my gamechanger was definitely gel as well! also I think another non-product gamechanger was to not worry as much about my hair, sometimes going «product free», not fussing too much and not getting down when my curls don’t look perfect
Soaking wet hair to distribute the products and scrunching the crunch were my mind-blowing tips. Your makeup, both coloring and application, is perfect!
@@hannekevanp3779 caffeine is stimulating. Many stimulating ingredient are in scalp care specially like curlsmith and bounce curl detox mask. It betters the circulation and when the circulation is better that blood is pumping oxygen and nutrients which leads to better hair growth etc. but never heard of a caffeine rinse. I just know caffeine is good for stimulating circulation
I was so lucky because I found you. I've never heard of styling curls and all that ... but you made me try things out. For a very long time I just saw my hair as a bird's nest. Because of you I started to take care of my curls a lot. I just wanted you to know: you are such an amazing person. (I'm sorry for a mistake that may have crept in. I'm not that good at English grammar yet.)
My best improvements have come from learning proper conditioning for my hair, styling with quick sections using a brush, and accepting my hair simply breaks the rules. My fine, low density hair likes more moisture than protein and strong hold gel rather than foam, which seems completely counterintuitive!
My biggest curly hair game changer was...👕 Tee Shirt plopping. It seriously defines my curls before I get to diffusing it (a few hours later). I feel like my gel really gets time to penetrate the hair.
Great video. My hair is a lot like yours and I have also found that trial and error has been the most important thing for me to figure out what works best for me. I really wanted to compliment you on the fact that you are always careful to say that these are techniques that work for you but that everyone has different preferences and needs. Other curly hair influencers lead you to believe that the techniques they recommend are the very best techniques... and then I try them out and they absolutely don't work for me at all! So I just wanted to let you know that I appreciate you recognizing that 1 size does not fit all and encouraging people to keep trying until they find what they need! Thanks for the great tips!
I just wanted to say that you have made more sense to me than all the thousands of videos I have watched on RU-vid! I have fine 2b,c, maybe 3a hair depending on who knows what factors. Mostly like yours. I don’t know what my hair is but it’s fine and soft. I knew as soon as I watched one of your videos that you were perfectly exact in how I should care for my curls. I washed my hair every day and blow dried it and either straightened it or used a curling iron. I just assumed my hair couldn’t grow until I saw a lady say she didn’t know all of her life that she had naturally curly hair. My exact thoughts were “what kind of idiot didn’t know they had curly hair?” I soon realized I was one of them. I am 58. I learned at 56 that I had natural curls! Ha! I am so thankful and loving your videos because they ring perfectly true for me and I’ve only yet to watch 3 because I just discovered them. My hair is so much curly following your methods! I purchased a face steamer today for my 2nd, 3rd, and so on days. That thing is amazing on curls!
The biggest game changer for my fine 3a curls has been weekly clarifying followed by a hair masque-my hair is prone to oil and product buildup which makes my curls go limp. I shampoo every four days and alternate “lowpoo” with clarifying shampoo. Also, diffusing gives me so much more bounce and volume. Curl refreshing works best for me on damp hair rather than saturating it with water. And lastly, I go for products that aren’t too heavy for my hair-Kevin Murphy is my fave, and less is more.
This video is great and it's made me reflect on my curly hair journey. My game changers have been weekly deep conditioning, finding an amazing stylist who knows how to cut and style my hair and not touching my hair until it's completely dry.
My game changers were using more protein products, not mixing different brands of products together, and air drying my hair with root clips instead of diffusing. Diffusing my hair does give me more volume then air drying and takes a lot less time to dry, but I lose waaaay more curl definition, no matter what diffusing techniques I use and how gentle I am on my hair. My hair just seems to hate heat! Although I have to wait hours to air dry my curls are really defined with a tight hold for days 😊
Aphogee 2 step protein treatment monthly was my game changer. I had been using Olaplex with definite improvements, but my wavy hair was still really undefined. Then I did one deep protein treatment and my hair felt and looked incredible. My hair loves protein. Another game changer- double gel. My first gel has some kind of protein in it, and then I add a top layer of a very hard-hold gel like Harry’s or Got2be.
The styling routine is SO true and so difficult to figure out sometimes! Figuring that out and introducing protein consistently has definitely made a huge difference for me as well
My biggest game changers were that my hair loves protein and my hair does better styled wet than damp. I tried every which way to make damp stying work and my hair just always looked stringy. I also found that micro-plopping instead of a fully plopping my hair was better. Like you said, trial and error.
I'm trying micro plopping, so far I'm kinda failing at everything but it's fun trying and there is always the ponytail. I will be so happy when I get a game changer
My game changer was using curlsmith’s bond curl rehab salve, a much needed haircut, and wet styling my hair. My hair’s not completely healthy again but it’s on its way.
Styling with a denman brush was my game changer. I brush my hair upside down with it in the shower. I get much more consistent results and products gets distributed much more evenly.
