My thoughts on JW Broadcasting 39 - February 2018 (with Robert Ciranko) 

Only 12 minutes in, and I am already getting irritated. Tomorrow will be the first convention in 30 years, I will not attend. I hate that my Wife and Family will be there without my presence. But I just simply can not sit through another 8 or so hours, clapping like a Seal and laughing at unfunny jokes to break up the monotonous silence.

I didn’t like how he was treating these 2 young boys like baptised Jehovah Witnesses, it sickens me how this organisation condemns babies getting baptised but an 8 to 10 year old is ok for making a huge decision like getting baptised. I don’t see the difference between a baby and a 10 year old getting baptised, they are still a child and more than likely the poor child is forced into getting baptised by their parents then when they get disfellowship it’s somehow their fault. It’s a very controlling organisation and I for one will never been stepping into a Kingdom Hall ever again.

"How do you spend your Saturday Mornings?" I got work.

The first segment about cart witnessing in National Parks caused a smile. When my husband and I visited Maui on a cruise from Australia last year we hired a car and drove up to the top of the dormant volcano, Mt Haleakala. I'm not sure that the landscape there could be considered idyllic - more like being on Mars really, but there, at the top were a couple of JW's with their cart (and no sign of anyone showing any interest in them). We had a giggle as no doubt, they had recorded time from the bottom of the mountain, an hour (or more) away.

Cant wait for march edition. My family are jehovah witnesses and im 14. My parents are divorced so i can chose to live primarily woth my atheist dad instead of my mom, but im scared my family will hate me. My sister already knows im "wavering in the faith" and she is 13 and already baptized. It scares me how little she knows about the religion she just devoted her life to. My mother once told my sister she wouldn't see her much if she chose not to be JW, becaise my sister was asking questions. Today at dinner my mom was talking about how jehovah doesnt conjure only demons so i said that she said that conjure means to bring up and thats exactly jehovah supposedly does. Then she yelled at me, i hate this house. Please make a segment about the whiteboard propaganda that they show to me to help with the embarrassment of inviting kids in my school to the memorial by coming to their houses. What are your thoughts on what i should do. Id subscribe but my mom searches my phone.

"We don't own our children; Jehovah does." Sounds to me like Moloch the god of child sacrifice.... That sent a real chill down the spine.... That mother sounded as cold as I could ever imagine.... Like a zombie or a person in some kind of trance. This is the same woman who would NEVER speak to her son again if he were to come to you and say that he found out some things that made it impossible for him to believe in watchtower...... Lloyd is so right.... The reason we protest and expose Watchtower with such enthusiasm is because our families have been taken from us by Watchtower decree!

It's so sad that certain phrases roll off the tongues of theses children so easily, clear evidence of the programming of young minds.

Love how they took the famous rock illustration usually meant to show that you can have an enjoyable self actualizing life and inverted it to tell you there isn't room for self development. The actual illustration talks about putting the big rocks in first, then pebbles, then sand, then water, showing there is always time to do things that make you happy if you realize the value of even small amounts of time to pursue these things. Like working on a short story while riding the bus, getting a walk in during a break at work, or making a sketch while waiting for food at a restaurant. That is the real intent and value of that illustration. They totally subverted it.

Omg!!! How do you do it! I can barely stay tuned! It’s mind numbing. How did we buy such bull. Dumbing down to their uneducated zombie walkers.

Lloyd, the point you made regarding the children's comments being rehearsed were spot on as to what is like to be in an organization part, as it was called. I was in a circuit assembly part in the late 1980's as a "young one". During rehearsals, we were told to speak as ourselves and from the heart. As a kid growing up in California, I spoke as I would normally do and used the phrase "you guys", referring to a group of peers. I was swiftly counseled by the District Overseer that "folks" would be more appropriate. No kid in California in the 80's said the word "folks". So much for a "young ones" heartfelt perspective. The level of micromanagement is staggering. Watching this for me was like watching a movie of every disfunctional aspect of my youth.

