The 3DS seems to be in vogue all over again! Interesting to see that even though it has a huge library of games, there are also a staple of best games I often see in most people’s top 10’s. Goes to show that what is quality even amongst different people is still well recognized! Great list as expected and dare I say no surprises? Lol
Always gotta add an SMT game into an already quality 3DS library. No matter what list I see, it usually slides its way in. Great video as always Emily! Now for me to get back on my grind 😅
Strange Journey will mess you up, but it is the best SMT that all we can get. Just stick with it through intro sequence, and some damn hard bosses, but if you get in the loop, you be alright. ✌️😁
I will forever remember the 250+ hours that i gave to BOTW (100%). It’s beyond special. It’s the game that got be back into gaming in the summer of 2020. One of the reasons it is special is that It also got my non-gamer wife into gaming. It was a special thing to share
Nice list! Brings me back a bit. Definitely loved link between worlds. Also RU-vid algorithm put you in my feed. Subscribed. Look forward to seeing more of your content
The 3DS it’s by far one of my favorite portable system of all time. It reminds me a lot the Nintendo 64 and Gamecube. My top 10 are: 10. Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D 9. Super Smash Bros 3DS 8. Super Mario 3D Land 7. Luigi’s Mansion 6. Mario Kart 7 5. Star Fox 64 3D 4. The Legend Of Zelda: A link Between Worlds 3. The Legend Of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D 2. Fire Emblem Awakening 1. The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D
Hey Emily, it's so great to see your favorite 3DS games! Fantasy Life and Rune Factory 4 are also in my top 10 list of favorite games. I love chill life sims/RPGs that you can sink hundreds of hours into. I got back into gaming on the 3DS with Animal Crossing and Yo-Kai Watch, so those games are in my top 10 list too! :)
Oh nice! I've been meaning to get more into the chiller sim-type games after being introduced to Rune Factory 4 (& later Fantasy Life). There are a few I've picked up without the RPG elements like Story of Seasons that I'm hoping I'll enjoy too. One of these days I'll finally try them out 😂
I enjoy physical copies as well. I’m fortunate enough to have 95% of my childhood games and consoles. For the ones I lost I’ve been slowly collecting them. Thanks for sharing your content, you seem like a very kind and gentle person. Keep up the great topics!
Thank you so much! Oh and I'm super jealous that you had the foresight to hold onto most of you childhood games! I shared my collection with my brother and unfortunately most of our Nintendo games either got liquidated, donated, or traded in to Gamestop back in the day 😭
I am too! Although, as a kid, my idea was to save them because I thought they’d be valuable. Funny thing is I never knew that “value” was going to be sharing them with the younger generations and replaying all of my faves over and over through the years. At this rate, I’ll pass them down. I hear you on the brother thing. I did something similar with a dreamcast I picked up for $40 at toys-r-us on close out, I traded it in for an original xbox, which I still have. I have a real soft spot for gaming that has created many great memories over the years. Seeing channels like yours really brings em back.
I came across your channel by searching 3DS collections on youtube. I enjoy the casual nature of your videos as well as the fact that it's 3DS and switch focused. The 3DS is my favorite console of all time as the 3DS got me back into console gaming after being a PC gamer for a quite a while. I also find it you unique that you shoot your videos in random parts of your house. 😆 I look forward to seeing more of your content going forward.
Thank you! And yeah I go all around the house chasing wherever the best lighting or quiet setup is lol😅 But the 3DS is a great handheld system with so many great games - I'm glad you were able to get into it after PC gaming for so long!
Nice List, Here is my Top 5 favorite games that I've already played on my Nintendo 3DS: 1. Kirby Planet Robobot 2. Shantae & The Pirates Curse 3. Super Mario 3D Land 4. Shovel Knight 5. Resident Evil Revelations
Oh I feel like you can't go wrong with either choice! If you're looking for something to scratch the Animal Crossing casual vibes definitely give Fantasy Life a go. But if you're looking for more of an emotional journey that requires a bit more strategy with the combat system FE Echoes is a really rewarding experience :)
Great list, Awakening is also my very first Fire Emblem game, and it introduced me to the tactical-strategy games as well. Do you plan on playing the One Piece games on 3ds? Sadly some of them have the issue of region lock :( but i heard good things about Unlimited Cruise SP, so its on my plans for 3ds
I actually haven't looked into the other One Piece games apart from Unlimited World Red and maybe Romance Dawn if I can find a reasonably priced copy. For the region lock issue, have you looked into the custom homebrew scene much?
