See my toolpost locking alignment and locking screw upgrade. For the Myford ML7 . Used to seat and lock the toolpost square on the toolpost fixture I made. I did this upgrade specifically for toolpost drilling to stop the toolpost from moving out of square on the block.

I wish you would have indexed it one last time to see if it hit the first hole. Must have been a good sharp bit!

Hi Thanks yes we are ok at the moment. Just hope it stays that way. Our part of the UK isn't as badly affected as other parts, but it could soon change as they are easing the lockdown too quickly with still too many infections in the country.

There sure is a lot of flex of that part when the drill is being pushed inward. I this just from the part stick out or the chuck/spindle not tight?
@SteveJordan
@SteveJordan 4 года назад
The jaws were not tight enough on that shot. Also normally I would have the bar protruding less or supported by a live centre for toolpost drilling. Regards Steve
@TheIntermont
@TheIntermont 4 года назад
I like the discs, but wouldn't a bar work just as well? I'd think it would give better support than just two-point contact.
@SteveJordan
@SteveJordan 4 года назад
Hi Mark no it's absolutely solid. If I used a bar I would have to take out two bolts to take it off if I wanted to swivel the toolpost Regards Steve

Gday Steve, certainly a rigid set up, perfect centre height as well, can you tell me what type of oil you use, at a guess is it chainsaw bar oil?, when you put it on the end of the drill bit there was no “flinging” off when you spun it up which there’s less mess and no wastage, thanks for another great video mate, cheers Matty

Hi Matty, good question. I just noticed at 4:10 that the bottle says "EP cutting ..." so I think it's an extreme pressure cutting oil or cutting fluid. This is interesting because the stuff I have been able to get locally (sutton viper brand) is quite thin. I reckon the thick stuff would be quite good. Hopefully Steve sees your question and lets us know what it is.
@MattysWorkshop

I’ve been using Bordo brand cutting oil and it’s a bit thicker then Sutton viper, I’ve often wondered about bar oil but not real sure if that would be any good, I guess I should just try it,

@@CraigsWorkshop Hi Craig, I purchase some steel of a guy closing up his grinding shop in Dandenong Vic, he gave me a 20 litre drum of the cutting oil they used in the shop. He actually bought it in 205 litre drums. I don't know the name of it, but I think it is better than Sutton Viper. If you like I can send you some. Cheers Peter

Steve, just sharing my experience trying to order a Machifit 250_300 quick change toolpost and 8 tool holders(250_301) Banggood have all the items listed as in stock and order processed in 2 working days. The 8 tool holders are estimated for UK delivery in about 20 working days(not too bad). The toolpost,on the other hand, is estimated to take 50 working days for UK delivery(too long). This order would have totalled over £450.00 gbp. At that sort of amount I would expect all the bits to arrive at the same time and certainly quicker than 50 working days. Needless to say I didn't complete the purchase.😥

Nicely modded,Steve. That set up is sure to give reliable alignment. I experience the same tool post alignment 'creep' as I tighten the pillar top nut when I'm trying to align a parting or threading tool parallel to the chuck face. It often takes a couple of re-adjustments to compensate for the nut dragging it out of square.

Hi Steve,. that is just brilliant. I have noticed how the toolpost does move sometimes even with tightening up solid. I haven't been able to make that solid block yet to hold the toolpost holder but when I do it will certainly have this addition to it. I've had other commitments to deal with and one being to overhaul my shop completely so bin limited on lathe time. Thanks so much for showing this. Your fan, Dale in Canada

Hi Jeffrey I scribed a line square from the side of the block so the screw holes were in line with the toolpost. Then just put the toolpost on square and turned up a spacer until it just went on touching the side of the toolpost. Then made another one to the exact diameter. Regards Steve