Watching the parts about 'making sure of the important things' and managing your time is bringing up a little anger. As a single mom, I was always overwhelmed and never felt good enough because I couldn't possibly do everything WT expected of me and still have time for some relaxation to keep me sane. Watching this I see how they manipulated me and it makes me mad! Thankfully I woke up and made my way out of this cult!

Argggh!!!! I'm screaming at the screen!! Those poor, poor kids, they will have no fun, no life, no skills, no CHILDHOOD!!!

This was the video I was watching before I fell asleep last night so when I turned on my IPad this morning your image came up. I actually gave the image a brotherly kiss, I’m a great grandmother that is eternally grateful for all your hard work, you have freed the years I have left. Never give up Lloyd! I love you!

Love you BUT you missed the whole point about cart witnessing in the National Park. Here is what it is about. 1. You leave a set of magazines in the gas station bathroom when you fill up your vehicle. Drive 3 hours to the national park. 2. Set up your cart for an hour. 3. Have your picnic lunch at the national park. 4. Leave another set of magazines in the gas station as you fill up your auto before heading home. 5. Leave a set of magazines at the laundry mat when you get back home. You now have almost 10 hours in for the month for taking the family to the national park for a picnic

Video idea? How about where Caleb and Sophia are molested by the same elder, and they are told since there were no witnesses to the molestation that nothing will be done, that they should not tell anyone about it, and they will be shunned if they leave the religion because of their bad experience!

God, this morning was awful! I had to decide for myself how I was going to spend my day. And worse! Next Saturday will be the same!

Twice a week! Back in my day, it was three. Remember the Tuesday night book study? And it was at our house, so I couldn't get out of that one.!

I was at Brooklyn Bethel from '87 to '94 and the same thing happened with professionals and their families serving at the headquarters. A doctor, his wife and four children were given an entire renovated brownstone to live in. Other doctors, dentists, lawyers, and engineers were given very large suites in the Bossert and Standish hotels, also extensively renovated and owned by Watchtower. Those of us who had pioneered for years before coming to Bethel got to live in tiny rooms with a roommate and a shared dorm-style bathroom. Not to mention the orchestra members who would be invited to Bethel a couple of times a year for recording sessions. These professionally trained musicians were treated like royalty and given the best accommodations Watchtower had to offer. The message was clear- Watchtower valued educated and professionally trained members over the rank and file. And still does.

Great video btw, I always look forward to your rebuttals of the broadcasts. This was hard for me to stomach as a PIMO, especially the part with the creepy elder child.

I'm going to sleep now and will wake up to a beautiful Sat. morning where I will enjoy every moment because I never again have to go out on a Saturday morning and ring doorbells and knock on doors and disturb people who are just trying to enjoy their Sat. or Sunday morning. And there's a big NO TRESPASSING sign on my gate to scare off all the JW's so I won't be bothered by them. Yes, a NO TRESPASSING sign is like kryptonite to JW's. It totally disables them. They lose all their power and sheepishly walk away.

If you don't have a life, JWs will make sure you don't have one.

Little boys dressed in suits and tie's if they are forced to be JW's. Normal kids have jeans and are out playing.

The rock demonstration was almost as bad as the bread with the oil and garlic one from last year.

Horrendous! That's why hundreds and hundreds of them are on anti depressants, are repressed and mentally ill. And any young person who only has a Saturday morning to learn a musical instrument, engage in a wholesome sport, or just play will be frowned on by the whole congregation, if their parents allow them to do it. Instead they must be bored, embarrassed and uncomfortabl, wasting their precious young lives and leaving them unskilled and ill prepared for life. I have observed so, so many, sadly within my own family. I could weep!

I am not enjoying being belittled by Mr one syllable yellow tie! This is the kind of video I would expect to be shown to those studying English as a second language, it's far too condescending for anyone though... I think part of the Borg strategy is keeping the rank & file at a level of exhaustion that keeps them malleable, and easier to convince and keep in line.

Great rebuttal Lloyd and a huge congrats on 20k. You nailed it when after the mother's comments at around 65min you said that it's one of the most chilling moments ever in jw broadcasting. "Our children belong to Jehovah and we no longer can tell them what to do". Sums up child indoctrination. Jw parents, here's a thought - Let your children think for themselves!!