@@orbalology I saw a eshop trailer about Romance Dawn, seems interesting with the customization, skill tree and rpg elements! I heard there is a PSP version as well. Oh, and i have seem some stuff about the homebrews, its a good option to play the games that don't have US version like Cruise SP
Your 3ds videos caused me to get one a few months back and now my collection for it is nearly complete. Still need to pick up the Pokemon games and the two project x zone games, and then I'll have all the games I want for the system.
Great list! I think I have a lot of the same favourites especially Link Between Worlds, FE Echoes and Radiant Historia. 🥰 Theatrhythm Curtain Call and Animal Crossing are some of my other favourites! Pocket Card Jockey is also a really simple but really addictive eshop game that I put way too many hours into
Oh nice! I have Theatrhythm Curtain Call that I should get to at some point & was also hoping to snag a copy of AC New Leaf sometime soon (I've only played New Horizons but heard really good things about New Leaf). I'll also give a look at Pocket Card Jockey, thanks! 😊
So cool to see all your favorites! I’m generally not a Zelda fan but I know I’ve been doing myself a disservice not picking up ALBW, so much rave reviews and game is still pretty cheap even for the non Nintendo selects version. I think I’m sold lol :)
Oh I think you'll appreciate the puzzle mechanics for ALBW! The merge into wall feature is really pretty cool and there's something about the top-down Zelda titles that offer a nice balance of exploration and fun gameplay. I hope you end up enjoying it! 😄
omg yes same about albw. Brought me back into gaming and was the first game in a while that made me feel like a kid playing a brand new game again, magical!
Thanks! I really like how relaxing the 3DS Kirby games are. So many of the 2D platformers feel like they place super high stakes on precision and/or speed and can get overly stressful at times 😅 Oh and I would love to see what some of your favorite 3DS games are! Lists like these are always fun :)
I love my 3DS and the library of games I had for it. I hope you enjoy your time with the mainline Shin Megan’s Tensei games. I really loved the ones for the 3DS, the 4 duology were some of my favorite gaming experiences.
I keep hearing a lot of amazing things about SMT4 & can't wait to get to it! It'll definitely be the next SMT game I'll pick up after finishing Devil Survivor 2 Recordbreaker.
Radiant Historia is such a great JRPG! I would love for Atlus to bring it back in some sort of fashion. Not necessarily with the same characters/story but a spiritual successor would be really cool.
A fantastic list that is fairly close to my own. If I may, I'd like to interject that if you're somebody who enjoys DLC, many of these games do offer it ( e.g., Fire Emblem, Radiant Historia, etc) and even if the game is bought physically, the DLC will no longer be available after March of next year. I'm totally a completionist so getting all DLC is essential for me.
I usually just buy DLC if there's a lot of new extra content I want to play through for favorite games. I'm in the process of buying up a lot of the FE Echoes DLC - there's quite a lot 😅 I didn't realize Radiant Historia had extra DLC so I'll need to look into that as well.
Fire emblem is a fantastic entry to the SRPG genre. I'm glad to hear your praise for Echoes, it's one that I also missed a few years back. Though it did just move to the top of my 3DS wish list. That and a XL 😎
Great list, and I think we share out number 1. If you haven't played yet I highly recommend Bravely Default, and Dragon Quest 8. Also SMT 4 which i know you haven't played.
My favorite games I've played on 3DS is the whole Etrian Odyssey series. Another favorite of mine is Ever Oasis, such a hidden gem imo. I also loved Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King as well as Monster Hunter Stories. Like you I have a huge backlog of games I haven't played yet, so I'm sure there are more that I'll love.
Oh those are all titles on my list! I need to figure out which ones to start after I finish up SMT Devil Survivor 2. I've been thinking Ever Oasis though DQ VIII looks great as well.
I really need to check out Fantasy Life! Looks like it would be my relaxing equivalent of the Animal Crossing / Stardew Valley type of games, just without the time restriction / time limit aspect haha. Assuming it doesn't have that, right? Great list overall! Of course I would have some different picks since I havent played a lot of 3DS games, but definitely looking to try out some of those you mentioned (like Kirby, never played a Kirby game before, and SMT Devil Survivor)!
