My Thursday Boot Captains Get a Makeover 

Saturday Morning, coffee, and watching Trenton & Heath resoling a pair of Thursday's Boots. A good way to start your day.

This episode made me laugh. I was watching and my wife came in and asked what I was watching. I explained and she said watching shoes get fixed sounded boring and silly. Then she saw the guys and finished the show with me. Looks like you two just replaced the property brothers as her new favorite brothers. She has watched them for years despite hating remodeling, now we can watch shoe videos even if she thinks it is silly. Lol.

For the record Trent, you DID mention in the previous rugged and resilient care video that the spray comes in different colors. You had your bases covered my friend. :) As always, great work and a pleasure to watch you both perform your craft!

The brown/black/brown/black stack on the heal looks really cool, and the yellow stitching really looks good. I couldn't own these; I'd waste to much time staring at the bottom of my feet.

My first GYW shoes were a pair off Captains that my parents got for me as a gift after I got my first office job. A few years ago I had them resoled with this same Vibram 430 for the same reasons. I think the 430 goes well with a lot of different footwear.

Would be cool if you guys showed off favourites from your own collections!

Ive wanted to ask for ages..but not seen many Thursdays resoles...does the midsole need to be replaced every time a resole is done? And would that be the case with a stick on sole like the Stormking or Cristy's? 🤔 Great video btw 👍

These are great- I’m going to do the same thing with a brand new pair of Vanguards. What did you do with the insole of the boot? Can you add that? Did you add the Eva back?

When it comes time to resole my Thursdays, this is the exact treatment I will be asking for.

I have a few pairs of Thursday and absolutely love the quality and how well Thursday takes care of customers.

Any thoughts on Dainite vs the Vibram Mini Lug 430 after wearing them?

As always great video. I’ve had folks tell me I need re-soled, but I’m pretty sure they were not referring to putting some new vibrams on my feet. 😆

Nice. Now, since you brought it up. I'm one of those guys that didn't know the Saphir spray conditioner came in colors. The first can I bought/used was neutral. I missed the color option when I bought the second can. Sadly, I now have a brand-spanking-new pair of desert tan suede work boots which has a misting of BLACK on part of one boot. Haven't even worn these boots yet. To date, I have not found a desert tan dye suitable for suede, but did find a "beige" from Angelus. So, my question is, what do you guys suggest as an approach? Some acetone and a suede brush to begin with? I stopped immediately upon seeing black, and did not apply anything else to these new boots (waterproofing spray). Not mad at anyone. Of course, the OLD work boots weren't the ones this happened to, it was the new ones.

My wife was really worried when she saw me watching this video. Wifey -“please don’t start another hobby”! I went down a rabbit hole and watched most of not all of your videos. I know your not taking any new rebuilds but…….I have a pair of “Red Wing Rovers” that I want to get new soles installed on. I haven’t seen hardly anyone rebuild:)

Great channel! I on the otherhand, based on watching you'all, have decided to do only all my own shoe repair. I figure after I acquire all the equipment and since I'm only doing my own shoes it will cost about $500.00 a pair. Thanks for your inspiration. So weird! I just bought my first ever real pair of boots and they're a pair of Thursday Captains. They're supposed to arrive today and I can't wait to try them out!

Since these are your personal boots, I'd love to hear how you like the feel before/after on the Thursdays, since you're moving up to a cork-filled leather midsole (and slightly different tread). Rare chance to get personal opinions after a couple months' wear-in!

I did the same thing to my Thursday boots years ago from stock to German leather soles and glued on vibram non slip rubber soles they are a solid combo going 4 years strong

If a glue pot doesn't look like it's been through hell and back is it really a glue pot? Also, bad smelling hot cork pr0n. Awzz yeah. LOL

Just making this clear. He DID say the spray is color. His instructions were very clear, so he has zero responsibility for others' inability to listen carefully. I paused that old video many times to look at the picture of the products he used to ensure I got the same one. If his instructions weren't clear enough I would have never bought and used those products on my Thursday boots, to begin with, and I would have looked for different videos on RU-vid.

