Another day, another week, another...Mountaineer finding episode? The team is surprised one morning to find that the red Mountaineer has once again appeared, sitting right where they found it the first time nearly two years ago. Once investigating, they see it looks different, much newer than the one they're come to know. Is this a sick joke someone's playing on them? Or is something else at play here?

Taking it back a few days, the team checks the VIN number of the old car again to compare it to the new one, and make an impossible discovery.

I’ve got an interesting theory. Remember in season one when they told John Doe about the mountaineer he asked them to specify which one. Maybe this could have been something he was talking about. This has to be. This is also the second piece of history repeating itself when someone has died. First Deb with the emulator safe, now John Doe with the mountaineer.

Which considering Deb's ability to predict very specific dates may not be so weird. Interestingly, vultures are also a symbol of rebirth and there was this nice, shiny Mountaineer...

Those weird documents you found Sam and Woods dated before they were born You should check the contents of the car. Maybe it is the same contents as the day Wes was killed!

Well, each car has a few locations where VIN codes can be, like the doors or the inside glove box. This might be part of the fleet of syntech vehicles but has had the VIN number by the windshield replaced so that the cars are all considered the "same" by someone who just glances at this VIN location

This is insane! Only thing I could think of is one of them has a spoofed vin number. Like car thieves try to cover up the vin with a different vin number already in the system of the same type of car so they can’t be easily traced as stolen maybe? But it having the same exact code is insane. Even if one of their vins was stolen, it having the same unlock code is too much of a coincidence to be a coincidence. Not to mention it happens to be in the same exact spot. I suppose much more bizarre things have happened in the world though.

According to Google, no two cars built within 30 years of each other can have the same VIN. So as long as these two cars were made within 30+ years of each other then it's possible. BUT, the Mercury Mountaineer was offered for 14 model years which doesn't give them near enough time to repeat.

I personally would look in the glove box to see if there is any papers work that is stating that the mountaineer is matts or anything relating to Deb's death, syntec, or project 863 altogether. If you don't find anything, just look in the car itself and figure out something from there.

Mercury manufactured Mountaineers from 1996 to 2010, Therefore it could be possible this car could be from 28 years old to 12 years old. I would try to find out the exact age of it. Could've been Wesley's car and he could've had 2 mountaineers since it is very likely people have multiple cars in their lifetime or we can take it straight to the paranormal

If you recall we found out in previous videos that the red Mercury mountaineer was part of a fleet of syntec company vehicles that were all identical. Even so the VIN numbers must be unique to each car so even if this is part of that fleet, it’s impossible to have it have the same VIN

I’ve got a good idea of why there is an exact replica of the mountaineer. If Wes was Debs lover and she killed him right there in that parking spot, then since she was with syntec maybe before she killed him got all the info off his car. So she waited, sitting there in the replica for the people she knew was going to kill her, so she could go like her lover Wes

I feel like season 4 is going back to its mystery roots like how seasons 0 and one were so mysterious and clue-based. the action and drama of seasons two and three were also interesting but having more mystery back with this one is as good as it gets everyone's theory brains going and looking for anything that could be aa lead, as well as watching the background for anything that looks out of place. you've got my curiosity and my brain going hopefully any theories I come up with will be good or useful.

Firstly, an amazing episode as usual. So excited for this series. As others have mentioned, John Doe said about multiple Mountaineers and he also had that theory about the keys, the fact he had the same one as the team. We never found out what that theory was. Is it to do with time travel? There are two of everything?

I’m so confused??? I would say yes you’re legally allowed to look through it due to the fact that it’s the same VIN and that VIN is registered to you. Also how the heck?? This is starting to hurt my brain.

It is physically impossible for two cars to have the same vin number so this is rarer than a total solar eclipse.

Really great episode! If I remember correctly, it wasn’t long after the mountaineer was found last time that they had gotten the footage that they were being watched and recorded. Might want to keep an eye out around the studio for someone watching.
