My favorite autograph is from when I met my favorite player of all time, Clayton Kershaw, in an airport and he signed a card for me. Such a cool memory
I love that this stuff isn't for sale, it shows you do treasure the memories behind getting each one of them. My in person autographs will go with me to the grave (ok, maybe I'll give them to my kids)
A bunch of connections in a row, I love it! 1. Penn and Teller. My mom was at a Literary Guild cocktail party in the late 80s on the roof of the St. Regis. Her book and Teller's book were getting honored. She came home and told us how she met Teller and how he talked her ear off! I was like Mom, Teller does NOT talk! She was like Oh yes he does........ 2. Phantom Tollbooth, the one guy involved whose auto you didn't get, Maurice Sendak, was one of my hometown's most famous residents. He lived there for the last 40 years of his life, which covered my entire childhood. My sister and I loved Where the Wild Things Are, and I'm pretty sure we would have had/loved it even without the connection. 3. Jerry Dior...only the obvious one here in that we have the same name, but spelled differently. This connection is like a sorbet, to cleanse the palate for... 4. Rosie O'Donnell--years later in my mom's career, Rosie was interested in turning her book into a movie. She's had a lot of close calls with Hollywood, but this was the closest. Alas, nothing became of it. Still kinda cool to know Rosie read/liked her book though!
Really enjoyed this! I love the idea of sharing autographed items that have unique stories, rather than those that are simply worth the most money. I have a similar mindset with my own collection - many of my favorite pieces are valuable to me for the story behind them, rather than their market worth.
That’s the book I own. So I knew about your father before I knew about you. I love Woody Allen and having tried to be one myself, I love cartoon strips. My dad would take me to Woody Allen movies when I was a kid and we kept that up until he died in 1995. Going to the cinema in Oslo (Norway) watching Manhattan is one of my fondest memories. I love watching you presenting this book to us. Thank you for this. Btw. I bought several of this book and gave away as presents and I’m quite sure I’m nearly forgiven by all recipients, ha ha (attempt at humour… not quite ready for the Catskills yet).
Loved seeing the autographs. I didn’t get any of mine in person sadly, but my absolute favorite one is a signed photo of Lauren Bacall, who was one of my favorite actresses and married to Humphrey Bogart, my all-time favorite actor. In 2018 right before I had to move whilst really being against it, I was hanging with one of my friends for the last time and we found this store in the mall filled with autographed memorabilia of all kinds, and we didn’t even know it was there! He even gave me almost half-off the cost of it because I was moving in a few days.
I got Cal Ripken's 100th home run and gave it to him.. He signed a baseball "To Wayne, thanks for #100" I also had a Ripken Museum. I was mentioned in Cal's book on page 298. "The Only Way I Know" by Cal Ripken, Jr., Mike Bryan · 1998 · Biography & Autobiography "Wayne Radi , a fan in Thurmont , Maryland , west of Aberdeen , opened a Cal Ripken Museum above his Signature Shoppe" .
I, unfortunately, to my knowledge, don’t have an autograph, but I do have a fun memory, and that is being there for what might be Pujols’ last home run at Busch Stadium. That was also my last baseball game with my grandpa, so that’s another reason why I hold that memory.
Those are some neat items, especially your dad's book of his comic strips! Wow, very cool! One of my favorites from my own small collection is a Randy Velarde signature I got with my dad when I was young.
I guess my Whitey Ford signed baseball (even though I despise the Yankees) it's a really cool ball. Tough one cuz I have lots of memerobelia (I spelled that wrong)
Also I have 2 buster posey autographs a hunter pence auto graph Pablo sandavol Johnny cueto Steven Duggar the announcers and Oracle park (I got to go in the announcers booth) and I have a couple more.

