@TMPanos96 hes cute. What's the big deal? Besides, they are talking about Marlon Brando, not Stanley. No one said Stanely the book character was hot lol Incels will always be mad lol
TMPanos96 not exactly high status. Marlon Brando’s looks, physique, and dominating presence channeled through the character of Stanley is what turns a woman on. A man could be a serial killer and still be sought after by many woman if he posses such characteristics. Look at how they hyper-sexualized Ted Bundy.
@@bryanthayer1795 if he was dominating but ugly... I dont think women would be admiring him. We just find marlon brando sexy, and seeing him get all angry is a turn on lol
He is more brooding bad boy kind of guy which I understand is what a lot of people like but it’s not mine. I like actors like Jimmy Stewart and Cary Grant. Errol Flynn. Gary cooper.
Blanche: "Here I am all freshly bathed and scented and feeling like a brand new human being." Stanley: "Oh that's good." LOL the tone of sarcasm in Marlon's voice is spot-on! You didn't hear that too often in movies before the 1950s.
lmfao that was hilarious! I love all of Stanley's lines and reactions I think Marlon was quite GORGEOUS and funny also I just noticed that sexy seductive music again 😂😳
@@randywhite3947Brad Pitt wishes he were Marlon Brando, that's why he always eats everything in movies. He's just a copycat. And a dunce. He could never be Brando
One of my favorite movies ever, Marlon and Vivien were absolutely amazing in their roles, the scenes are so memorable and the movie itself is just amazing, good story and characters
I think he's perfect for the role as Stanley. I feel as if Stanley's looks--much like Brando's--has a lot to do with why Stella is so in love with him and keeps coming back to him. It's that sexy, raw, manliness that allows her to be so attracted to him and not leave him. I think that says a lot for how Williams wanted the audience to feel about Stanley as well. It makes the experience much more frustrating and tense.
THAT'S how I FEEL too! 😱 Stanley was meant to be SOO unbelieveably ATTRACTIVE and it makes it hard for Stella and Blanche to even FOCUS around the man 😂🔥😏🥵😳
There's a clip on youtube of Williams talking about when he first met Brando before the play was released. Apparently Brando was a day late and showed up and fixed his toilet and then read for the part and he was flabbergasted and said he'd never seen such a reading in his life. He instantly knew he was Stanley.
@@user5362 that's freakin AMAZING 😩 I read that as well somewhere! 😳 he also added that Marlon WAS the most GORGEOUS man that he had EVER seen in his life 😍 and I was like SAME 🥵🔥🥵I AGREE 😆
I have to say, when I started watching this movie, I was afraid that Marlon's insane looks would hold him back. I completely take it back. The scene where he advances towards Blanche was so frightening, I couldn't breathe.
@@sarahbartlett1196 he probably would, would still be the youngest in his category as the youngest currently is Adrian broody at 29 and he was 27, even though timothee chalamet should have won for call me by your name at 22
How America did not recognize their greatest ever Artist with an Oscar for that Ground breaking Acting i will never know, 1951 just could not comprehend Brando i suppose....
If the academy had rightfully given Bogart his Oscar for Casablanca in 1942 then they wouldn’t have needed to give him a career Oscar in 1951 when Brando should have won
ohhhhh the sarcasm... 'ohh that's good ',,,, he couldn't give a shit,,, brando was so physically attractive and watchable,, I'm mesmerised whenever I watch him,,even in his later interviews,, when his beauty outwardly has faded,, he's a very interesting man and still beautiful
Our English teacher once told us that Brando was a miscast for this role - she said that is performance was flawless but that his good looks - and magnetic persona made him the lead role - he stole every scene he was in when in fact the play evolved around Blanche and her dysfunctional personality
If Stanley had been anything less than incredibly good looking he would have been intolerable. With Brando as the lead it brings about an uncomfortable feeling of attraction that is at the core of the film for me. If the film is meant to be more about Blanche, well yes he was miscast lol
I really feel Williams wrote the Character that way. The scene where he hits her and then she comes walking back down the stairs to him in a trance tells the entire story with regard to that aspect. I think it was very intentional. :)
Marlon Brando was the perfect choice for Stanley. He acted the part really well and really got into character. Though tbh, from reading the play I didn't imagine Stanley to be as good looking as Brando is!
Rape is a very serious topic and is nothing to joke about....however, all the girls who are saying "I'd let him rape me" are obviously just making a joke about the movie. If a girl lets a man rape her it is no longer considered rape and is consensual. They're just making a statement about how good looking Marlon Brando was back in the 50's. I see what you're saying though because there are some abusive relationships out there.
i appreciate you pointing this out. as a woman, i can admit no-problem that dominance can be very very sexy in a man. but actually being abused non-consensually is never a turn-on, it's terrifying and traumatic. the great thing about film is it offers a fantasy where you can both appreciate how gorgeous Brando was and find his entire presence alluring and sexy without actually finding misogyny, violence and abuse in real life attractive.
He's absolutely great in this movie! Plays the role of Stanley perfectly. Exactly how I imagined him when I read the play. However, I still struggle to understand what he's saying half the time! He keeps mumbling and slurring his words together
What fundamentally makes streetcar such a good film is the writing by Williams. The Characters are 'full' - they are not one dimensional, good or bad. Stanley is boorish, but also sensitive, violent but tender. Likewise Blanche on one hand could be seen as fragile & caring but in another light as neurotic & narcissistic. - Add to this the quality of the actors & director & you have 'great' film. Even if you don't like it its hard to fault on a technical or artistic level.
Marlon Brando and Paul Newman are my top faves. I also have a soft spot for Henry Fonda and James Stuart. Henry and James are the guys you bring home to mom and dad to make them happy; ie the lovable dork (I know, Henry, was a jerk in real life, but you get the picture). Marlon and Paul are the men you bring home to piss your parents off.
Wtf are you even talking about? Marlon Brando never used drugs or drunk and if he did drink it was on special occasions. Where are you getting your information?
I about straight up....not gonna lie here FAINTED when Stanley first appeared onscreen and when he saw Blanche in the apartment 😳🔥🥵😏 I've NEVER seen a MORE HAWTER man in my life! 🔥🥵🔥🥵🔥🥵🔥🥵🔥🥵
I am curious what he thought when Stanley first met her, it was a long pause and the way he stopped and just gazed before speaking. That moment what was he thinking 🤨
lol! I'd LOVE to know that too! 😳 but when Blanche paused after Stanley asked oh! you're Stella's sistah? I felt THAT 😂 I'd be thinking like DAMN he's the HOTTEST man EVER! and I'd be blushing up a storm 😳🔥🥵😏
I'm a movie "addict"; mainly because I love watching an actor hone his craft. After watching this, I have to add that Brando let some darkness in in order to act like this.
That's true. In the Person to Person video his voice is soft and delicate. He also didn't want to be like his dad. When he chews out is staff in The Ugly American he's doing his dad. His sister had to leave the set because he was so terrifyingly real.
Blanche: Excuse me while I put on my pretty new dress! Stanley: Go ahead. She asks him to leave... I know it's just a movie but, My God, that would've been the last thing I would've asked him...
Stanley is real. He's good and bad like the director Elia Kazan said. The characters here are not all good or all bad. They're a mixture. People recognize real people they've known in these characters.
Seems like there is always something being broken when Stanley is around. In that scene, he wears what he calls his "honeymoon pajamas" - and there is broken glass as he attempts to 'interfere' with Blanche. I recall Stella telling Blanche that on her honeymoon night with Stanley - he smashed the light bulb.
