Have you ever thought about doing a series or a course for beginner photographers? Point me in the right direction of it already exists... many thanks from Newcastle Australia 🇦🇺
Hello from Peru, I just bought my M50 mark II and all your tips have been extremely helpful to me, this is my first camera and I had nobody to ask about all this information.
Mark this video is so damn good in terms of explanation and real advisory content. I have just bought my m50 mark ii and this video is something which takes away all confusion
Not a top 10 item for most people, but you can't overlook many of the various speedbooster options available on the EF-M. If you already have a bunch of FF glass, it will adapt well to EF-M minimizing the crop factor. Biggest downside is the size and heft of FF glass on EF-M making it difficult to hold with one hand.
Instead of the canon adapter i would highly suggest the villtrox speedbooster for the m50. Makes your camera closer to a "fullframe" camera, so a 50mm would be a 55mm instead of a 80mm with the 1.6x crop.
I use a M42 screw mount EF adapter as I started off with a full DSLR and still use my DSLR and M50 side by side I also use the eos m to FD adapter and will use the FD 50mm f1.7
The main reason why i decided to pull the trigger and get an m50 mkii was since i already had around 5 ef/ef-s lenses. With an adaptor i wouldnt have to go out and buy all new glass. The transittion from a budget 2000D seems like it should be fairly smooth.
Hi Mark- I bought the camera strap per your review (and your link). I LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS STRAP. I tried to use the one that came with the camera and no go. Thanks!
Just picked up the strap and screen protectors from your links. Great vid. Thank you. I thought I had everything I needed but I learned of a few other great options today.
Seems I need a intervalometer for my m50 and will be used during the August monsoon storm chasing workshop. I looked on Amazon but couldn't find one? What would you recommend? Thanks.
Hello Mark! I have a Nikon Nikkor AF-S DX 18-140mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR Lens and just purchased the Canon M50 Mark II but I have no idea what adaptor to use… would you be so kind as to guide me in right direction…..🙏🏼🤗
This is the best video for Cannon M50 accessories I have ever seen. I use to interview restaurant owners and I am getting my voice in audio OK but theirs can't be heard well, what microphone set you would recommend to get good quality audio on both voices? Thanks
Hey love your videos. Maybe you can provide a bit of clarity for me. I understand you recommend lens hoods, which i have purchased. But you say you didn't recommend lens filters because they can cause distorted pictures? But in another video you recommend them... I'm confused. I want to protect my investment
Yes, I have since found some filters that do not degrade the image at all, and use them on all of my lenses. So I recommend them, but only the filters that I have linked in those other videos.
But in one of your video you said viltrox adaptor is not good and it can damage the camera thread?? I am confused which one to use viltrox or cannon?????? Pl suggest
This camera is so good it has made it hard for me to go back to a normal camera. I do lots of travel/backpacking destination photography and the size of this camera is just so nice. Plus the quality is not reflective of the image quality. Whenever I eventually get a FF camera it will be in addition too this because this camera will be for travel for a long time.
I am curious on your take. I know this is about the M50 but this video made me think about it. With my Helios 44-2 I use it on my canon ef. I am upgrading to an EOS-R. Would it make more sense to buy a new adapter for m42-RF or use the EF screw adapter to the EF-RF adapter.
No, but you an add macro tubes to it, the adapter just adds the distance the lens needs to work. It puts the lens in the same position, form the sensor, that it would be in a DSLR.
Got a question, not sure if you know the answer. I have an M6. Not the Mark ii though. Small rig no longer lists a cage for it. Amazon, Ebay, B&H, Adorama, etc no luck. As mine went MIA I need a replacement. Can you recommend one or one that would fit?
I have an pentax k on ef-m adapter and I also love it you can get an 50mm f1.8 for like 25€ and the look of the images is verry cool. Bit be aware of damaged lenses with fungus or scratches
Great video learnt some nice things. With the m42 adapter 42mm screw adapter in the link you gave. What lenses would you recommend using this? I’m on a budget and just starting out. I have the kit lens and a cannon 55-200mm also going to buy a viltrox booster for the 50mm 1.8 😊 Thankyou prior for responding to the post :) kind regards
I am going to buy the M50 markii with the vloggers kit ( with Stereo Microphone DM-E100 & Tripod Grip HG-100TBR ) for additional extra $100 with the kit(15-45 mm) what do you think about the deal (if u think it's a bad one , what else should I buy)
No, I always record to the recorder. That gives the camera audio as a backup track, if something goes wrong. If you plug in the pass through wire to the camera, and something goes wrong, you get no audio track in the camera or recorder.
And should I buy the lens hood, UV filter, screen protector, and a extra battery or do you think its too expensive for any items i mentioned ( if yes then which one should I exclude or buy a third party online one) [also recommend the brand for any third party brand]
Great explanation on your video. I'm fairly new to my M50 and I have a few mobility issues. Was wondering if the handipod that you described is the best for me? At this time in my adventure I'm mostly interested in landscape photos. Is a full sized tripod my best option? If so which one would you recommend?
