Had a white collar profession, then layoffs from greed got me knocked into precisely the kinds of roles she's talking about! One may not like it but this is a class system we live under. Have a good friend who would get on me when I talked about blue collar work, telling me her janitor dad and teacher mom, raised her and her siblings, one a think a doctor and she a lawyer. To me, any job one is forced to do to get by will always be nothing but a check to me, one I'm not wedded to. That is not living, but existing!!
Thank you! Some people have attempted to keep us down for centuries and we still make it. We might be down for a minute, but we will NEVER be out! Can you imagine if we had the same access and opportunities as some others? Every group as their ones that won't try but we have come so far as a people, while many, many other groups have tried to put us down and keep us down.
☹️ this was very disappointing. Although I agree with the sentiments, IMO, it was unnecessary because it came in response against standing with your sister. I know that it is naturally our nature as black women to want to nurture & coddle at the same time having to provide & protect but I think that the sisters that disagreed with Eboni should have just sat this one out. When men list their dating requirements based on age, weight & children & then leverage it based upon where they feel they’re sitting on the totem pole everyone takes it as preference. So why when this educated, witty, accomplished, gorgeous woman says she wouldn’t date a person with an average job everyone gets upset🧐…majority of us work average jobs. She doesn’t. I don’t have an issue with service workers, heck I’m a service worker as well but her preference is her preference. She is worth millions from my understanding so it make sense. Shoot no one blanks an eye when bm get money and date every race other than black nor do they blank an eye when other race intentionally go after these bm because they have money. I saw an entire series where they asked black ladies & White ladies their expectations for a man's salaries that they would date. All the black ladies were on the struggle love bus and willing to work with a brother. All the white ladies were on that 6 figures and up type situation. Black ladies are socialized to have low expectations. White ladies are socialized to have standards. When black ladies have standards we are goldiggers. When White ladies have standards, it's acceptable. Black men will rise to the occasion to date Becky but not when they date a black lady. White ladies can be soft and feminine because men provide an environment for them to do so. Black ladies are forced to be masculine and hustle to get the bag because black men don't provide an environment for us to be soft and feminine. That being said, black ladies open your options and date outside of black men. Let them protect and provide for their preference (Becky). Train your eyes to find other nationality of men attractive. Black men prefer Becky. You had better start learning to prefer Brad or get you some cats!

Who are ANY of us to judge or label someone or what they do to earn an honest income, as being average? Some folks making 6 figures are called average, by those whose incomes are higher, while some making just below 6 figures maybe be judged as poor. 😮
The moment Eboni answered that most poignant question posed by Iyanla, I understood why she doesn’t have a husband. Or even A MAN, for that matter.💯 With one good question, Eboni answered from heart, I believe, and proved she doesn’t even know WHAT a man is, or their true value in a proper union. It’s NOT about what a man makes, but what kind of a “man” he is. Quality that go beyond what a man makes, and touches his deepest drives. When a woman with such insight meets even the poorest man, his actions and direction can change almost overnight. Speaking for myself, I never even cared about how much I made, until I found a wife. She was ALREADY the wife I needed before I even met her. Such women are EXTREMELY rare (though, shouldn’t be…), and often are the ones who FINALLY “figure it out”. I make considerably more now than I did when we met, because my job is to take care of her. Not just because she’s my wife, but she did it for me before we married. From me, she gets what she DESERVES.😐
I graduated last Sunday with a Masters degree and I noticed everyone graduating with an Engineering degree was of Indian decent…those with cybersecurity degrees White and Asian. I thought to myself where are all the black men? Probably driving the damn bus…

Same here. While shes spoken to "Low Expectations" here.... It often seems she supports it via liberal policy. Everyone's a victim in needing government rescue. The new mayor of Chicago, a teacher for 20yrs stated he's never given an "F". Yet the black literacy level of that city is abysmal. All in the name of Diversity, Inclusion, Equity. In REAL LIFE, I typically see degreed woman with blue collar men. As for myself in the Corporate "cult"😮💨world... BM aren't even in the building let alone at the same table to be honest. Nobody cares if you want to date someone who is in your range of expectations, but everything Eboni said came off as stomping on regular people, discrediting working class people that made it possible for her to sit in a studio and have a platform, downing people that weren’t good grade school students etc. A lot of successful people weren’t excellent students, or treated not being good at it as a form of mediocrity. You find you way in life, and make your own path. Getting grades, going to college, and getting a nice job doesn’t always equate to the uppity standards she’s looking for either. If you don’t want to date regular people, that’s fine, but she’s old, childless, not married, and full of attitude, so people with families, multiple jobs, etc are going to dismiss her opinions. It’s not a joke when people say she’s heading towards being that old miserable lady with pets.
I'm glad you didn't come at Eboni K. Williams' comments directly. I think she's entitled to her opinion and I don't blame her for the level she's at for not wanting to date a bus driver. I also agree with your thoughts as well regarding "mediocre" service jobs. Someone's job title should not determine their worth but most people date people in the same socioeconomic circles as they are. Also, there are a lot of systemic barriers that make it difficult for black folks to get into the higher socioeconomic circles than the one they were born into. I think it's 2 different conversations but I'm glad we are discussing this as a community.

As a person who was raised by his grandparents I have heard about and personally seen them work at youth corrections facilities, create roads, be a nurse, a caretaker, work with the elderly and meals-on-wheels, be an entrepreneur carpenter, while being a husband, father and grandfather, a wife, mother, and grandmother, a deacon in the church. Raising their own 5 children who were all university grads. I myself being born with spina-bifida have in my 52 years have worked construction, catering, teaching art in the school system and after-school system, moving, delivering pizzas, pool hall, club bouncer and barback, I am a Christian minister, a strength trainer, I have been certified nurses assistant (CNA1), an EKG monitor tech, a youth basketball coach and probably ly some other things that ha enough slipped my mind.... ♿ 👩🦼
