I think this does a great job of highlighting the importance of being independent, critical thinkers and not simply being passive consumers of information.
Thanks Dr. P. That was a great sanity check for me. My wife and I are both 3rd years and we've been tossing similar ideas around. What bugs me is how religious everyone is getting about this. If you question ANYTHING, many colleagues will treat you like some kind of anti-science heretic.
Love the vid Doc! I completely agree. I definitely think everyone should be thinking more critically about the situation at hand and not just mindlessly accepting the information that they hear from the mainstream media. A lot of it does more harm than good.
AMEN!!! This is so spot on. To add, I think shutting down people and forcing people to stay home also makes the chances of being susceptible to illness as their generally more lethargic, combined with stress of how they will survive financially and being totally freaked out from all the fear mongering that has been going around!
Thanks for the thoughts Doc. The politicization of all this is mind numbing. It's nice to hear some healthy skepticism and avoidance of extreme biases/speculations.
“This shit does not make any sense”. Took the words right out of my mouth..I work in healthcare so wear a mask when around patients..had emergency gall bladder removal..great surgeons. Your video was outstanding on Gallbladder removal... was in hospital for. 2 nights..back to work now...so no problems with covid....the unevenness of what the government has ordered is insane...poor business owners snd their employees..just wear and mask when you work...watch out for coughs, droplets move way if someone spit out droplets.the consequences of closing business snd schools snd the financial, mental health detriments equal if not are worse then the virus itself especially in younger health people...no it is now not the right thing to do to keep businesses snd school’s shut down
I'M SO GLAD YOU ARE BACK! I am currently working towards going into medical school. I work at a hospital in the ER, and I try to have conversations with some of the doctors I look up to about what is going on because I have read so much into the virus that I don't understand a HUGE portion of it. Even some of our physicians don't have all of the answers for the virus. It's so frustrating.
Well said Dr. Parker, it's very important to be brave enough to say we do not know without fear of hurting our image. Humility can go a far way, especially in medicine.
I’m honestly just concerned that we live in a government that undermines science. It used to be that medicine would still be respected though (which is weird since they go hand in hand), but now we’re starting to undermine what medical science. I really just think that medical care and public health should not be politicized, and we should all work together to prioritize finding solutions rather than divide ourselves at every choice. The hydroxychloroquine opinion was based on a study on the SARS virus and its surface proteins, where the medication successfully inhibited the virus from entering cells. People then presumed that the same would happen w Covid, since genetic testing showed that the virus had the same surface proteins. The fact that the president starting to endorse its use on that already had people against the drug for no reason than own bias. When results showed that there might be better options, the president did not modify his opinion based on novel evidence, and just stayed w hydroxychloroquine. Truth of the matter, is that we didn’t know much on how to tackle the virus, so people acted on the knowledge that was available at the time. We don’t know everything about the virus now, but we know more than we did those days; therefore, we should act on what we know now and evolve from past knowledge. We need to stop holding ourselves back and dividing every time something new comes, and go with what evidence we do have (until more evidence is presented)
W that said, big fan of your channel and content. You’re an inspiration. I’m glad to see you back. Send prayers, vibes or whatever to help w me taking step on February. Would not have gotten this far without people like you being an inspiration
hooligan; keep in mind, I did not say the president alone. I also pointed out that people who opposed trump immediately opposed hydroxychloroquine just by trump started to endorse it, which was wrong. Both sides are at fault. All conclusions I’ve reached have been through my own research of scholarly articles. If you disagree that is fine, I’m not claiming to be perfect. Just sharing my thoughts on an open forum. I wish you the best :)
IJscorp 1 I agree that both sides are at fault. However, there are studies suggesting that hcl is effective and others suggesting it is not. It’s hard to blame the president for knowing which one it is when even your advisers are split.
Can you do a video on how to choose electives in med school if you still don’t know what specialty to go into? Perhaps more broadly, how to choose a medical specialty as well for those who are significantly struggling to narrow it down.
