I agree wholeheartedly with your opinion on this situation. Social media and the media in it’s entirety is just sick in so many ways. Especially with the recent events of this year, the ignorance of many people have come to light. It’s time to log out of the media and log into reality, because it’s getting ridiculous.

Another example to where people need to understand celebrities are normal people and being this heartless and insensitive to this woman tragic accident. Overall I’m going to miss her literary one of my favorites from the show

I noticed that some people were unaware that it would be incredibly dangerous for the divers to continue overnight, risking their lives as well. It was sad to see people automatically assume that they weren't trying hard to look for her or making it about race by saying they would search in the night for her if she was white. It was disappointing to see people make those assumptions without looking at the full picture. I even saw one girl say "So what, they should still look for her in the dark! It's their job, who cares if they get hurt!" which is disgusting, as the divers are volunteers and are doing their best.

Imagine being a cast member and hearing people say that your life is cursed due to the fact that you starred on a certain TV show. Please have empathy. You have no idea how badly stuff like that can mess with peoples heads.

The worst part is the news media showing footage of her court case and arrest photos. Society has lost respect and sensitivity for the sanctity of life from the unborn all the way to the elderly (via COVID commentary)...It is fair, however, to point out the number of cast members who’ve had a tragic and early demise.

I’ve been a fan of Naya Rivera since I was 6 years old and I’m 16 now. She was one of my favorite actors on Glee. I made a build-a-Bear years ago and named it Santana after Naya’s character on Glee. When my parents told me the news about her disappearance I was so sad. I really hope they find her.

This is the first I'm hearing about this, so thank you for explaining what happened. It's super concerning that people take other people's deaths and turn it into a punchline. I don't use twitter a lot, but I see similar stuff on IG. I think maybe the emotional disconnect because of screens might be part of the cause. Since people have a whole identity they perform online, which may or may not reflect their actual life, it just causes them to think that there's no consequences to their behavior. I think people are kinda self-absorbed and think about what they need to post to get more likes/retweets/shares/etc. So if they see a trend in posts they'll jump on it without a lot of critical thinking because it must be okay to do it if lots of other people are. I'm not saying people are shallow or stupid, but I do think that there needs to be more thought than "what'll get me likes" when posting on social media, because following trends can be pretty toxic and cause harm to those who are affected by the tragic news stories.

I completely agree with everything you were saying. It does seem like people have become desensitized - I can’t even believe the clip of the girl dancing- the tone is off, that’s beyond cringe. Of course bring attention to these issues, but - if someone is dead or presumed to be dead - respect that - don’t dance for a trend or make jokes, or call them a character they played, or make associations to things or people that are really just irrelevant to the issue at hand- it’s honestly sickening. These are real people. It’s like people have become so insensitive or numb they don’t value human life

I know this is an over year old video but when people bring up the Glee curse it's very annoying and disrespectful . For one thing Glee has a large cast and secondly that lake has a history of deaths and disappearances Naya was the 11th (I believe?) person to go missing

The problem of people being so ruthless on internet and not just about Naya Rivera's disappearence but also people "joking" about everything they think it's funny without looking back on them. Twitter and any other social media became a platform where people desperately try to bring others down during an argumentation (but that is another story) Not to mention people typing R. I. P Naya Rivera and then putting a crying emoji next to it seems to me like they just tweeted it or posted it in order to put something on the table.... Internet became a place where people can bring out their true colors... and those colors are just dark as hell. Also, whenever they joke about serious issues, they all behind "it is called dark humor" or "this is how we cope about serious issues" makes it even more tragic.... I guess people are so unhappy that they cannot understand the importance of a tragedy since their life seems to go downfall....

Seeing this woman's presence on tv and pop culture in general has had a huge impact on my life. But seeing that there is a search party looking for her right now is devastating. Excuse me, a search party that fucking QUIT looking for her during the most crucial hours of rescue. Anything happening to Naya or her son has my insides positively shaking. Absolutely couldn't agree more. Some people will use any opportunity to turn a public death or tragedy into a trendy meme. Like no, how insensitive and tone deaf do they have to be? I've also become very annoyed at how people have been making Breonna Taylor a meme. Yes, bring awareness to her story and encourage people to help arrest those who did kill her, but don't use it at the end of your snarky tweet or status. That's gross and unhelpful. And it hurts me that this is happening with Naya Rivera now too. I hope she is found alive and reunites with her family. I can't imagine what Josey is going through right now. They stopped searching at night because even with a good flashlight it’s really hard to see right in front of your face in the lake with all of the debris and murkiness from the mud (I’m not trying to be rude or argue, I’m only letting you know. There are also bobcats and other dangerous animals in the area. Bobcats are nocturnal). The thing I’m tired of is all of the conspiracy theories about what happened. This is tragic though. I’m devastated by this.

I agree with everything except there is a reason why you don't do night rescue/recovery efforts for people who are thought to have drowned. The visibility in the water is low/none and it is hard for divers to communicate with the team on the boats. It is just too dangerous.
