My story... (leaving Jehovah's Witnesses) 

So not only did you destroy your own life, but you also had your entire family join you. What you did was show your father and brother a glimpse of your sinful wild life, and now they want to partake in it also. They're going to follow in your footsteps. Not only did Satan destroy your life, but he also was able to get to your family members, through you. If I still had young children living at our home, and one of our grown children lived on their own, as a drug addict, or living a promiscuous sinful life. If he would have called me, I too would have done what your mother did. Being a mother myself, I too would have picked up my son's phone call. But I would never had permitted for him to live in our home and corrupt the rest of my children. Within a couple of years, if not sooner, your parents will be divorced and your brother will be on drugs, or in prison. Because now, they're not going to have God's scripture, to live by. Everything is going to be permissible in their lives. Exactly like it is in your life! Are you proud of yourself?

I’m still stuck in the religion, I feel so trapped because my parents keep making me feel like crap when I say I don’t want to study. They don’t care about their children, they just care how they look in the congregations eyes. Me and another friend are drowning right now.

Hi Cam, my husband and I left after 36 years of being in that organization. We have 4 born in adult children and their mates. They are fully shunning us but we are being a support for any that have left. We are so happy for you and your family and the work your father is doing to expose the abuses in the organization especially in New Zealand. Keep up the good work!

I was brought up in that cult too, and it caused me to be an atheist for over 8 years. It took a lot for me to finally find enough proof to believe in God, and later find out it was Jesus. That was Jesus comforting you in the shower. God bless you in Jesus' name

I can attest to the fact that you guys were indeed the dream JW family back then… But oh MAAAN it makes my heart SO incredibly happy that you are out, and your family followed and you have found that real peace & happiness!! My husband and I officially and publicly disassociated 3.5 years ago too, after years of doubt, fear, and anger over the organisation… It was the best decision of our lives and we have never doubted or regretted a moment since leaving. What a blessing to hear from you, my brother! I really saw Jesus and what he had done , and was disfellowshipped in 1974. There were 14 of us who came out together, so I never went through the rejection of my family. However, I lost some very close friends in the process, and the pain is real. Thank you for sharing.

My family left but my immediate older brother continued with them but about 3 years before he died Jesus saved him and he died a happy child of God. God is good. God bless you brother for sharing.

I can't believe a religious group can do this to families. Thanks bro for this video. I'm so happy for you and your family. I left organization little over year ago and this freedom and joy are overwhelming what I feel right now. I find new spiritual home from free church. I even got baptized again last november. I'm almost 60 years old and raised and born in JW family. And like you parents my parents also met first time in my mother's door when my father went there preaching. My mother was a witness when she died but father disfellowshipped before I was born. I did not wait for the entire video to finish when I replied earlier. Now I see that you are putting your trust in God. I have stopped going to church since the pandemic, but hopefully I will find a small church that follows and teaches what the Bible says. I am glad for you and your family. Wow Cam this is such an amazing story. I’m so happy you’ve got your family! So hey strange thing, when I myself was in my darkest hour my spouse was in & I was planning my suicide I was in prayer & I had an angel or Jesus come to comfort me. It was a feeling/presence I’d never experienced before & didn’t want it to end. But from that moment onward my depression was lifted and I knew I was on the right path. The only thing is I wish everyone going thru the waking process was fortunate enough to receive that. I sometimes feel a lil guilty in a way & reluctantly to share something so profound & meaningful

Thank you making this video and raising awareness. I read a study that showed the effects of shunning on the brain. Its so harmful that the hippocampus actually physically shrinks causing extreme mental illness, aggression and suicidal thoughts. I'm so sorry younwent through this

Thanks for posting this. I am about to get disfellowshipped. I made an appeal and the appeal hearing with the new committee is tomorrow, but I've heard appeals are rarely successful so I'm not very hopeful. I was raised a witness and my dad is an elder. Very similar situation to you in being sort of a 'model' family. I'm preparing myself mentally for what is to come but don't think I can ever really understand until it actually happens. For those wondering, even if you are 'repentant' and tell the elders you want to change your ways, you can still get disfellowshipped. This was the case for me as I was actually the one who went to the elders to confess. They still disfellowshipped me. This has made me very skeptical of the religion and now I'm not sure what to believe anymore. It's been about 2 weeks since the original hearing where I was disfellowshipped. I have not been able to focus or concentrate on anything over this time period as my life as I know it is quite literally hanging in the balance. It's funny to me when I talk to non-jws. They are always saying 'there's no way your own parents will actually stop talking to you'. I have to look them dead in the eyes and tell them that I know for a fact my family will not talk to me as soon as they find out the news. Pretty scary when you think about it.

Thank you Cam for your story and you're sharing. I'm not a witness but I have a friend who is and I thought I would send this to her. I'm sorry for everything you went through but if you hadn't of experienced that, you would not be where you are now. My Hope for you is that you continue to see that God is the way the truth and the life and that you cannot get to him except through his son Jesus Christ who died for our sins. As far as going to church. I like the fellowship part and the worship part and I believe it's a good thing as long as it's a non-denominational church that teaches from the Bible and not just says things to make people feel good so you will come back. I pray for discernment so that I can see the difference in these pastors and I finally found a great church. Looking forward to your book and thank you for caring. Thankyou for sharing your story. It brought me to tears. I’m 3rd generation -I left in my early 20’s (1999) we didn’t have the internet like we do now. There was no support and I went through a very similar journey. It still effects who I am today. But I agree our experiences we were raised in gives us a special understanding of people, I have great empathy for people that I ever had before. I look forward to your book and it’s inspiring me to write mine. It sounds like you have a solid family. My story with my family isn’t so nice. To this day my dad and his side of the family refuse to talk to me. Even at my baby brothers funeral Last year. So sad…he doesn’t know me or any of my children. It’s such a loss. The organization is not loving unless you follow the order. Everything has conditions- which isn’t Christlike at all. Keep spreading your truth!

