Awesome! So much good stuff! Thanks for the tips! I also like a lot that you include some video of yourself - makes it a lot more personal and connecting!
Suddenly I need sketchup for work, your videos are of great help as I need to refresh my skills. Nice and simple tips yet adds great value for any sketchup user. Thanks for posting!
I like it when it goes directly to the purpose. Thanks a lot, I knew 8/10 and still really enjoyed watching because it is short and effective. Maybe even a little too quick.
I am an architect.... And i find your videos are very helpful. It really save me a lots of time when working with sketch up. Thanks and keep up the good work😊
Another stellar how-to video. Thanks Justin, I had forgotten about some of the tips you've covered here. My big weakness is that I just don't invest the time to setup shortcut keys even though I know, from previous experience with other CAD apps, how they can save a lot of modeling time. My bad.
One small complaint: The first tips, you did not specify details about keyboard shortcuts or even hint at where to find them. However, the component vs group and how to implement advanced component functionality was excellent. Kudos, you've got one of the BEST RU-vid channels on SketchUp. Deep Bow oƒ gratitude.
Lol - that would be a whole video just by itself, but you're right, I could have at least given an example. Thanks very much for the feedback and glad you liked it! :)
Yes Justin - I totally understand about the "...whole video by itself..." I had already been modding the shortcuts so I know where to find them, this was just feedback for the true beginners. Thanks for receiving my critique with the good natured intent it was sent with. I'm a keyboard shortcut freak myself. I'm still tweaking my own customizations to increase speed, especially for the most used tools. Do you have, or have planned, a keyboard shortcut specific vid? And advanced component specific Vid? Once again, thanks.
thanks man, i only learned 1 new thing but it was totally worth it !! ive been using SU for about 4 years now and never knew about equal spacing objects with the divide key...NO MORE DIVIDING IN MY HEAD FOR ME XD
So many videos about how components are important but everyone is confused of how to unlink one or more of the components - the magical "Make Unique" command.
You were really quick in explaining all those important tips, particularly the tips for copying. Can you please define them in more detail for the beginners SketchUP users?
@@Thesketchupessentials Thank for the quick reply. Since I have just started to learn sketch up a couple of weeks ago I found the idea of copying a single component multiple time inspiring and difficult at the same time Since I couldn't grab the idea while you were explaining it in the video. Anyways I learnt it by searching RU-vid. I am also eager to learn the method of copying a component and placing them multiple time around 360 degree. I am a finance professional with passion for woodworking. I recently decided to offer custom designed furniture and opted to learn designing on sketch up. Best Regards
Rather than using shift you can actually use the arrow keys on the keyboard to lock which direction you move or rotate something- up arrow locks it to the blue axis; left arrow to the green; right arrow to the red; and down arrow to the perpendicular. Also helpful for when trying to rotate items hit the arrow keys before clicking on an object and you can quickly rotate objects along whichever axis you want.
Just wanted to say thanks for these vids. They have convinced me to go ahead and spring for the cost of Pro. I have looked at many other modeling programs, but the lack of good training kept me from buying. I do have a question about the multiple copies. What is the exact syntax you use? My problem may be that I am still on the free version, but still curious. Thanks again.
I have one question. I want to save my work which is done with scenes and to be added to Behance profile. Can u do a video about it . How to save the file and move to Behance or any Photofolio profile
Nice Video. Many times I watch your videos I found myself not able to follow you up especially when you use short cuts. Please next time you use short-cuts, kindly show the key combination on screen while talking. Thanks again.
Hey Justin, have you made any mechanical design models (related to mechanical engineering) ? If you know how to make some, please do and post tutorials on it. :)
Can you show me how to find the position and size formulas of dynamic component attributes on X Y AND Z axis? I keep messing up the formula and it messes up my model.
Well you told me the tips but I have no idea how to do any of it. For instance I can get it to divide and put in points but not add in the copies like it did for you.
Do you ever do work for someone else? I need someone to render something basic for a prototype to be sent out for 3D printing. It's a flat object someone wanted me to do for them.
@@Thesketchupessentials I found windows on the materials section. I was looking for doors. I'm building a accoustical enclosure and it has three double leaf doors. I ended up drawing doors via rectangles. I'm in trial mode. Trying to get my boss buy the pro edition