Hey Zack how are you doing? My personal favorite autograph that I have even to this day after 24 years of my life. A signed baseball bat by a Seattle Mariner hall of famer Dan Wilson. I was having skull surgery in Washington State. A few players from the Mariners came and saw me and even signed a Dan Wilson bat even including aka Bone Jay Buhner and now Radio voice for the Mariners Rick Rizzs. I just looked on the computer that there will be commemorative baseballs for this year.
Zack my favorite auto graphic is I got 2 baseballs signed by Derek Jeter. I met him in person when I was walking in the Subway. He was so nice. Awesome collection of baseball things. Plus I got to meet Burnie Williams in the Museum of National History Museum in NYC. You and me have something in common we like baseball and I have collation of baseball that I have. Some of my favorite autographs… hmmm… Alan Alda Jack Lemmon. Wrote them both after my dad died and the sent me signed autographs with kind words. Alongside Woody, those were our favorite actors. Chevy Chase Bill Wyman Mark Hamill Neil Finn (Crowded House) Depeche Mode Iron Maiden Debbie Harry (Blondie) Bud Grace (Piranha Club cartoonist) and Hall of Fame Right Fielder Larry Walker (Baseball Card, signed).
My favorite autograph is a Todd Hundley signed ticket stub from the game he hit the 41st homerun to break the record for catchers at the time in '96. I was at the game as a kid so that automatically made him my favorite Mets player until the Wright/Reyes era of course. Years later I just happened to see it on eBay and I won it and I have it encased on my shelf. Probably worth nothing but I wouldn't sell it for $1000
@@zackhample I wear my vintage blue Mets signed Hundley jersey (another eBay find) to games and get lots of comments. A lot of people dog him about possible steroids but I don't know. It was the 90s, I don't really care at this point haha. I aways rep the number 9.
Cool video, Zack. These are some great pieces. The story about your dad was a blast to hear. I think my favorite autograph has to be Vladimir Guerrero. I got him to sign a ball that he hit me earlier in the day at batting practice. Not the best quality signature, but it means a lot to me.

For next Q&A: A player flips you a ball and you hand it to the kid next to you. He has clear possession, but then accidentally drops it on the field. Another player, seeing the incident, picks up a *different* ball off the field nearby, and flips it to the kid to make up for the lost ball. Then a third player picks up the original dropped ball, which you’ve had your eye on all along, and flips it to you. It would be two completely different occurrences of you getting a ball. But it would be the same ball. Do you count this as one ball or two?
Hey Zack, did you know there is a way to get a free autograph from the commissioner of MLB. All you got to do is put in the address of the building. As long as you put a stamp on the envelope, he will send you his autograph for free. It worked for me
my favorite auto is from my favorite running back Jonathan Taylor back when he played for Wisconsin (Go Badgers!) and I got it randomly in a pack which was the luckiest sports cards pack I have ever opened. Second best is I got a Piece of art signed by the greatest sports artist out there, S Preston which I got in St.Louis at the NHL all star game!
Hey Zack my favorite autograph is from 1998 Minnesota Vikings training camp and I was able to get Randy Moss's rookie auto on a pennet but this is unique because he signed it #18 which is the number he wore in the preseason but switched to 84 in the regular season

Awesome stuff, autographs with a story are better than autographs worth hundreds or thousands of dollars. My favorite autographs are a Joe Torre signed ball inscribed hof '14 and a Topps Archives baseball card of Tom Glavine #/10.
A prized autograph of mine are game-used & autographed cleats from Brad Ziegler, Oakland A's and Arizona Diamondbacks closer. I'm friends with Brad and he actually gave me the cleats after I agreed to a favorable trade in a fantasy baseball league we were in together. He ended up winning the league title and he sent me the game-used cleats that he then autographed.

To be honest I think my best autograph has to be Micheal Jordan I was so happy to get it because he is probably one of the best athletes to ever exist and I think I would never get rid of or sell it
My best autograph or at least my favorite is my signed Stephen piscotty baseball that I got signed in person after a Peoria chiefs game when he was recovering from an injury while he was playing in St. Louis. Probably my most valuable autograph is a football signed by the whole 1996 bears team I think and I actually got it at an estate sale for $25
