Thanks very much for the very thorough walk-through of the features of this unit. Nice to see it in action in a video rather than simply looking at the pics on Tascam's site. I'm another of the increasingly rare physical disc owners, with around 3000 CDs collected since 1987!
Thx Joe for a good common sense review of this product. I just got one as I am now getting into recording CDs and just keeping me occupied in these horrific times of COVID. At 69, and now retired, getting back into My Music which I have always enjoyed from childhood, and as a garage band drummer 50 years ago, I have returned to playing drums (if you can call it that), to My Music. I sent up a Basement Sound system with new speakers (1 pair of Elac Debut 6.2 Bookshelfs and 1 pair of Fluance Signature Series Surround HiFi Bookshelf speakers, a new Denon DRA 800H Receiver, a new AT LP120XBTUSB TT, added this Tascam unit and a Teac AD850. ). I have not done too much of recording CDs yet, but I will tell you , i hooked up the Tascam to the Denon Receiver using a digital cable ..... The Cds are a little bit clearer and seems more dynamic vs a RCA cord connection. Added benefit is that frees up an audio input on the Denon by using the digital input connection. Be well all.
Hi I’ve had my CD-RW900 Mk11 for many years now... It’s fantastic... however this is my third of these machines. I had the first one delivered, I bolted it in the rack that I use for my recorders, it’s 19” rack mount, wired it into my mixer Turned it on BIG BANG, BIGGER FLASH and all the power went off in my studio! So I called my supplier, they offered to collect it but I said I’d drive the 150 miles to exchange it. Got back to the studio same thing, BANG, FLASH, all power off. Called my supplier again told them the problem and they said they’d call me back in 10min. 10min later they called back and said that they had tried 2 more and they both blew the mains. They sent back the whole pallet to Tascam, I sent mine back to the suppliers and they arranged for Tascam to send me one overnight by Motorcycle Courier. This had been tested by Tascam, and works fine. It’s wonderful.
Just got mine today and am REALLY excited. I'll probably be sending you questions. I also used to tape a lot of my 3000 LPs and 45s on cassette tapes back in the 80's and 90's!
Great video. I picked up the previous model CD-RW900 for $60. I agree on the ADC and DAC. Great quality and I can burn discs from my DAT tapes that are recorded at 48K sample rate. I spent quite a while looking for a dedicated CD player and came across the 900. DVD players will play CDs, but that feature is secondary. DVD players are designed around DVDs so they get the focus. I was not happy with any DVD player I tried for CD playback. I found that recording to CD-RWs first and then duplicating them to CD-Rs works very well. I let the TASCAM do the heavy lifting and then let the computer do a bit copying. I saved on CD-R coaster making that way and can erase the CD-RW and start again. I am working on testing the max write erase thresholds on CD-RWs. Never had a situation that I could test that limit till now. Thanks for the video.
It's indeed an nice device to have. I don't have experience with playback only recording. For playback there was a separate device (a Denon multi (CD/DVD/USB) player. It was only connected for recording and it was great for it, I didn't have any problems with recording. If there was an error it was found in the first stage, replacing the disk is then easy. There are indeed no balanced in/outputs, I didn't think it's a big problem. Most of the time is the distance between the mixer and recorder short enough to be able to use unbalanced (with decent cable routing). Also if there were balanced in/outputs there was a reasonably chance that they were the only possible connections available.
Somewhere there is s person making a video with the ( highjack) model. I love this vids of audio stuff. I use a Yamaha Natural sound Silver DVD player as my CD player.looks and sounds great.
Yes. I have both. One thing. Im still trying to figure out how to boost the volume onto the cd before burning. It seems that from the DP24SD, you have to crank it. I could barely hear the cd after burning it when I played the cd In my vehicle
I'm a dummies on this..I need a solid cd player for my elvis tribute show ..I use professional tracks that I sing too. My question is how do I play my cd with tracks already on it. So that will burn onto a blank disc ?
I have a PHILIPS DCC900 which needs recapping as it won't play analogue tapes or the Digital Compact Cassettes that it is supposed to play there is no one in my area that recaps electronic equipment.
