SeedMax ECO-H70 138 Pints Mobile Steel Commercial Dehumidifier for Basements, Greenhouse Dehumidifier&Whole House - www.amazon.com...
------------------------------------------------------
We keep dehumidifiers going in our basement and both shops. This allows us to store cars, furniture, wood, or anything else we want in a safe environment. We have been replacing Home Depot Frigidaire models every 14 to 16 months. At this point, we moved up and so far this has been the quietest and most efficient dehumidifier we have owned.

I believe they build them deliberately to fail now. I have seen older dehumidifiers still running from the 80s also.... all the new Chinese ones today seem to go out within 2-3 years. And they use R410a refrigerant which basically makes them unserviceable in the U.S.

@@c.rutherfordthe old ones often have solid aluminium evaporator coils, and use R12 which is significantly lower pressure and uses mineral oil instead of POE oil that goes acidic with heat or moisture.

Bought a 3 year warrantee for $35 on a Frigidaire 12 years ago and have replaced 3 since then and have not had to pay anything out of pocket. They just ask you to send in a picture of the serial number and a cut power cord. I bought it from Best Buy and Frigidaire makes arrangements with them to supply a new one. Not the most efficient method but for $35 dollars and $215 for the unit I have had 12 years worth of service.

I have a dirt basement with 70% humidity at 70-degrees F. I have had excellent results with Frigidaire 70 pint dehumidifiers. It will bring the humidity down to 45-50%. I use a constant drain hose. I usually get about 6 years from them. As you probably know, they changed the spec on dehumidifiers back in 2019 and now units that were rated at 70 pints are rated at 50 and units that were 50 are now 35. My unit went bad this summer and I was looking at a commercial unit. I almost bought an Alorair but then found a used Frigidaire for $100 so I'm good again for a few years. The one thing that surprised me about commercial units is most aren't rated to last any longer than residential units. 5-6 years seems to be the life expectancy. Everyone I talk to also says to never buy a unit with a built-in pump. I'll be interested in how yours works long term as the price is about the same as the Alorair I looked at. The weird thing with the commercial units is they always rate the pints for saturation temperature. Like the one you got is 138 pints but that is at 90-degrees and 90% humidity. Down at 70-degrees where my basement temp is that unit is only around 65 pints.
@eosjoe565
@eosjoe565 2 года назад
I forgot to mention. Frigidaire stopped making the good 70-pint units like you and I have. While those units were rated as one of the best units available, their newer units get horrible reviews. It is very difficult these days to find a decent residential dehumidifier. 70-pint units are rare as most are now 50. Most are no name junk that won't last long at all and still cost close to $300. So $600-700 for a commercial unit is actually not bad.

I bought the Frigidaire 70 pint when they had a 5 year warranty. I received the third replacement unit just before the end of 5 years. So 3 units lifetimes in 5 years is about 20 months before the refrigerant leaks out. One went in about 2 years, the other two in just over one year. Frigidaire has now changed the warranty to one year instead of fixing their design. I bought a 3 year warranty for $50 on the last one and in two weeks they refunded my money and said it was an error, they don't do extended warranties on these units anymore. So if you want to try a Frigidaire, you have been warned.

I don't understand these comments that say they have a normal big box type dehumidifier, and they've been working for years. That's why I'm watching this video, to hopefully find one that lasts. I've had to get a new dehumidifier every 2 years, and lately, every 1 year for like the past 10 years. Luckily they are within warranty usually. I've tried Danby, Pelonis, Keystone, probably something else I'm forgetting. My Frigidaire's lasted the longest (and was the most expensive). It was just out of warranty, but the fine folks at Frigidaire still hooked me up with a new one. Well, that one went out, then they sent me a check for replacement. So luckily I haven't been out a lot, but I just want something that lasts. Gonna have to try something commercial I guess.
@cooloutac

what happens to them? I have a kesnos one I've been using for 4 years that still works good. I had a eurgreen one that stopped dehumidifying on me after 2 years but I only used it a couple months out of the year. The kesnos I use all year round maybe that helps, no idea. I also have a $1500 sanidry sedona in my basement I have had to replace 3 times within the 5 year warranty. So i'm over commercial dehumidifiers, the thing is overkill for my basement anyways. Sure it uses less electricity and doesn't run nearly as often. But it will take me 5 years to save my money back on it so whats the point? Commercial dehumidifers are good if you actually get water in y our basement on the regular. otherwise I don't think they are.
@szargos

@@cooloutac Great question, and I have no idea what happens to them. The last one I had, since I was compensated for it and told I could just toss it (by proper means with the city), I took halfway apart. Everything was rusted away in it. I assume this is the main issue. I would usually let them gravity drain out of a clear hose, and the hose always had rusty looking water tracks after a while. Like you, I ended up buying a unit probably well over my needs, an Aprilaire. 5 year warranty as well and I've had it probably about a year now. Currently no issues at all, I like it a lot, and definitely recommend them. Aluminum coils, so hopefully they will last a while. Only time will tell though.

@rogerf3622 Minisplits need to be cleaned of mold at least 2x/year if it’s in a humid environment unless you buy an extra dehumidifier for the room to keep the moisture down. Plus it’s recirculating the inside air, not taking in fresh outside air, so when you get mold buildup inside the units it’s pumping out the mold spores and taking it back in essentially concentrating the mold in the inside air making for poor inside air quality. It’s not the air filter that’s the problem it’s the mold buildup inside the unit. They may have dehumidifying capabilities but they build up mold regardless

I also had to replace the whole unit 3 times within the 5 year warranty. Honestly I find it to be overkill and way too loud. Yes it runs less often and uses less electricity. But am I really saving any money when you factor in the cost and maintenance? not at all. IMO Commercial dehumidifiers are for ducts or drying after water damage. I HATE when somebody does a video and then can't be bothered to answer questions!!!!!! Does this dehumidifier still work as you say it did when the video was made? Your Amazon link also shows a $399 unit with the same sounding features. Any idea what the differences are?

What a way to ask a question. I might venture to say I hate the way you asked this. I have 2 of these units and both are still working. One needs the controller board to be removed and reinsert about every 2 years to keep working. I know the original company stopped making them and my link is sent to another brand that is supposedly the same unit, just updated. I never purchased one of those because I have not needed to yet.

@@WorkshopAddict The question about whether it was still working has been hanging below for a while now. People need to know this is worth double the average price.

@@kodak_jack IF you look, I have answered that question about every 3 months. I have 1800 videos out. I do my best.