Great video, liked for the algorithm. I just bought the screen protectors and EF-EOS m adapter through the link. Hopefully you get a cut. I just got a Canon EF-S 55-250mm zoom lens and can't wait to get it set up. I am going to Glacier National Park in a few weeks so I hope to use the zoom lens to get a wildlife shot or two.
Thanks! One of my very favourite parks, make sure you rent one of the little boats and go for a cruise around the lake, the views from the lake are very special. I have such fond memories of that park.
Wish there was a grip for the M50 that just made the grip bigger, without the extra cage parts across the top and left side. I've searched, but I can't find one. Maybe I could get the smallrig one and hacksaw off the unnecessary parts.
Because I have owned a number of these cameras over the years, I have ended up with extra Canon batteries, so had no need to buy 3rd party. Having said that, I have had good luck withe Neewer and Wasabi batteries in other brand cameras, so worth looking at them.
I have had someone else have the same issue, and others have not. Without seeing it, it would be hard for me to diagnose. Is the filter actually wider than the end of the lens?
I really appreciate and followed a lot of your suggestions including the screen protector for my m50mk2. I read a lot of ppl saying their screen wouldn’t close properly with the protector… why is that? Is there any advice on that?
On my camera the screen can be closed, with the screen facing into the camera, but it does not “click” into place. This really isn’t an issue for me as I would only close the screen, with the screen facing in, to protect the screen (which is now protected by the screen protector). You can also turn the screen on and off manually, if you don’t want the screen coming on, and want to only use the viewfinder.
great video, thanks. How about an opinion on photo editing software? I've just ordered my first camera, the M50 and am weighing up the software to buy, currently leaning towards Luminar AI but would love to hear your opinion Mark.
Canon also makes $30 lens protector filters that have no UV component. Do you know if they any good? I can't come anything on what glass they're made of.
I would take the one that I have linked over the Canon. It's complicate to explain, but I think it's better, better coatings (which is what makes the difference)
Thanks for the informative video! I ordered a few things from your suggestions. I do have a question regarding external flash which do you recommend and would it use a trigger for remote capability? Thanks again.
I will try to do a video about my flash setup in the next few days. I have just completely changed systems, and sold off my Canon made flash system. This is the trigger - geni.us/LOQG This is the flash - geni.us/8ae1k I use the trigger and up to two of the flashes (one is plenty to start with). This is a high end professional level setup, which has better function than the genuine Canon flash system, and for far less money. The flash battery goes all day and recovers for the next shot almost instantly, my mind was blown the first time I used it.
Hello from France Mark, thank you for the video it was super helpful, a quick question can i use the Canon M50 for a podcast and if so how do you suggest i bypass the time limit records. Also what are the must have lens on this camera for street photography especially in low light ie at night and a cinematic look
My favourite street lens is the EF-M 32mm. The best way to bypass the time limit is run an hdmi cable to USB capture dongle, then into the computer. Use a battery eliminator to make sure the battery doesn’t die. I will try and do a video about it.
Hi, Mark just got the Helios 44m lens with the adapter and my M50 won't take photos with is on also after a few attempts give me an "error 70" message. Just wondering if you had any knowhow on how to fix this issue. Cheers
There is a setting in the menu system, take photo without lens, or something like that. That will fix the issue. The lens has no electronics, so the camera does not know there is a lens attached.
Very informative video! If I were to purchase the zoom f1-sp would I need the small shotgun mic as well? I guess I’m asking if the zoom can handle all mic tasks.
Thanks for the video. I got a template glass for my M50 but it doesn't allow the screen to be complete closed. Could you please confirm you can close the screen and it closes perfectly? Also, does the frame scratch the camera in any way? I saw another camara when they took the frame off the cámara body has some scratches/marks from the frame touching the cámara body. Thanks again for the video.
My screen protector stops the screen from clicking in when closed, and the screen facing in. For me the only reason to face the screen in, is to protect it, and so with the protector on I don’t worry about it. You can also turn the screen off and the EVF on, manually, if having the screen turn in bothers you. My cage has not cause any damage to the camera, there are number of different cages and versions of the cages, I have linked the newest, and best one, in description.
You need to know what the Minolta mount is and get the correct adapter. I made a recent video about adapting vintages lenses, that should help explain in.
@@markwiemels Hi again :) I just read that macro tubes can sometimes damage a camera. Could you tell me how were you able to determine that these would not damage a Canon M50? In addition to considerations about electronics, someone had a comment that, "One thing to watch out for, these tubes create a new focusing distance range. Some lenses might 'hunt like crazy' back and forth if pointed at a subject out of that range, which is not a healthy thing for the focusing motor"
Can you give me a description of your macro ring. When I click on the link now it gives a lot of different rings and I am not sure which one you meant.
Thank you very much! I've been compiling a shopping list for an M50 now for a few hours, researching all the bits and bobs and this has been by far the most informative and helpful review of accessories. Could you recommend a battery grip thats compatible with the smallrig frame or is that just not a thing that could happen? Great video btw.
I ordered a set of the extension tubes and it is plastic and your look metal. I would think the metal would hold up better overtime. Do you have a link to the metal ones?
