Give "Extremity - Coffin Birth" and "Spectral Voice - Eroded Corridors of Unbeing" a chance speaking about the newer ones. Also try Edge of Sanity, the album "The Spectral Sorrows". This is a criminally underrated Swedish band. It was Dan Swanö's best moment. "Moontower" is a ridiculously great album also (this one is kinda prog DM and was released under Dan Swanö name). And "Hidden History of the Human Race" by Blood Incantation.
In no particular order: Death - Individual Thought Patterns Cannibal Corpse - Vile Tomb Mold - Manor of Infinite Forms Gorguts - Colored Sands Bolt Thrower - Those Once Loyal Obituary - Cause of Death Cryptopsy - None So Vile Entombed - Left Hand Path Witch Vomit - Buried Deep in a Bottomless Grave Death - Spiritual Healing
For a second, I thought that you were going to say Deicide for the #1 slot...until I noticed your tshirt and then 1 second later you announced it as Death. Deicide is most definitely in my top 20 for sure.
From 1. to 20.: Morbid Angel - Altars of Madness Entombed - Left Hand Path Death - Leprosy Deicide - Deicide Obituary - Cause of Death Carcass - Necroticism - Descanting the Insalubrious Death - Human Bolt Thrower - War Master Dismember - Like an ever flowing stream Cannibal Corpse - Tomb of the Mutilated Autopsy - Mental Funeral Suffocation - Effigy of the Forgotten Pestilence - Testimony of the Ancients Napalm Death - Utopia Banished Entombed - Clandestine Pungent Stench - Been caught buttering Massacre - From Beyond Nocturnus - The Key Malevolent Creation - The ten commandments Morbid Angel - Covenant

That Altars of Madness is a good Album that defined the DM genre, ok, but no filler? Lord of all fevers and plague, Bleed for the devil, Blasphemy and Evil spells are what I call filler. I bought the album with such enthusiasm when I read on many website that it is a must have... I was so disappointed when I heard it the first time. Still now, I find it just average, way behind Blessed are the sick, Formulas and Covenant.
@@zschokks5583 Lord of All Fevers and Plagues and Evil Spells are some of my favorite songs from that album and i consistently listen to those songs when I want to listen to Morbid Angel. I disagree, I think Alters of Madness is flawless and easily my second or third favorite album from them, behind Formulas and maybe Covenant. Chapel of Ghouls is easily one of the best songs they ever made. Maze of Torment, Visions From the Dark Side, Immortal Rites, and Damnation are also classics
Nice to see newer DM bands on the list. I only recently got into death metal via thrash and old school black metal and loving it. So many great albums and bands are out there! My top 5 DM would be Obituary, Autopsy, Cerebral Rot, Incantation, outre-tomb.
Grave - Into the Grave Pan Thy Monium - Dawn of Dreams (maybe it's avant garde death metal and weird af, but I love this album) Morgoth - Cursed Rivers Of Nihil - Where Owls Know My Name Decapitated - Anticult Suffocation - Effigy of the Forgotten Vader - Ultinate Incantation Massacra - From Beyond Death - Spiritual Healing Obituary - Cause of Death Deicide - Deicide Morbid Angel - Altars of Madness In Flames - The Jester Race

