I Recently watched Nayakan (1987) with English Subtitles And I loved it. The Cinematography, Background Music, Ofcourse Performances, And that Godfather Vibe I Just love it✨

The performance of Kamal sir in the last 15 mins of nayagan stayed with me for a long time. There are no long breath taking dialogue there is no dramatic acting,no punch lines no action sequences there is only kamal sirs magic ❤️❤️❤️ and I would add ambe Shivam to this list .

For me Virumaandi should me the top of my list. I watched and was shocked and amazed at what i saw. I went to see it everyday that week. Masterpiece.

An absolutely amazing list!!!! The list of characters he's played is just absolutely never-ending!!!! Here's my personal favourites:-(P.S:- I'm a huge fan of Kamal-Crazy Mohan combo) 1. Panchathandhiram 2. Vasool Raja MBBS 3. Micheal Madana Kamarajan 4. Singaravelan 5. Avvai Shanmugi (But hats off for including Varumayin Niram Sigappu, cuz the topics that this film speaks stands relevant even today!!!!💯) Man, but the list is seriously never-ending!!!! Can keep adding to this list, so many masterpieces by this one man!!!

I can think of another heartbreaking scene than the ring scene in Aboorva Sagodharargal. The scene in the same movie where his mother says "Maybe if the boy was a dwarf like my son, you have a right to be angry" to the circus manager and the look of sheer heartbreak and betrayal in Appu's face is so sad every time you see it.

GOAT itself is an understatement..

Anbe Sivam - this along with Interstellar had THE greatest positive impact in me n shaped me up the person that I am today. Nayagan - enough has been said abt this by enough ppl. Hey Ram - greatest KH directorial. The political commentary on this is 🔥🔥🔥 Mahanathi - GUT WRENCHING, realised I'm a coward bcoz i couldn't go back n watch this movie again Kuruthi Punal - The only HOLLYWOODesque genre made in Tamil cinema ever, probably. Thevar Magan - KH's finest as a writer. I keep comparing the father son conversation in this to the one in Godfather between Brando and Al Pacino. Thevar Magan takes the moral high ground between the two. Go watch n compare them both. Guna - The scene where he cries bcoz they shot the Kuruvi 😭😭😭 Virumandi - more than one way, the real comeback of Aandavar after a slump. Dragged into unnecessary controversies at time of release Aboorva Sagodharargal - this and Baatcha are the templates for Commercial/Masala movies of Tamil cinema. And KH's acting 🔥🔥 Moondram Pirai - the climax scene.. bruh 🙄🙄🙄 Honourable mentions: Indian, Michael Madana Kamarajan, Panchathanthiram, Aalavandhan, Varumayin Niram Sigappu, 16 Vayadhinile.

1.virumaandi- the screenplay was at its best...we couldn't imagine a flim like this without the goat 2.hey ram - the best attempt of all time.The story, screenplay, acting and mainly writing of this flim is just awesome..when I first read the movie description in Amazon prime..i was mind blown but after I was the flim it was at the god level...only this man can do this 3. michael madana kamarajan- it says that comedy is a serious business.this flim is best at the characterisation of every single one involved 4. mahanadhi -as he said it breaks my heart everytime but even i watch it ..I love the performance and the writing of the flim 5.last but the best UTTAMAVILLAIN -the most underrated movie till now For me,it is a emotional roller coaster...how can anyone write or act like this anymore 😭🛐..he is really immortal... Etcc...........

Mahanathi - Such a wonderful raw performance by Kamal sir , the screenplay and writing and story line is unimaginable, very heart melting and raw story , it remains updated and fresh eventhough the movie released 27 years back . Anbe Sivam - It is good feel movie with full and full of curiosity in watching and admiring Kamal sir's acting like a true accident faced victim , and philosophy in story about love is god is telling in such a brilliant screenplay will be very intersting GOAT . Also the dialogues will be amazing. Virumandi - Completely dramatically different style of story telling with Rashmon effect screenplay, actually this is the film which Rashmon effect is applied brilliantly and that too with kamal sir's perfomance it's a big treat for us and all cinema lovers , a crime with 2 point of view in which story tellers as protagonist and antoganist makes the audience to eagerly follow the movie with full intrest Hey Ram - The movie which can't make me believe till now , about the way the film was made , yes the kind of story which connects the frictional concept in historical events , what a brilliance and creation , and also the frictional concepts on the movie connects in the historical events for example , few days before Mahatma Gandhi's assassination, the killer's fire spot was planned behind Gandhi and at that time somehow it was damaged and the plan was dropped by the killer . This is a true incident, by the creativity of kamal sir , the concept was made as imaginational frictional concept in the movie , by the lead role on the movie sakit ram , who came before courtesy team and damaged the cot , because of that reason, courtesy planned to kill Gandhi by shooting on chest , next the slipper of Ghandhi ji was missing in the history , in the film frictional concept potraying , that was took and kept hidden by the sakit ram role in the movie , like this more amazing facts , and wonderful detailing , acting performance by Kamal sir all makes me to see the film on repeated mode , also the screenplay ,. Colour tone and even small sound engineering works on hey Ram, virumandi kinda films makes us to see with full intrest .