Oh Fantasy Life doesn't have any strict time limits. You're at leisure to go about your day as you like - very similar to AC & Stardew Valley in many ways. But I highly recommend either Kirby Triple Deluxe or Planet Robobot for that charming & casual 2D platformer, and SMT Devil Survivor is honestly just so cool. There's lots of great content in all of these games!
wow you have a copy of Fantsy life, I tried to get one but it got crazy expensive. I have mixed feelings with Radian Historia, some how the back and forth mechanic wore me out and the last stretch felt a bit longer that it should have. but the play mechanics were a lot of fun. The Shin Megami games are so cool but also crazy expensive if you go for physical 😮💨 Lovely video as always, 🤜
Solid list all around. Shadows of Valentia is one of my favorite FE games too. Is there any games you're going to pickup digitally before the end of the month?
I'm actually delaying my digital decisions until it gets closer to next year. I heard that if you linked your Switch to your 3DS account you can continue adding funds through there until the 3DS eshop officially closes.
Oof it really is going to be. But all these systems have their collecting cycles, so eventually the prices will subside at some point I suspect. We're just seeing the 3DS cycle hitting us much quicker than expected with this unprecedented eshop closer news unfortunately.
@@orbalology luckily it looks like you already have lots of the heavy hitters that are going to shoot up. There's still some original DS games I want but every time I check the prices are higher.
I've been running into similar issues with the DS titles too. I'm also worried about running into fake copies for the popular games. It's all been tricky to navigate at times.
I bought all the SMT games & radiant Historia digitally just to play them & because of budget constraints but I intend to buy them physically too before they sky rocket in price even more. I can’t wait to play them. I love starting new rpgs
Nice top! And yes. You're kinda predictable, specially with number one! I thought "number one must be ALBW, I would put my life on the line for that!" Jajajaja. So good you didn't kill me XP I'm glad you mentioned pokemon X 😅 as weird as i sounds, i consider it the biggest upgrade between gens, in terms of graphics. It feels weird OoT isn't here. But I agree Majora's mask definitely feels more unique nowadays. I expected echoes to rank high. but for some reason I thought DQVIII would be mentioned top 😅 Hopefully you can do this for other platforms as well! I can't make a top yet, u need to play so many more games. 😢
Haha I actually still haven't completed OOT. I put it down I want to say ~ 70% in and haven't felt compelled to pick it back up to finish it yet 😅 And I haven't gotten around to DQVIII yet either! It's high up on my list for JRPGs I want to start though. And the plan is to make more of these types of videos for other platforms eventually. I'll likely do the Switch sometime in the next few months :)
No Mario and Luigi games 😭 but other than that it’s a very solid list I Really want to try radiant historia I wish some of these games get a switch port of some kind
I'll confess that I haven't gotten around to the Mario & Luigi RPG games yet. I have Dream Team so someday I'll finally get around to playing more of it! It would be a shame if a lot of these games never get ported/remastered to modern systems in the future. Especially titles like Radiant Historia which I still think is one of the best JRPGs on the system. (And I hope you're able to try it someday! the gameplay, story, and characters are all top notch).
Great games. I've played most of them but I didn't know Radiant Historia, so I am eager to play It. It's my favorite style of game. Also I have great memories playing Kingdom Hearts 3D, Its one of the best in the whole Kingdom Hearts series. I would just add Ocarina of Time, It is awesome.
i'm a big fan of rune factory and radiant historia! Rune factory 4 on the 3ds i still like a lot even compared to the remaster because i just love how compact the 3ds version feels. There are still several 3ds games i still want, but they are a bit expensive these days. i'd love to get my hands on etrian odyssey and bravely default though.
Yeah I couldn't get into the Rune Factory 4 Special on the Switch either. There's something about the 3DS version that had a bit more charm or something - I can't quite put my finger on why 😅 And I hope you manage for find good prices on both of those games sometime soon! Those two are definitely unique experiences that you really can't find anywhere else except on the 3DS.