My biggest game changer was finding your routine. Always used gel but your routine helped the most. 2 things, the wet hair and the blow drying routine have defined my curls the most. Thank you 😊
My biggest game changers were t shirt plopping and using more mousse than I thought I needed. I squirted out what I thought was too much of the cake one in a rush, was thinking it was going to be a crunchy mess but it all scrunched in nicely and my curly sections weren't knotting up, my waves were looking defined, was looking amazing despite still being in the transition phase!
Shampoo brush has been a game-changer! I have high density hair and I work out a lot. I cannot believe how long I've been a hold out for this product. So far, I'm using less product and getting my scalp cleaner than without one. Next up: dyson blow dryer. My hair takes forever to dry.
My game changer was definitely adding a protein mask once a month. Ecoslay’s Matcha Boost is a fab product. Like you, I was pretty nervous about trying it but wow, what a difference it made - brilliant curl and definition. It’s taken me nearly a year of experimenting with products and reading the labels to start to understand what my hair likes and dislikes. It’s a whole new world that’s for sure!
Your product recommendations have made a crazy difference in my curls. I've been loving the Noughty leave in and gel. I used to get so much static and my curls would only last a few hours. Now I can go at least 3 days with some refreshing. Love your videos thanks for everything 💕
Yes! I'm so with you. Swear by gel for my curls. In winter, I mix it with just a little amount of styling mousse. I also change my care products a bit, avoiding to many humectants. The constant change of humectants attracting water outside and the dry heat inside dryes my hair out to much and I get friss.
My game changer was using the products called curl Smith. They are vegan based and expensive but help me especially the conditioner and cream styling products 💖
People say that people with natural curly hair are lucky I agree. I have long and blonde natural curly hair it also takes me about an hour to wash and fully style my hair. Curlsmith products despite expensive are brilliant, any people with curly hair I would highly recommend this product. ❤️😊
my game changer was to stop trying so hard. When I was first trying to get my curl back following a routine more strictly was fine because the damage was bad but after a while you need to let your hair go and do it’s natural thing
Games changers for me were like you said gel and diffusing. I learned that gel goes on second NOT first and to apply it to more damp hair rather than just shy of dripping that I apply leave in or stylers. Also a big one was when to diffuse. Struggled with the timing. I learned that I can diffuse wet if I hover around my head far away with low heat till a cast forms. Then I can get a little closer and use cool air around the roots until they are much more dry then I can pixie diffuse.
My hair works well with a good combo of moisture and protein, but using the DevaCurl Gel with water one day on dry hair, when the frizz just would just not go away, was a life changer. My hair LOVES protein but then I went crazy and you can use too much! Finding the right combo is pretty difficult, and changes depending on weather and hair issues. I keep trying different things daily! Thank you for your cheery videos!
I am so happy I found your videos. My curls love protein too, but i am a new girl in these materia, so i am very happy that you will make a video! I think my biggest game changer are your tips! Thank you😘
My biggest curly girl changer was my denman brush , satin bonnet and also my fav diffuser 😍 ...I have 2c-3a hair type ..sometimes my hair near neck doesn't define that well but my front check which is 3a defines so beautifully ❤
My hair type is 2c-3a and well and I've heard good things about the satin bonnet but I'm curious, is it comfortable to sleep with? It seems like it would feel weird. I have a satin pillowcase but it only helps a little bit.
@@ireijane94 trust me its a game changer girl. Once you Start wearing you automatically get comfortable...yes initial days you will feel weird but it is a game changer for Me.
I'll put it in my amazon cart and think about it (or buy it by "accident" when I go to purchase something else). What diffuser do you use? I know I need a new one but there are just so many stinkin options!
Definitely like the Noughty Products and Black Orchid diffuser. I'm trying your techniques and seeing improvements from the witch's brew that I did have. Your curls are a goal to work toward as I add conditioning every shampoo now.
I really love your videos and your attitude. You are so sweet and lovely soul. I am girl with big volume and thick curly hair. My whole life till now was about trying to tame it (by smoothing, ironing, in general denying my curl definition) and I was hydrating like crazy while having drier and drier results. While being on seaside holiday, my step daughter told me "Veronika, your hair is like a cotton candy". Which really opened my eyes... Of course I do not want a cotton candy hair, I want healthy, juicy, bouncy hair 🙂Now I am absorbing all that magic about protein, silk fabrics, avoidance of normal towels, styling and well, I am just three washes from realizing that I should support my curls, not to avoid them, having just 3 new products and different conditioner and literally everybody is telling me now "whoa, I love your new hair". Funny thing is that everybody is asking "Did you curl your hair, was it time consuming to style like that"? And all I can answer is just "No, even more simple, in fact, because this is my natural hair. I just stopped brushing it dry, use different fabrics to touch my hair, use bit different products than before (bought cowash and styling cream with protein and changed conditioner for different one) and I am letting my hair live their own life". Minimum work, maximum results. Practically just experimenting now with wet brushing process because if the last brushing is made during wash off conditioning phase, my curls are big and chunky. If I brush during leave-in, I get afro with pencil diameter of the curls. I suppose I prefer chunky. Well, I will continue and let us see 🙂
Sheamoisture silicone free miracle styler leave-in treatment, then Sheamoisture high porosity styling gel, followed with Aunt Jackie's flaxseed don't shrink gel to lock it all in was my holy grail trio for my waist length curls. Unfortunately, step 2 (the high porosity gel) has been discontinued and I haven't found anything nearly as good to replace that step yet. The hunt continues!