Swathi Mutyam is another amazing Kamal Hassan movie!!!!

Kamal Hassan is pioneer of Indian cinema He is king of dialects… He can act in multiple roles in same film and the best example is mmkr. All 4 in same getup but differentiate each character by his amazing acting Panchathanthiram was the ideal dark comedy movie ever done in Indian cinema His dedication is in different level

My list - Hey Ram (a 3 and a half hour bloody long film went like a snap. Such an engaging screenplay and epic characterisation of the character of saket ram) Virumandi (one of the best use of the rashomon effect. This is my personal favourite of all the other and i personally have seen this film more than 15-20 times) Aalavandhan (crazy character of villain and the first time I saw reel life gta kind of scenes in a film.) Panchathanthiram ( very innovative aspects of filmmaking can be found in this film. Like a song playing in reverse,etc) Viswaroopam (only the first film of the series) Utthama villain (idk as to why so many people hate it but i just loved the theatre experience it gave me personally and also made me very emotional at the end)

I completely resonate with your list, the only 2 movies I'd add are Punnagai Mannan and Moondram Pirai, But with Aandavar's body of work, it's really hard to just choose 5. May be 25 would do a little bit more justice, to be perfectly honest.

Can you make a list of top 50 Kamal Hassan films…cuz making a short list feels unjustified to the ocean of work this man has done…so many gems ..his work will truly stand the test of time like Nadigar thilagam….

Well Kamal Hassan what to say, we Tamilians in the 80s grew up watching his and Rajnikanth's films. My top pick are 1. Salangai Oli (without any doubt - the pathos of a disillusioned dancer). 2. Mounram Pirai (the last few minutes he conveyed the essence of the movie). 3. Devar Magar (how can you miss that - when he wrote the screen play and how relevant is it. 4. 16 Vayadinile - (the world of bharatiraja is incomplete without this classic) 5. Ambe Sivam - (making most of it and giving back to the society in his little way without any form of qualms). Few more Mahanathi, Valve Mayam, Nammawar, Sivapu rojakkal, ek Duje ke liye or Maro charitira, Unnal Mudiyum Thambi, vettaiyadu Velaiyadu and of course Kalathur Kannama. The list goes on.

Good show bro and you killed it with your own assessment. .. I watched all the above movies on numerous occasions and could not agree less. Of course, we may have a few other movies to add on, but Top 5 was impossible, and you did a good job. The fact is Kamal probably already have superb 5 movies even before he reached 1980 🙏

It’s tough for me to keep it at 5….. Kuruthipunal, Hey Ram, Alavandhan, Virumandi, Mahanadhi, Salangai Oli, Sathya, Nayakan, Devar Magan, Aborva Sagothargal and list goes on. Bt here is the fun fact, I have not seen most of the above mentioned movies more than 2x (the most) because it hits me so hard that I end up breaking down real bad when I watched those films. There is one Kamala Hasan movie no one is talking about is Unnal Mudiyum Thambi. One movie that motivated me to love environment and nature... That scene of Gardner is my all time favorite.

Raunaq, when you mentioned about the thrillers in the beginning, should have referred 'Chanakya' acted by Kamal. It was way ahead of its time and all this macho stuff doesn't even come close to the intelligence for the character at that time. I would way that you should have added 'Pesum Padam', I don't think anyone other than kamal would have done justice to that character. For me, Nayagan, Pesum Padam, Varumaiyin Niram Sivappu, Salangai Oli, Mahanadhi, Raja Parvai , and there is more but its hard to say top 5 b/c he had so many great movies.

Michael Madana Kamarajan an evergreen movie. Not in many top Kamal movie lists for many, but for me easily in my lifetime favourite movies list, because there is no movie like MMKR (1990). I agree with you're list as well Raunaq, all the 5 movies r incredible except Nammavar. *Mahanadhi,* hard to watch again. *Apoorva Sagodharargal,* a lifetime favourite for many. *Nayagan,* arguably the most talked about role of Kamal. *Varumaiyin niram Sivappu,* a must watch movie, on unemployment as cinematic reality, sridevi & Kamal conversation outside the door (latchiyangal soru poduvathilai), unforgettable. *Nammavar,* maybe the weakest of the 5 but as u mentioned Nagesh acting was unbelievable & the Karan & Kamal confrontation at the start was memorable.