Hey Joe! Would you say a Tascam CD-RW900SX is an ok replacement/option for this? I need to gift a friend but I can't find anymore mkIIs :( I tried to give him mine but he was too ashamed to take it
Joe, just got this unit . Excellent quality is evident right out of the box. I haven't recorded any material yet. But one immediate observation is the CD player. It is very very good. I have John Melloncamp CD - "Cuttin Heads" that has not played properly on at least 3 different players, but playing on the Tascam, it exhibitted no skips that were present in the other plays. One question, how would you hook up a turntable to this unit? Y Audio Technica LP120BTUSB has a built in phono amp and can be switched to line out or phono outputs. I have it connected to my Denon Dra -800H AVR via the phono in connection . Correct me if I'm wrong, but i presume I would connect the TT to the Tascam via line in jack, and switch the TT to line which e tails the TT to use its own built in phono amp. Thx for your or any posters advice. Happy Music listening to all. A nice pleasure so far left "untouched " by all this Madness
Brasero writes CD TEXT info automatically - I love that feature and my Mom's Car Stereo displays CD TEXT: Album and Song, no Artist though. As I said in 1 of your Audio/Video Videos, I love me some flashing lights in my Stereo Caddy/Cabinet. I'm so used to recording on Tape (from a young age), all I ever have is Recorded on Tape, if I don't like what I did - Rewind and Record/Cue.
Joe, got one of these suckers. The sound is great connected to my Denon DRA-800H Receiver. I have it connected via digital optical cable ( I presume that's called Toslink), an awesome sound. I do notice that there is slight vibration when I engage recording mode. In other words, you can feel the motor running. Is that normal?
Hey Joe, excuse the Hendrix Pun, very good walk through. Is there a Teac model equivalent similar to the Teac AD850 is equivalent to the Tascam model ? Tascam is the Teac Pro line. I have the Teac AD850 which records to USB OR Cassette tapes from CDs , cassettes, or other Line in inputs. This unit has piqued my interest to record various music sources as an ipcoming retirement hobby.
It's been a long time since you made this beautiful clip. However, please tell me how to copy an identical CD, with all the tracks. The source is a very good CD Player and I use a coaxial cable. But he's copying my CD on a single track. How do I get my tracks to appear as they are on the original CD? Thanks!
hi maby im doing something wrong i have the the same but it looks like the cd rec is not reciever the tone or the bass of my recievers you only here the musis in the earphone of the recorder but when i adjust the tone or bass its doest capture it maby you know something i dont know thank s
@@markaguzmanartist630 EQ's usually go on the tape loop. The line out is fed into the EQ and then you plug tape decks or other recording devices into it. You can switch the EQ in or out of the audio path. You can have it where you can hear the EQ but not record it or both or none. Take some time and do a little research... Be happy with recording flat for now. There's really no reason to record EQ'd audio to a CD unless something is wrong with it anyway. :)
I recorded all my songs and finalized. I didn't text any of the songs. Can I still put text to label each song AFTER I finalized or do I have to text label each song before I finalize?
By the way - this unit has a bit of a built in leveler and my songs sound amazing after it records them! I got the last one in Canada! Well, in the Canadian music stores they had.
This one does pitch too. It's in the menu and there's a button on the remote for it. They kinda buried it so I guess that's why they fixed it with the 901. :)
@@EzeeLinux it also looks like they added the auto cue, auto ready, & call buttons as well and you still need the manual when setting up especially for the audio levels and sync levels
The cd tray doesn't pop out all the way, where a section of the cd isn't under the player. I don't like the cd slot machines. They leave a roll in line mark on the play side of the cd that you can't remove. I prefer minidiscs to record on!
I bought one recently and love it I had a RU4 until the white lazer went out that burns the cd disc I replaced it with this model and I burn my cdrs with it great cd buner.
It's a quick and dirty way to produce a physical disc. It could be useful for home recording musicians, radio production houses, demo recording studios... The list goes on and on. I just think it's fun. :)
Audio CD's are still being used, also in professional settings. Here in The Netherlands it's still used in churches and funeral homes. It's an easy way to make a recording which a member or family can take or send to their home and listen to. The modern alternative like a streaming service is limited to the bandwidth of that service, I personally like listening to a CD recording more than a stream (which has most of the time a limited bitrate). The alternative like a USB stick isn't used that much, most of the time because an empty CD is cheaper than an USB stick.
I have an older model that I bought inexpensively used. I use it to transfer my LPs to digital with CD-RWs. A Zoom recorder or some audio interface may be easier but more expensive. I erase the CD-RW to use again, but I could just as easily record to CD-Rs and keep them I suppose.