Nicely done. I’m a huge fan of Thursday Captains and the lug sole is a great upgrade.

Great job gentlemen. I have a question i see where some cobblers cut a channel and stitch the boots and some don’t cut a channel. Does that make a difference. In my opinion I think cutting a channel would protect the stitches. Let me know. Have a good weekend everyone.

What would it take to get my boots cleaned and new soles? I work for the trash industry, so my boots see trucks, cement, rocks, mud, oil, trash… and so on. I love my boots. And would like to keep them, not as worth boots. But as regulars. Maybe take a video of the abuse repair???

Do you resolve Birkenstock’s? My soles are wearing out and I was looking to replace them with something more durable like a vibram sole! I know they can be resoled, but I would rather send them to you than a cobbler I’m not familiar with

Thinking about getting a pair. A bit confused about size, sizing states one size smaller than your sneaker size if that makes any sense. I just want to get the right size first time around. Tell me is your normal boot size the same as the size you ordered or did you do the sneaker thing ? Nice soles glad they work out. By the way didn’t catch the color of your boot, was it brown ?

I had a pair of carolina boots resoled at a local cobbler shop. He replaced with a vibram sole. They are so much heavier than the originals and the heal doesn't sit right. When I walk they clomp more. Not happy with them. Do they make a lighter weight boot soles? I guessing the cobbler should have angled the heal wedge slightly so it walks better. Not sure if it makes sense. But wondering why it weighs so much more and if there are lighter option?

I'd like to know if youre willing to add more arch support to my thursdays if i sent them over? And i dont know if its possible but more cushioning? Oh oh and airbrush the toes in a deep red!! I imagine it'd be better to email this question though haha

I've been thinking of buying a pair of everyday boots and thought of Thursday Boots. Are these good quality leather/boots or is there another brand for equal or less money that offers better quality?

I noticed you guys don't wear safety glasses/goggles. What about flying pieces of nails, or shoe parts?

Mini lug. So was there cork in the cavity originally? Why did you change the cork out? Won't that change the feel of the boot?

The Vibrum Mini Lug looks good with that boot and the stitching color turned out well.

I just moved to Colorado about two weeks ago, right before I moved out here from California I took my Ariats to a shoe repair place and asked them to resole my boots, I told him to put some soles with tread on them. He charged me a hundred bucks and he put this same brand of soles that you put on your boots, but these have tread on the entire sole other then the arch. I noticed the welt looks cracked all over the place and the sole on one of the boots is pretty much peeling off. It doesn't look like he put any stitching at all. What am I supposed to do here? I don't want to just use freakin' shoe goo. any suggestions?

I personally HATE the new style Vibram soles that are only textured in the middle and left smooth about an inch around the edge. Anyone that really uses their boot's for traction especially on an incline knows that the ball of your foot is the area that's needed for good grip and for tearing up an embankment. The tread needs to go all the way to the edge of the sole. I'm not even sure what the sole used here was meant for other than tracking mud inside the house.

why did you use cork instead of the poron? only personal preference? Did they have a shank? great video as always!

Where is the leather mmidsole? Thursday used to have leather midsole between the cork and the outsole...did they start cutting corners?

Has anyone thought about inventing a hot vibrating blade for this type of work seems like once you hot use ti using it it would be more consistent for cutting and separating the layers and cutting through the thread cord string whatever material might be safer

The best part of knowing how to do stuff is being able to customize things to your needs, whether it is more traction on your boots, or a hammer handle a different length, or a shirt that is longer or shorter, or a knife whose handle just suits your hand.

If you guys don't resole your own shoes and boots what do you do? Pay somebody else to do it for you or just buy new ones when they're worn out?

Just watched the video talking about caring for your rugged and resilient boots and you literally say that the spray comes in different colours. It’s mentioned multiple times in fact. Anyone that messed up their boots by using the wrong colour is, what we here in Canada like to call, a dumb-dumb.