I remember an assembly in the early to mid 90’s specifically calling out modern music and how it should not be used in place of the kingdom melodies. Now they are using a more “popular style” of music to spread the message? (Not to mention a music video with it) Does not seem like the same organization it was 20 years ago.

This is truly disturbing. They demand conformity from the members. It screams cult cult cult!!! I appreciated your clip about Saturday mornings. Our weekends are so much more fulfilling and enjoyable now that we are out of the JWs.

So I work Monday to Friday from 9 to 5. Saturday I have to wake up at the crack of dawn for early morning witnessing, then meet the group, then go clean the hall. Sunday I have the meeting at 9AM then mandatory hospitality for the speaker immediately following and/or more field service. Then I need to do personal study, family worship, study for the meeting, the daily text, read the latest publications, go to the midweek meeting, write out my part on the school, clean again at the midweek meeting, plus sleep. Tell me where these "little rocks aka recreation" are supposed to fit in again?

What I find disturbing is the subtext of ISOLATION that Ciranko is advocating in the name of prayer, studying, meetings, and finally field service. If this isn't the characteristic of a cult, I don't know what to tell you. Not to mention the subtle fear and intimidation used. I agree Lloyd, what a waste of life. I have to admit that I do lament the time lost, especially in my youth.

One thing that I always find interesting when it comes to "young ones" they appear in these propaganda videos and are so zealous but I would really love to follow what happens to them when they get older and may come to the realization that they no longer believe.

This was, indeed, a very disturbing episode! It sickened me to listen to the rehearsed part with the 2 children! Such a disgusting example of intense indoctrination of little minds! Don’t even get me started on that Bethel couple with the 6 kids, how can u think of ur children as belonging to God and not yourself?!!! The whole situation with JWs having to serve time for not doing military service just puts me in mind of those in Mexico who, with the GB’s ‘blessing’ were able to bribe the officials to say they’d done the year of service. All the while those poor people getting raped, abused, and murdered in Malawi for not buying the government card for their country. Me and my friends were all brothers with responsibilities in the congregation. Plus we all had families. I will never forget how we hardly had any time to hang out because we had parts to prepare for or service plans etc... You literally had to view service as recreation or else go stir crazy because it was just so rare to have time to do the things you loved. I know this may not be the case for every witness but it doesen't change my experience or those who share my experience. To say otherwise would be to discredit that this religion conditions it's followers to sacrifice as much as possible for it's beliefs.

The doctor and his family came to Patterson after all the children were born. I (casually) knew one of his daughters. Her mother was not a Bethelite, and they were given their own house.

I wish I had a nickel for every Saturday morning I went out in service for forty years. Then I wish I had a dollar for every Saturday morning I was faithfully at the meeting for service and prominent elders always seemed to "have something else to take care of" that could have been done AFTER service!

I completely agree with your comments about eliminating hobbies in order to do endless amount for the Org being damaging. It's no surprise there are so many witnesses suffering from chronic fatigue syndromes. I clearly remember that the only way to have time for yourself was to be "unwell". You would still feel guilty. Awesome video as always!!! I'll make a prophecy. The two boys in the borg video @38:32 will no longer be in the congregation of the Witchtower before they reached 18. They clearly are intelligent kids and will be curious enough to research.

At the 56 min mark... I find it interesting that they are indoctrinating these children at the age of development where logic is black and white. I do believe the society is doing their best to keep their members at this age of development (pre-adolescent) and giving them "either or" options. Either you follow the society (and therefore God) or you don't follow the society (and therefore Satan). There is no gray, you do what is told. Also interesting that they didn't have a girl for the demonstration, since it seems (in my experience) that women seem to believe in the organization more than men.

Lloyd, once again great analyses of the various points presented and I felt your emotion during your rebuttal of the "family" part. As for having Bethelites go through pioneer school, maybe it's to give them a hint as to what they are expected to do once they are shown the door following impending Bethel layoffs?