It's so stressful, I had to stop watching the news. I am a senior Bio major and they have messed up my courses, that needed to be field work and hands on (labs), and made them completely online. Just found your channel today love it!
Long tiiiime no seeeeeeeee doc ! So good to hqve you back. " This s*** doesn't make any sense " 😂 excactly my thoughts ! I am social distancing on a greek god level since March and 4 months after i am exhausted ! At this point i feel that we should declare a global collective clinical depression tbh xD
@@nGUNNARp I don't think that's the case in this political climate. But, I suppose we'll see for sure after the election. If coronavirus disappears after Biden wins, we will have a better idea.
Goddamn smart boi right here. Sharing some good thinking here Doc, certainly the kind of thinking more should be engaging in rather than all of the politicising bs that’s going on.
I'm a RT and like you the last couple weeks I have been saying this doesn't make sense how people are positive without symptoms and then others sick for weeks and then pass away! Talking with others I have been saying it's like it's two viruses, which are world's different. I would guess their is something different with the virus with those who get super sick and those that don't, obviously something is different some place either in people or the virus. Just a weird thing but the benefit to this, I think it gives us experience with a pandemic which isn't overly lethal. It's good practice for something that could be extremely scary in the future, just food for thought
@@GarryBurgess Most people, not just the rich, have health insurance. There's a reason people come from all over the world to get treatment. The long wait time are too much for people who need help in socialized countries. There's also a reason that most modern medicines have come out of the USA
In order to be a Trauma surgeon what class did you major in college??? Also did you major in psychology?? Please answer my question, I’m a junior in high school and I’m in a bit stuck with this :/
What makes you say that internal med docs and surgeons are capable of making a decision based on the patient as a whole, but infectious disease doctors are not capable of it? What's stopping a good ID epidemiologist from making these cost benefit analysis?
I hope we can get back to our normal lives as soon as possible. Everyone wants to see your smile🙂 You look so tired. Please take care of yourself and drive safely!! Summer in Japan is very hot and humid though I have to wear a mask 🥵😫
I am a doctor was doing covid testing one of my colleagues turned out to be positive he was apparently working in ICU. Then 2 cardiac patients turned out to be positive. He was shifted to covid ward and recovered after 2 weeks.
Heeeey , OMG GOOD TO SEE YOU 😍😍😍 I'm 6 months from graduating med school and you've been my inspiration , hope to meet you one day Sir 😊 you have a great day 🖤
Hi Doctor parker, do you think this SARS-Cov2 novel coronavirus has/ could have multiple pathophysiology such as other pathogens e.g. Herpes virus or TB. Could it be that there is only one virus but it might only be symptomatic if it enters certain pathway ?
A bit of a “rambling” commentary but I think it highlights pretty well what a lot of people are thinking. Nobody really understands exactly what is happening in the world today. From a medical perspective it isn’t really as bad as the “powers that be” would have us believe. From an economic and societal perspective, at least in my opinion, most of this panic has been orchestrated and manufactured to achieve a desired goal. What is that goal? Figure that out and then you might be closer to understanding the bigger picture.
Actually I was preparing to enter the medical school but it's been a week I feel I won't be happy in medical shool &I'll regret it later cause people around me keep saying it's hard &you can't make family 🙄
All the sense I can make is wearing a mask outside, social distancing, strict hygiène, staying home most of the time. I'm French, we had the mask battle from they are useless to it's mandatory to look one, plus the rage with Pr.Raoult.
hey, just found your channel. I’m a college student and I’m really discouraged right now. I can’t seem to keep myself motivated, and I have a 1.6 gpa. I saw an old video of yours from 2 years ago, and you ?used? to have a study course link but not sure if you do that anymore. Anyways, if you have any advice/suggestions or anywhere I can get help from, I would appreciate it IMMENSELY. thanks Dr. Parker. You’re cool.