My biggest difficulty with my hair since I've moved to the UK is my scalp - I get a lot of buildup and shampoo makes my scalp really dry and ichy. It is always dreadful to buy new products
My hair looks like your before which doesnt look bad tbh. I do have very similar hair type .Just new to this I've been straightening for years. I I'm going to grow my hair for a while too. Your curls look very shiny. I just started rice water may do gelatin treatment soon! I might get a hood dryer. I thought I hate gels( I have the crunchy feel) but they make better ones these days. And satin cap is good for not ruining your curls at night. I wash/ cowash every 4 days or so. Great video.
I love the way you say water. Love your videos and your curls are amazing! Thank you for all your videos! My biggest game changer was figuring out my hair hates glycerin!
Hi! I have curls like yours and I’ve never tried gel before! Creams never seem to hold my hair and moose does for a bit but every one I’ve tried seems to dry them out especially at the ends. I’m interested in trying gel and I know you’ve mentioned the Giovanni gel and the Noughty gel before and I was wondering which one you thought was easier to use or could be used as a single styling product! Thank you xo!
I used gel and mousse years ago but hated the crunchy texture. These days they make way better gels. I also know they used to have harsher alcohol than they did today. I also realize that wet vs damp hair does give better curl clumps.
I have found that even scrunching out the crunch leaves some crunch. Its a long time trying to crunch it out.... I’m new to this curly girl Journey. Sadly I’m fighting with fizz still and trying to get my hair just healthy. How long does it take you to scrunch out the gel?
What would you recommend for getting the hair towards the roots wavy/curly? Not necessarily the roots themselves, but for my wavy/curly hair... it's long (maybe mid back length or a little longer) and layered, I use gels but it's difficult to get the hair that's at my neck upward to curl with the rest besides my bangs area 🥺 I haven't tried to finger coil the top, that's an option for sure but any advice? 👀 I appreciate your videos always!! 😊
Hi Hannah, someone suggested in the comments if you could please do a review of the curl company products. I use these regularly and I am really interested to know your opinion on them. They have a gel but I use the mousse for definition. I have the gel in the cupboard which I haven’t tried out yet. Their mousse is the best one I’ve used so far compared to other brands and is a regular staple for me. Have you tried this brand before? They also have curl creams, shampoos/conditioners and reviving sprays. P.s I’ve been watching your channel for the past year and a half and I think you are great 🥰❤️, Jessica x
I love your videos! They're so helpful 😌 Why did you stop following CGM, and in what ways do you deviate from it? How do you find that makes a difference for you? Thanks!!
Hey! So glad I’ve helped! So I have followed a “modified” version the whole time and still do, but recently it was made clear there’s no such thing as a modified version (more info in another comment I answered below) xx
Hello.....can u please tell me what ur DIY protein recipe is for a treatment? I think my hair is in need of a protein treatment. I have wavy hair (prob 2b) but it's gray...well salt and pepper....and I'm having trouble with curl definition lately so I think a protein treatment might help? Thanks for ur help!
Great tips, thanks so much. I am also a gel kinda gal but can you tell me if all of the gels you list are curly girl friendly. I try to be so good months washing but find it hard to get a good curly girl friendly gel, that gives good hold 🤔
I use all curly hair products on my wavy hair. Don't let labels limit you. I prefer the curl products to wavy products on my hair. I get much curlier, defined results using them, as long as they aren't so heavy they weigh my hair down. Experiment to see what you like. I use and do everything hanzcurls does to get my best results. Good luck.
Scrunching doesn’t do anything at all when I put on gel and it has dried, adding water has no effect either and I have pretty curly hair myself ….I even try to add serum and it still feels like hard glue AND this is with the Aussie Gel exactly as you’re advertising good luck people…
Sounds like you may need to use a bit less gel, and try adding a bit more curl cream or leave in conditioner underneath to prevent getting as crunchy a cast
This is the first time I've seen your videos and I recently got a perm so I'm trying to figure out what's best for my hair like you said but I was curious is your hair naturally curly or do you have a perm?
Any suggestions I have long thick wavy and curly hair but it's semi fine and it just frizzes so much on top with all these new hairs I'm going to a Ouidad hairdresser who uses all products that are under the curly girl umbrella and yet it still frizzs so what can I do with it
Uncle Funky's Daughter Curly Magic is the last product I apply to my hair. It doesn't matter what I apply prior, as long as I finish with my Magic gel my curls are perfect every time. And it's not drying at all.
Thanks for the vid. Which part(s) of the CGM in particular do you not follow anymore? I find I don't stick to it 100%, just use some of the techniques.
Recently Lorraine Massey (founder of curly girl method) said there is no such thing as a modified version of the method, so if you even use a sulphate free shampoo or a hairbrush you’re not following it! She’d prefer people not to say “modified cg” if they don’t follow it completely. I don’t cowash, and I use water-soluble silicones and drying alcohols sometimes. And I sometimes use a brush. All considered not CG!