Thanks for sharing your top 10 list. If you're interested in Shin Megami Tensei, be sure to check out SMT IV. It's definitely the best game on the 3DS in my opinion, one of the best mainline SMT games (mainline SMT is the best part of the series IMO), and one of my favorite games of all time. All of the SMT games on the 3DS are must-plays to me (especially SMT IV and SMT Strange Journey Redux) and it's a shame it's becoming very expensive to get copies of them. The Strange Journey and Devil Survivor games on the 3DS are also modified forms of games originally released on the DS and those original versions are worth checking out as well. There are some interesting differences between those versions, including changes to the story and alternate endings in some cases. Some of the games on your top 10 list would be on mine as well, such as Devil Survivor Overclocked, A Link Between Worlds, Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia, and Fire Emblem Awakening. Radiant Historia is a game that has been highly recommended to me, but I haven't yet played it largely because of the price it goes for these days. The DS version of the game is a bit more affordable, so maybe I'll check that one out first.
I'm really excited to dive more into the SMT games! Oh and Radiant Historia on the original DS I've heard is great! The 3DS version added an extra side route which was just ok imo & there were some graphical/voice acting upgrades as well. But the bulk of the game should still be in the original version so if you didn't want to go the digital 3DS route the regular DS game should be just fine to try out!
@@orbalology SMT is probably my biggest obsession in gaming and I'd suggest going as far as trying to play every game in the series available in English in some form if you can. If you are interested in mainline SMT, I'd highly recommend getting SMT III: Nocturne. It's one of the best games in the series as well as being another personal favorite of mine and it is still available for cheap. You can get a new copy of the HD remaster that came out for the PS4 and the Switch last year as well as of the original PS2 release in the $20-$30 range each. Though I should probably also give a heads-up that Nocturne is one of the most difficult games if not the most difficult game in the series, so keep that in mind as well.
Oh I have Nocturne on the Switch. I have a tendency to pick up a lot of games that interest me (especially if they're heavily discounted) but I can be slow to get around to them 😅 I was thinking for the SMT games I'll try to tackle them in this order: Devil Survivor 1 & 2 SMTIV & Apocalypse Nocturne Strange Journey Redux SMTV Soul Hackers 3DS Though I may end up shuffling things around depending on which system I feel up to at a given time 😅
@@orbalology That seems like a good order to approach those games in. Playing SMT IV before Nocturne is probably a good idea because it is an easier game than Nocturne and it will get you used to the way mainline SMT plays. Playing Nocturne before SMT V is also a good idea because SMT V is a sequel to the canon ending of Nocturne, which is the True Demon Ending. Getting that ending in Nocturne is much more difficult than the others (especially because the final boss on that route is a hidden superboss) but it is very much worth it. Regarding SMT V, I'd also suggest getting the Return of the True Demon DLC for it because it adds a lot of bosses by recreating the sidequest to defeat all of the fiends from Nocturne that is required for the True Demon Ending and then adds the Demi-Fiend, the protagonist from Nocturne, as the final fiend to fight. The Demi-Fiend is one of the most brutal bosses in SMT, but getting your entire level 99 party taken out in a single round of combat by him is part of the full SMT V experience, LOL! You also get something incredibly good if you beat him, so it is worth trying.
Great list! I've been pretty negligent of the 3DS over the years, and I owe it to my friend for a lot of my now rare titles. Given I used to buy them just trusting his recommendations. Eventually! I got to play some of them, and I think my top 10 would be something like: 10. Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition 9. Star Fox 64 3D 8. Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D 7. Project X Zone 6. Castlevania Lords of Shadow: Mirror of Fate 5. Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance 4. Kid Icarus: Uprising 3. Fire Emblem Awakening 2. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D 1. Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS(put an insane amount of time into this online, and mained Lucina & Palutena)
Oh a very interesting list, with a good mix of variety! I recently picked up one of these titles actually so it'll be in my pick-up video next week 😂 Really glad I was able to get a copy because it seem right up my alley.
If you don't have it or haven't play it. The legend of Zelda Ocarina of time on the 3d is fantastic. The 3d is great on it also. I recommend it. I know it seems to be everyone's favorite. But it's very good.
I made it up to ~70% of OOT & set it down while I got distracted with something else a few years ago. I did enjoy what I played but I think I was struggling a bit with some of the pacing & some of controls on the 3DS. I'm hoping to finally complete it one of these days though!