I wanted to continue. Since I faded my two sisters still speak to me, but they still invite me to special talks and other things. I will never go back. How I faded is when my mother changed congregation and just did not go to the new congregation. That way no one was looking for me. I wanted to leave even before than and this gave me the opportunity to do so. I am so glad for you and your family. I faded over 35 years ago. I am 59 now. I started viewing these exjw videos on youtube about 8 months ago. I have learned about all of this information concerning this organization and the many changes taking place. Growing up in the religion I always had doubts.

Sixty years ago when I was in my first year of university, in a first year Sociology class I remember the professor telling us that shunning is the most hurtful, destructive action that can be taken against another person short of murder and often has the same effect. He also explained that so-called primitive tribes used that as the ultimate punishment - to expel someone from the tribe often deprived people of foodand shelter and all the other basics of life. If that action isn't treated in the courts as attempted murder, our so-called modern education system hasn't learned much.

I’m sitting here at 5 AM in the morning before work gripped by your story. I was disfellowshipped in 2018 and I tried to come back a few times because of missing my family and community as well and 2020 saved my life. After all the meetings stopped due to Covid, I started investigating, and I thought I would be struck by lightning, but completely had a panic attack finding out about all the pedophilia and how it is worse than we could ever now. Then I found out about my very own congregation and I decided against coming back. It was the best decision of my life And I agree, I feel like one of the lucky ones. I lead a quiet life with a small circle of good friends. I used to miss my family and friends a lot but your brain rewires. Living a double life is something I never wanted to do and so I chose myself. I was the pioneer and the poster child for a Jehovah’s Witness as well but looking back it all sounds so strange to me and I can see how keeping Jehovah’s Witnesses so busy prevent them from waking up. My family is very small right now, so the loss is not that bad but my life has never felt this great. I’m no longer in fear of anything, no doom and gloom, I have lost the judgmental streak that I always had and it feels wonderful to make friends and not have to talk about what religion we are in and try to informal witness to everyone you meet. I used to think I was so lucky to have the truth out of all the people in the world, I was chosen, but now I feel the complete opposite. Thank you for your story. You have a new subscriber and I’m so happy that all of your suicide attempts failed. I’m so happy that your family will be together again and start living the best life ever.

I'm happy for you. Still continue to read and study. I was told if I were to keep wearing my small stud nose ring, I couldn't comment at the meetings. I was open and told the elders I did something wrong, now I'm getting shunned. Oh well, life goes on. I'm glad I'm not the only one feeling this way. Thank you.

I left the Mormon church at 46. I think that leaving your church is harder, but many of the things you talk about are true of Mormonism as well. I could so relate to how these religions actually separate families. I'm glad that you're family is finally finding their way out too.

would love for you to pray and ask the Lord to reveal himself to you. He loves you unconditionally, and you do not need an organization to tell you the best way to follow him. It's completely all about what he's done for you when he died at the cross you don't have to earn your salvation. GET to know your maker who loves you so so so so much. he loved you first, and there is nothing you'll ever do that will make him love you any less or any more than he already does. I believe that at your worst, it was the hand of God that touched you my friend.

One cousin already was ex- communicated years ago for something silly. Thank God that she now knows Christ to be God and Saviour of mankind, and believes in the heavenly home that Christ has promised to prepare for all of His commandment-keeping children who are kept faithful to Him by His grace, unto His soon imminent return. By God's grace praying for you. Your transparency is refreshing and touching. God does love you, oh so very tenderly. Don't know you but do love you too! The Bible does teach religion and defines it clearly, however. It is obviously different from the twisted portrayal presented of it by religious groups which are themselves deceived by the enemy of Truth. By God's grace we must love and pray for them. God is not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. So thankful that He includes me in that "all"! PTL for your new found faith in Christ (the Word - John 1:1-4,14; Rev 19:13). Faith without works of obedience to Christ the Word/Truth who saves us from sin which is disobedience of the law (1John 3:4) that govern His eternal kingdom, of course, is dead. So true! No one should judge others by assigning either motive to their conduct or eternal destiny to them. Judgment belongs only to our one and only true and living righteous God. That is actually an integral part of biblical religion, too! Thanking God for your belief in and confession of Him as well as for His continued healing of your mind! May each of you know His direction, richest blessings and divine peace always.

The first detail I noticed was : the slightly British style speech (my home is America--USA--Texas) . I suspected Australian right away but I saw New Zealand in the comments. Jesus is the same (yesterday, today, and forever and also from continent to continent) but cultural backgrounds add a distinctive flavor to the communications. I was never involved with J.W.'s here in the states but I definitely related to your struggle with family and people in the cult (my cult involvement was with The Way International). Here is the story I felt might benefit some that are enjoying your U-Tube site. (It relates to following context). A Russian group of Bible translators were doing a first draft translation from a U.S. version of the Bible into Russian. (unusual since the version was going from English to Russian without attention to Hebrew or Greek). The Russian translator was intimately familiar with American idioms. While ignoring context, she got to the verse in John: the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak. Knowing the idiom that "spirits" refer to alcohol, she translated it : the vodka was strong,but the meat was rancid. [ How does this relate to your story?
