My Sunderland Story | Luke O'Nien 

What an absolute gent, smiled all the way through watching that, I could honestly listen to him talk all night. He completely gets the club, the fans, everything, don’t care what anyone says, club legend

I live in North Carolina. I fell in love with Sunderland the city and Sunderland AFC like many Americans, watching the show on Netflix. O'Nien is my favorite player because he enjoys playing every minute like a kid. I respect that. Cheers to all the lads and supporters of this great club and city.

Hello, I'm a Sunderland fan from Portugal (and FC Porto fan) and I have a huge respect from Luke O'Nien. He got so much heart and soul, he for me represents Sunderland. In the documentary Sunderland Til I Die he said that one of his dreams was to play on the Premier League and I hope that his dream come true and he play there with Sunderland. Even if Sunderland could not get the playoffs and have a chance this Season to get back to the Premier, I sincerely hope that Next Season you return to the place where you belong. I love this club. After all of the mercanaries and charletons we have had over the past years it's refreshing to see a lad who buys into what it is all about.

A one off a credit to himself and the club. What’s forgotten though is from just being viewed as a grafter who gives his all, he’s turned into a very good all round player, all achieved through his own determination on the training ground to make himself better.

What a guy. Me and the family used to actually get tickets to the players lounge through Luke. We used to talk away to him and he was so enthusiastic to speak to, brilliant lad. Covid put a stop to that unfortunately but we'll never forget the memories.

Luke rekindled my passion for the club, and is why I'm back watching the lads at the stadium

I was in a taxi in Westminster and the driver started talking about football and said son had just got into the first team at Watford. I said Luke O’Nien and he was shocked I knew who he was talking about. I add a caveat I don’t know if he just said yes when I said Luke but as a Watford fan I knew he had just got into first team. A victim at the time of Watford looking to their Udinese and Granada scouting set up to miss Luke and Britt Assombalonga already under their noses busting a gut to get recognised. If that was your Dad Luke - you have done well since that short taxi ride in Jan 2014.

He's a Lee Cattermol, gives his heart and soul for our club, fans favourite that's for sure,

Its great to hear stories like this from players, especially the ones who have to work their way up from lower leagues and still respectful of the clubs that have helped them on their journey. My fav Sunderland player, my kids know who he is, just have to say to them you know Luke 09 who made that quality tackle late on when we went to Wembley and they like yeah he was brilliant. Luke bleeds red and white and a pleasure to have a player and legend like him playing for us. Hopefully he plays for us till he retires in many years time and then becomes a coach for us.