I really need to try out the Fire Emblem games on 3DS as I'm interested in them even more after hearing your thoughts on them. Personally I have Kirby Planet Robobot in my top 10. Kid Icurus: Uprising, Metriod: Samus Returns, and Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World are also up there, possibly top 10 but if not then honorable mention. A dark horse/hidden gem for me is actually Hey! Pikmin. I know a lot of people didn't like it but I did actually enjoy my time with it.
Oh I hope you give the Fire Emblem games a go on the 3DS! I found them to be really quite special :) I recently acquired Kirby Planet Robobot and enjoyed the first couple of levels so far! I did find the mecha mode a bit overpowered but I'm excited to get a bit further & see how things progress. Samus Returns is also really cool, I'm about halfway so far I think. And I'll have to give Hey! Pikmin a closer look. I may have intially overlooked it because of the mixed reviews but maybe not having prior exposure to the Pikmin franchise will help me appreciate it more? 😂
@@orbalology Have a suggestion as to which Fire Emblem game to try first on 3DS? And ya, I originally over looked Hey! Pikmin due to the reviews as well. Kid Icarus is worth looking into, it does have a very weird/unique controls but if you can get used to it it is also a very a good game.
I feel like it's hard to go wrong with FE Awakening. Even though Echoes is my favorite it does change up the classic formula a little bit with the story progression so if you end up liking Awakening I think Echoes will be a great one to go to next. I also picked up Kid Icarus Uprising a couple months ago and excited to try it out eventually! Hoping the controls/learning curb won't be too frustrating haha.
The Kirby games on the 3DS are solid - I'm glad I managed to scoop them up. I still need to play through Extra Epic Yarn but I really enjoyed the other two.
I actually have this for both the 3DS and Switch. One of the reasons why I've put it off is because I still can't decide which version to start first 😅
Im really slow on 3ds games cause Im mainly switch collector , since money is not infinite I must stick to switch but Im getting some 3ds games and this is helping me.
Glad this list was helpful for you!! There's a lot of great games that unfortunately may get locked in this system and never remastered or ported over :(
I have DQ VIII fairly high up on my priority list! I never played the original PS2 release and I kept hearing really great things about this DQ entry in particular. I just need to set aside a good chunk of time, like many JRPGs 😅
Silver was my first Pokemon game and I basically skipped the entire DS era so I unfortunately missed out on Soul Silver/ Heart Gold. But I would really love to return to 2nd Gen and Soul Silver I think would be perfect way to do that. I'll need to find a repo cart or something since the original copies are currently out of my price range 😅
@@orbalology red was my first :) I totally agree soulsilver would be the perfect game to see 2nd gen in its max potential you won’t be disappointed. i went through the same problem when trying to buy it myself and wish I held onto mine to give to you instead of selling it.. i wonder what your team would be
@@dirtywookie9868 I wonder too haha. I replayed Silver so many times with all sorts of team combinations. My favorite starter is Cyndaquil but my favorite pokemon is Vulpix/Ninetales so I always felt torn when choosing my fire pokemon lineup lol.
@@orbalology really?? No love for totodile haha.. I can’t blame your hesitation between cyndaquil and vulpix tho.. If it means anything Id say go with vulpix. It’s definitely your vibe.. just don’t spam will o wisp on me pls x) my favorite Pokémon is haunter by the way
Fantasy life is the best game on the 3ds...that rune factory 4, ever oasis and new leaf of course. Shame we dont have a port on the switch of Fantasy life.
It's really strange that Fantasy Life hasn't been considered for a Switch port yet. Maybe someday it'll happen, but I would love to maybe see a sequel too or something as well.
@orbalology yeah they put out a game called snack world and it didn't do well at all. So any chance of Fantasy life is prob 0%. They seem to only focus on over seas only now sadly.
Looks like I’ve only beaten 9 3DS games so here’s my top 9: 9. New Super Mario Bros 2 8. Kingdom Hearts DDD 7. Fire Emblem Awakening 6. Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask 5. Bravely Default 4. Radiant Historia 3. Luigi’s Mansion 2. Super Mario 3D Land 1. A Link Between Worlds
Oh I've heard great things about Code of Princess! I've been considering picking it up digitally on the Switch since physical copies for both the 3DS & Switch are pretty expensive nowadays 😢
Thank you for the super interesting video!😊 I had never bothered to give Radiant Historia another look before, but you really sold me on it!!😳🤔💪🏻 Some games just don't do the best job at marketing themselves, you know?🥲
