We talked to Bill Kelliher about a guitar he once had stolen. Recorded in the Gibson bus at Rock am Ring 2014 gibson.com gibson gibsongermany gibsongermany
+Musta Krakish :'( boohoo. That is definitely an expensive guitar for someone to start out with, but a) it was clearly in good hands as he is now 1/4 of my favorite rock band nowadays and b) trying to learn on a crappy guitar is the worst. I would've probably bought my kid a little acoustic that I tried myself first, make sure the size is small enough that he could fit his hands around the neck, but yeah, nothing over $400. But then again, maybe his parents are rocket scientists or otherwise rich. Regardless it was a good investment though, wasn't it?
I was at that koncert in Odense Denmark. First time I heard Mastodon warming up with Hatesphere for The Haunted. Glad to hear that you guys got your guitars back. 🙌
That's why I'm so scared to gig with a real Gibson, might as well dress up a Chinese clone or Epiphone with 57s or whatever and keep the Gibson at home. I'd cry like a baby
+svfutbol20 I'd probably keep a guitar that was sentimental enough at home where I know it's safe, but I would *NEVER* tour without the instruments I used to make the record. That's saying a lot though cause they use like at least 10 guitars each when making their albums, but still, if it's sentimental enough to you to make you cry if you lose it then you should probably never take it out at all in the first place.
that guitar the Tobacco sunburst may have been mine I sold it at the same time in NY, funny i bought it while i was in military in Chicago for $250.00 ,it was incredible sounding, but it was heavy didnt like the weight , i dont even know what happened to it and who i sold it to or if i gave it to someone lol
my is guitar was a gibson black les paul custom 1969-1970.i bought it in 1984 for $600 played the hell out of it,broke the neck 2 x,fixed it properly and sold it. that would be a $5000-$8000 guitar right now, damn i miss it and my 1981 100 watt jcm 800 and 4x12 1960a. im stuck with 6 random les pauls ,all epiphones and a mesa boogie 5-50 but i love them.
Smackheads. I've have various stuff get jacked in cities with serious heroin issues. Some bands don't even do those cities. However, some famous musicians like Bill and Brent get their stuff back... it was sold cheap, likely a few times until in lands in the hands of someone who knows vintage gear and isn't a dick. Smackheads steal anything not bolted down.
Dope story reminds me of a similar story with Jerry Cantrell, someone stole his guitar that was given to him as a gift from fuckin Eddie Van Halen. In 2002 when he was making his masterpiece album Degradation trip 1&2 one of them got stolen from the studio and the literally 19 years later some AIC fans an collectors tracked it down, some kid had it and was trying to sell it and then one of the collectors was able to get it and give it back to Cantrell who I’m sure absolutely hooked up the dude for doing that. Similar stories for both bill and Jerry so it’s really cool they both got them back years later.
So know how you feel an ex of mine stole my guitar and sold it for drug money I thought I was going to cry I'll never get it back and it was my first guitar I bought
Getting a guitar stolen sucks, but consider yourself lucky that Gibson now give you guitars for free.. If one of the best guitar manufacturers around were giving me my own signature models for nothing,i really wouldn't be bothered about some old guitar I bought for 400 bucks..