Yes, quite good taste. Similar to my choice in some way, here is my alltime Top 20 List: 1) Morbid Angel - Blessed are the sick 2) Bolt Thrower - The IVth Crusade 3) Deicide - Deicide 4) Behemoth - Demigod 5) Bloodbath - Nightmares made flesh 6) Dying Fetus - Reign supreme 7) Asphyx - Deathhammer 8) Obscura - Omnivium 9) Obituary - Cause of Death 10) Vital Remains - Dechristianize 11) Amorphis - Tales from the thousand lakes 12) Dismember - Like an everflowing stream 13) Rivers of Nihil - Where Owls know my name 14) Death - Human 15) Immolation - Atonement 16) Entombed - Left Hand Path 17) Six Feet Under - Maximum violence 18) God Dethroned - The grand grimoire 19) Nile - In their darkened shrines 20) Necrophobic - Death to all
Obituary: Slowly We Rot/Frozen In Time Bolt Thrower: The Merecnary Morbid Angel: Domination Cannibal Corpse: Gore Obsessed Emtombed: Left Hand Path Amon Amarth: Surtur Rising Opeth is my favorite band but I don't know if this counts: STILL LIFE Crytopsy: Blasphemy Made Flesh Autopsy: Severed Survial Death: Leprosy Suffocation: Effigy Of The Forgotten Incantation: Blasphemy/Diabolical Conquest Deicide: Overtures Of Blasphemy There's probably more death is my favorite genre so I love it all so probably some hot takes on this but respect my opinion please
Atheist pioneered technical/progressive death metal - listen to the title track Piece of Time from 1989. Suffocation more pioneered what I'd call brutal/slam death metal. Great list, especially from top 6 up (almost exactly the same as me). Except I'd have Deicide's Legion or Carcass's Symphonies of Sickness (more DM than grind) instead of CC's The Bleeding in top 3 & have MA's Altars of Madness as number 1. I'd also include Seven Churches somewhere but hey, respect your opinion \m/
My top 20 (not in order): Autopsy - Mental Funeral Asphyx - Last One On Earth Atheist - Unquestionable Presence Baphomet - The Dead Shall Inherit Bolt Thrower - Realm of Chaos Brutality - Screams of Anguish Cancer - To The Gory End Cannibal Corpse - Butchered At Birth Carcass - Necroticism Cryptopsy - None So Vile Death - Human Deicide - Deicide Gorguts - Considered Dead Immolation - Dawn of Possession Malevolent Creation - The Ten Commandments Massacre - From Beyond Morbid Angel - Altars of Madness Obituary - Slowly We Rot Pestilence - Consuming Impulse Suffocation - Effigy of The Forgotten
Really different from mine, but still great picks here Obituary, Gorguts, Tomb Mold, Asphyx... I know, we could argue on my Blackened Death choices here, Angelcorpse, Pseudogod, Ritualization etc... I've been listening to Metal since '86 so I was around when thrash was at its peak and I was there when Death Metal arose. I was into Ozzy and Maiden then all the thrash, and just when I thought it couldn't get heavier, it just kept doing it. Celtic Frost, Kreator, Sepultura, heavier, then Death, Obituary, Corpse and Morbid Angel, even Heavier, then Entombed, I missed Left Hand Path and heard Clandestine first and it hits like a TRUCK, HITTING ANOTHER TRUCK! So fucking heavy, chaotic, riffs forever, buzzsaw guitars, rotten angushed vocals, creepy solos, atmospheric shit everywhere, its my fave. But the point is, after all this time, How did I Miss Pestilence?!? Holy fucking Shit! That album smokes, I gotta by it. Thanks Questy!
Awesome list! I'll have to check out some of the bands that I haven't listened to yet. Also, excellent to see Scream Bloody Gore be shown the love it deserves! Few people rank it on top of Death's discography, which is understandable because that discography is amazing, but I'm glad you did. A few albums I love are by bands who then moved in sometimes wildly different directions, but still have amazing DM debuts: Amorphis' Karelian Isthmus, Darkthrone's Soulside Journey and Hypocrisy's first two, Penetralia and Osculum Obscenum.

Suffocation Pioneered Slamming brutal death metal and influenced the sub genre of deathcore. They also invented the slam riff and did the first metal breakdowns. They are one of the most important metal bands of all time in my opinion.
My top Death Metal Albums are Death - Spiritual Healing Morbid Angel - Formulas Fatal To The Flesh Suffocation - Effigy Of The Forgotten Obituary - Cause Of Death Malevolent Creation - Stillborn Cannibal Corpse - Vile Cancer - To The Gory End Possessed - Seven Churches Bolt Thrower - IVTH Crusade Carcass - Reek Of Putrefaction DECEASED - Blueprints Of Madness Immolation - Failures For Gods Vader - Back To The Blind Entombed - Clandestine There are a lot of other good ones but these are my favorites. I love death metal
Altars of Madness (Hell, Morbid Angel riffs/solos in general) has this chaos unleashing within the soloing that is unparalleled in its atmosphere on any other metal albums. The only other album I can think of like this is Suffocations "Effigy of the Forgotten" for the vocals and slam riffs.
For me the revelation of death metal in 1989 that was away ahead of it's time, is Bmot Thrower's Realm of Chaos withit's ultra down tuned brutality, that morbid angel used 4 years later in Covenant
Like an ever-flowing stream is the best album of all time after that you can put altars of Madness and sorry but it's true look it up there is no competition for that album
01. Grave - You'll Never See 02. Deicide - Deicide 03. Cannibal Corpse - Bloodthirst 04. Six Feet Under - Haunted 05. Torture Killer - For Maggots to Devour 06. The Black Dahlia Murder - Miasma 07. Nile - Black Seeds Of Vengeance 19. Entombed - Left Hand Path 20. Kataklysm - Serenity In Fire
Good list, can't fault it. I think where I would have chosen different stuff is only because I don't know all the bands here. Infester's only album I definitely would have chosen. But anyone who loves the Fourth Crusade as much as I do is on the right track for sure. Liked, Subscribed.
This is awesomme, since im really into some of death metal right now to add up to my list of listenable metal albums., thanks for this video and help me to get some of ideas of death metal bands to listen too., 😁 👍 💪 🤘
I would say it is difficult to say which album was the first "technical" DM album. This term has also been used for Atheist before. But it is true that Suffocation was a new level of technicality. But also of brutality. I just can say, that when it came out we never heard something like this before (excpet the Human Waste EP of course). But the term "technical Death Metal" is definetively older.
This is a great list you have and has a lot of similarities to mine. I didn't abide by the rule of one album per band. Also, I really can only put forth 18 albums that really stuck out to me. Here they are: 1. Testimony of the Ancients - Pestilence 2. Left Hand Path - Entombed 3. Scream Bloody Gore - Death 4. Failures For Gods - Immolation 5. Symbolic - Death 6. The Erosion of Sanity - Gorguts 7. Suffocation - Suffocation 8. Majesty and Decay - Immolation 9. Cause of Death - Obituary 10. Till Death Do Us Part - Deicide 11. Bolt Thrower and Death as the top two? I see you are a man of good taste :) Dismember had totally escaped my notice til I saw someone comment about Death, Bolt Thrower and Dismember and knew if it was bundled with them I had to check them out.

