Intro: What is the difference between pop and power?
The difference between power and pop hasn’t always been defined, but I think the definition is clear now. Pop is the speed at which the ball comes off the paddle with little to no swing. Power is the speed of the ball coming off the paddle with a big swing like a serve, overhead, groundstroke, or swinging volley. Some high pop paddles are also power paddles but not all.
I have been enjoying paddles with pop since the end of 2023. I used to not like them as much but as my control has gotten better, I like the advantage that a poppier paddle can give you at the net.