Holy cow! Brother Schiller gave my baptism talk when I got baptized March 26, 1995 at the Monroe, NY assembly hall. One of his son's got baptized that day too. I remember brother Schiller quoted the Robert Frost poem, The Road Less Traveled, about two roads diverging in the woods. He likened choosing to 'the truth' to taking The Road Less Traveled and we benefit most greatly from that. Worst decision I ever made! I sure wish I could undue that. He seemed like a nice man. I always respected him in the past because he gave my baptism talk. I don't know his back story. I knew he was a doctor at Patterson but don't know when he became a witness. I guess I never thought about that when I was in the indoctrination bubble.

In my neighborhood, the JW's are preaching everywhere, in the park, business parking lots and on the side of the road. I've even seen them walking through cars at freeway exits trying to give out literature (very dangerous). This has been going on for a few years and I have never once seen anyone stop and talk to them or take their literature. I know this is anecdotal but does in someway support what you're saying about this strategy of preaching not working. I always enjoy your videos and look forward to them.

This should be against the law.. I see it as a form of child abuse. putting those rocks in the jar and telling them these are the unnecessary..playing, games learning an instrument. etc. I wanted to puke!!! That old fart and his teachings. I am so glad I got out years ago!! I have a couple of friends and their kids are so screwed up!! It was nice to see the Yosemite national park once again and none of the people in my earlier congregations (Jamestown or Sonora Meadows) in cart service there and Yosemite is right next to their territories and we used to be there all the time. Seriously, the background is fake, the people are fake, the interested person was a fake and everything is fake and has always been. As real as the rotating map. (The crooks in James Bond always have those fancy world maps. )

I would love to get a trained hypnotist’s view on that word salad about time. It doesn’t make any sense, but it’s how many of these things are introduced. Is it some kind of neural linguistic programming?

I wonder if a few people have contacted them and said that they love the old JWB but due to years of plying the poorly educated and vulnerable folks in society, the average Borg member doesn't understand common terms like 'time' and 'priority'. Neither can they organise their own personal schedules without heavy interference from the GB.... And as for the videos targeted towards children. They make me sick to my stomach.

I just watched the latest episode of "Top Chef" where Tom Colicchio, a famous chef in America said: '...memories make us who we are..." Reminded me of what you just said in this video.

The Jehovah's witnesses basically destroyed my entire family. I was in the religion from birth till around 17. I've been traveling around and well, pretty lost in "the world" since. I'm 38 now and all this recap is just reminding me how messed up the organization really is. I want a refund on my childhood. And my family.

We did not learn that in real life the size of the rock changes and anticipating that you should leave most of the little rocks out or the jar breaks. The latter alternative is called the pioneer illness. And it is actually a worse idea of having stones in a glass jar compared to pieces of glass in a stone jar.

That song was TERRIBLE! Makes me want to blow many chunks. BTW you hit the nail on the head about the Schillers. This was a special circumstance since he was a Doctor, and they lived in property very close to the Patterson, NY complex which owns several properties in close proximity to it. They were "THE" Bethel family with free reign throughout Bethel and they're family name was huge. Their children impacted several congregations in the Bethel, NY area, some positively, some adversely.

I think I will correct you on the China situation. There's actually a considerable amount of witnesses in China, I've been to China and met a few. I've also met many American, Korean, and English witnesses who went there to preach and felt like people were very receptive. They preach informally and the JW website is no longer blocked, it's a little more free than people realise, as long as they don't formally preach and meet in small house groups, and they travel to Korea or Hong Kong for assemblies. Regardless I get what you're saying and I do agree that it's ludicrous.

My first friend was a boy named Issac stuck in a JW home. We were in first grade. When my birthday came around I spent a Saturday morning with my mom making little heart invitations to my party. They got passed out at class and of course I liked other children but I was really excited that Issac was finally going to come over! All of them got passed around but the one to Issac ended up passed back to me and oh man, I cried... well like the little girl I was. He had to explain that he couldn't go and why at recess. I'll never forget it. We drifted apart as we grew up but I really wonder about him now. Man the damage this shit does, I hope he's okay.