I do not like Death Metal much but could not stop listening to Shadow of Intent album Melancholy. I know you are all mentioning the best albums you all have heard and I have heard some Death Metal (new) and like some songs but the album I mention captivated me in so many ways musically and lyrically. Thank you for all the bands mentioned, definitely going to give them all a try.
Very nice list. Lots of similarities to my list. I gotta say my my favorite death metal album of all time is Cannibal Corpse The Bleeding. Death Scream Bloody Gore is definitely way up there. It's definitely the most important death metal album. Cool that you chose Pestilence Testimony of the Ancients rather than Consuming Impulse and let Asphyx Last One on Earth be Martin van Drunen's best work\m/ But not taking away Consuming Impulse for being a timeless classic
Y'all might not consider these all pure death metal. But I'm not really the hugest fan of the subgenre. So these are just some albums that I thoroughly enjoy, which I would consider death metal (in no specific order) Revocation- Empire of the obscene Dissection- Reinkaos Death- Sound of Perseverance Bloodbath- The Fathomless Mastery At the Gates- Slaughter of the Soul Revocation- The Outer Ones Revocation- Deathless Six Feet Under- Haunted Revocation- Great is Our Sin

@@metalheadindian9174 I don't why it's difficult to me put Gojira or Opeth on the list but I really like these albuns too but they're kinda difficult to put in a "music genre" kinda list 'cause these bands are like Sepultura: has that own thing, of course on a heavy and extreme side of music. Really good list mate!
Cool list. I'll have to check out those albums I'm unfamiliar with. As some commenters mentioned, I'd gladly put some early Sepultura on the list. And if you don't know them yet, Vader is hands down on the best no-non-sense death metal bands of all time. Their entire discography is solid.
I'm not really that into death metal but I've listened to Bolt Thrower since their first album. Just a cool sound, cool tempo, not evil at all. Basically a war historian band. Thanks for the list.

suffocation were considered the pioneers of slam. by the time they released EOTF, the brutal death metal style was already a bit too defined by bands like mortician, though they were mostly demos at that point. its arguable to say whether or not suffocation are "poineers" of brutal death metal, but i think when you said that that you were talking about slamming brutal death metal (like devourment)
My top 5 albums of the past 10 years (including some very recent ones!) as of today. This will probably have changed by tomorrow!... 1. Dead Congregation - Promulgation Of The Fall (2014) - 40 minutes of Greek mentalism! 2. Chainsword - Blightmarch (2021) - Like a Polish Bolt Thrower! 3. Teitanblood - Death (2014) - This is just fucking mental! Just under an hour of utter brutality followed by 9 and a bit minutes of equally terrifying chanting, moaning and occasional clanking! 4. Ossuary - Addicted To Human Flesh (2021) - This album does contain brief moments of melody - you have been warned! 5. Ophiocordyceps - Delusional Infestation of Mutated Pathogens (2019) - Brutal death/slam - the last track, C35H48N8O11S, should be this year's Christmas no.1! By the way, the Ophiocordyceps album includes a track called 'Irreversible Acid Variation Of The Atmospheric Composition And Production Of Corrosive Anhydrides For The Human Respiratory System'. Try getting that to rhyme with something! ;)
And btw, Suffocation is often regarded as the godfather of Brutal Death Metal, don't know if it created Tech Death as well, gotta check it out, but it's definitely a technical band.

Same here, I'm not a biggest fan of Obscura either, it's technically a very impressive album but I find all of the tracks on it to be very unmemorable. The Erosion of Sanity is my absolute favorite followed by the debut - not very much into their later stuffs.
havent listened to much *pure* death metal but out of the 3 albums i've complety listened to i'd rank them as this: 1. Scream Bloody Gore 2. Seven Churches 3. Tomb of the Mutilated (1 is great, 2 is good, and 3 is just alright imo, im more into high pitched death metal lyrics :)
If you're into higher death metal vocals check out later Death and "Slaughter of the Soul" by At the Gates, assuming you haven't already gotten around to those
Damn, we have very similar tastes. My list is almost identical! Except you are missing Incantation - Onward to Golgotha Sepultura - Arise and a lesser known but POWERFUL AND DARK release Cemetary - An Evil Shade of Grey

Deathspell Omega-Abscission If you enjoy Gorguts then you will absolutely adore this masterpiece. The entire album"Paracletus" is a otherworldly masterpiece.
I may sound "ordinary" but my favorite death metal band... is Death! "Leprosy", "Spiritual Healing" and "Human" are albums that I still listen to. I would put as next "Gothic" from Paradise Lost, which I purchased the day it was released, and I believe that changed the course of metal like no other album!
