My thoughts on the Snapper self propelled lawn mower

I just bought a Snapper Hi-Vac from 1999. I swapped the motor from my FWD Snapper (7.25 BEATS THAT 6HP, BRUH!!!), replaced the blade with a new Copperhead Hi-Lift, replaced the two discs and belts because all the bearings were kind of dried out. Basically, the disc drive has been completely redone including the idler pulleys. I repainted the deck with Rustoleum Apple Red, which is an almost perfect match and available at the Home Depot. I expect this mower to be the last one I have to buy. I like fixing small engines and have an old 1996 Lawn Boy F-Series with the aluminum deck.

Thanks for the up front video. My Snapper consists of a 1974 21 inch deck handlebars off of a 1993 with a 2002 Honda 5.5 motor. I love the multi year parts compatibility.

Yes, I mow Snapper! I've been busy with this mower now for a long time. I bought a lift-handle with the grass bag when we were buying in the Trader. I'm using another one, a 2002 6.0 HP and my shift lever is up at the top end of the handle,....handy. My Snapper is a 6-speed Mulching Mower. This year is different than the past,...my mower is not starting. I'm looking at the coil and the carb,... truthfully, My Snapper started first pull usually, but last year was a tough start at first mow and this year is a little like that but I have not heard the engine sputtering at all. Bought a plug, and feeler gauges for the coil and have found a carb, OEM Briggs and Stratton. Thought it was troubled by an open valve,... but seems to have plenty of compression. Tomorrow, I pour a tsp. of fuel through the carb and look to see exhaust fumes. I love 💕 My Snapper too!!!

B Mason I totally agree with you. I have that same one but with 6.5hp Quantum XM. The best mower that I have owned. I like it more than the zero turns that I have owned. I really do not understand why Snapper went out of business when they were making machines of this quality. Maybe Snapper made them too good which means the machine lasted too long which kept people from buying another one.

Now that's one tough lawn mowing machine! I mean the mower.....LOL!!!!!!! Awesome!

the hi vac is for bagging and the ninja model is king at mulching. these are hands down the best lawnmowers sold today.

I have a 1997 Hi Vac with B&S Quantum 5 hp engine. I found it sitting beside a dumpster. It needed a carburetor kit , primer bulb, pull rope and oil change.$40 in parts ! I have been using it for last 15 years. The engine was getting a little tired this year, need to Lape the valves and clean the carbon off the head, runs like new again . Cheers

I miss my Snapper, but not sure why. The Ninja blade wears out fast, the cable always breaks. I hated that I had to install wing nuts to go from mulching to side discharge and never liked adjusting the height at each wheel, and the transmission gets sloppy after a while. If it were $400. dollars instead of $719, I'd have one again, just so I had something worthy of complaining about.

I’m so late to this party but the tampon up a guys ass thing was over the top. It’s a freakin lawn mower not a family heirloom. All that and we don’t even get to see it perform? Since you asked, I cut my grass with a 2004 John Deere LT 160. I’m all done and having a beer and smoke while you’re still jogging along snappin it.

Wow Dude ; Mid Engine ? Very impressive indeed. My pos troybilt sucks on the hind tit of a Snapper. I love me some Snapper. I always think back to the old days when we used to go to the drive in movies & see stuff like Russ Myers Super Vixens. More recently I think of the Dice Man in The Adventures of Ford Fairlane calling people Snapper Heads. I did see a Toro flying accross the street one day tho. My neighbors xmsn quit on his Toro and he just started swinging it around in a circle and let it go flying accross the street. Lucky no cars or people were hurt but I will always remember that & bring it up from time to time.

I enjoy bringing out my 94 snapper with a Kawasaki engine and gator blade.

I have a 12 year old one and I love it. I’ve had to replace a bearing or two but I maintain it very well. Question have you ever done anything with the transmission? I’ve done zero over the 12 years with it. Wondering if adding grease or replacing the grease is recommended. Have you ever had issues or done any maintenance on your transmission?

i just got a snapper sp90 in order to keep this lawn mower clean i got a ryobi 2800 pressure washer to clean the underside of the deck great lawnmower

That's no boys mower, that's a man's lawn mower. As compared to mine, I simply have a 6.5 all wheel drive lawn boy variable speed automatic, and this snapper just has me full of envy with it's much superior design and performance.

I bought one in the 1990'. It performed fine but it is not even in the same league as my new snapper SPX 2342FAB lawn tractor. The SPX does not have a clutch or shift lever, either. The 6hp snapper push mower was a good mower but I think my Honda HRR216 is a slightly better push mower, even though it's propulsion system sucks when compared to the snapper.

I just picked up a 2012 Snapper hi vac, this one has a 8.75 Briggs on it! Didn't know they had them that big, may as well put a bar stool on it and use it as a rider! Lol

All those Briggs Quantom engines are the same regardless of the hp sticker.Briggs got in trouble for stating different hp ratings. ALL are the same

I have two of these. One is on the bench now, getting it's first full service in 20 years. New cables, drive ring, springs, and the works. I bought my first 6HP P21600 Snapper because when I get around to cutting grass it's usually between knee high and waist high. This baby walks right over and chews the tall grass up without having to clutch. No frustration of bogging down and repeated restarts. Sad to say, Snapper too has been drug down by punks with zits. How do you cut 12" grass with front wheel drive when 12" grass lifts the front half of the deck off the ground? A punk will never understand this.

Well I bought a new Snapper back in 2015 and I'm very disappointed in it found out after I bought it that it was nothing but a Murray push mower we have Snappers logo on it are about it sinking that I had a real snapper found out that I could have bought the same push mower with the Murray name or $100 cheaper but I was under the impression when I bought my more that I was getting a real snapper cuz I remember these snappers back in the 80s and 90s what are the best you can get and I don't appreciate that snapper is just selling their name now the other companies and let them stick their name on it making people think they're getting a snapper when a Murray push mower or MTD enjoy Bill are the exact same push mowers and they charge you $100 more for a Snapper when the only difference is the name Willie Moore is built exactly the same and has the same engine same deck the only difference is the Snappers might have a different plastic piece on top of the engine and that does it make it worse an extra hundred dollars wish I could find a good old Snapper push mower from the late 90s in good shape I would rather pay the $200 price for one of them then I would that new fake jumps they are selling at Walmart that's not a real snapper
