As a labor and delivery nurse, I always tell my patients “I trust you and your body more than any monitor” and I’m sorry your nurse didn’t advocate for you! I hope you can heal from this traumatic experience and bond with your daughter ❤

Thank you for this!! My nurse checked me and I was 4cm she walked out of the room after placing me on my left side and 15 mins later I pushed the call light. When she came in I told her I NEED to push!! Actually my body was pushing on it’s on. She looked at me like I was crazy and said “there’s no way! I just checked you?!” I had to please ask her to. Sure enough I was 10cm and +2!!

I had a crazy birth story stuck in rural Alaska with no one to give me a c-section when I needed one. After 4 days of misery 5ft me gave birth to a 19lb almost 24in baby boy BUT this makes my story look easy! I am so sorry that so many failed you. ❤ That's alot of trauma than can really take a toll on us. Please consider some trauma therapy.❤ I had 2 more babies 1 was 2 hours of labor the 2nd was 15 minutes of labor born at home. My very first contraction on the 15min labor I felt the urge to push. This is the toughest birth story I have ever heard. Thank you for your braveness in sharing so happy to see you all home together.❤❤❤ My theory for my additional 2 super easy births is everything got so stretched put on my first birth, they just literally fell out😉

I was born at 29 weeks 40 years ago. My mother had a heart attack and her lungs filled with fluid while trying to keep me inside of her. For 2 weeks, she gasped for every breath. She was always my biggest warrior. I lost her in 2021 to Alzheimer's. I will always be grateful for her and how much she loved and fought for my life. Your daughter will feel the same way about you. Sara, I think this is malpractice. A missed diagnosis of staph infection (the system sepsis of staph must have a source) led to that unnecessary laparoscopic operation. The abdominal procedure induced your pre-term labour. The doctors and nurses were not ready/prepared for your labour. All there could have been avoided.

The blood culture didn’t come back positive until the day AFTER surgery. They knew she had an infection but the only apparent source they found at the time were symptoms of appendicitis. They talked through the alternatives with her before surgery, so obviously they weren’t sure of appendicitis (if they were sure they wouldn’t give CT as an alternative). However, what happened after they got the blood culture back, and especially the fact that they missed her being in labour (!!) (and didn’t even check her) sounds like something just Was not done right…

The amount of healthcare professionals who only treat or diagnose solely based on straight data from tests is quite large. It really shows how naive the healthcare system has become. It's unfortunate that wisdom is exiting healthcare in times where its needed most. I'm sorry you had to go through that, it's definitely not a situation that had to escalate like that.

@@joshwfliesSo your suggestion is that we just ignore the tests and diagnostics and do what exactly? That data has saved FAR more lives that have ever been lost because of it.
@joshwflies
@joshwflies 2 месяца назад
@@Blake_the_Drake unfortunately you missed the point of the comment. The point was that there are far too many physicians that ONLY rely on raw data. The data is meant to help lead to a diagnosis not fully spell it out. Let me ask you this. If a person presets to the ED with symptoms of a kidney stone, but blood tests don’t suggest a kidney stone. Does the doctor rule out a kidney stone? I would hope not, I would hope the doctor does a little more due diligence and order a CT scan that would most likely reveal a kidney stone. You see raw data is helpful but does not paint the entire picture. A wise doctor would not only take the raw data into consideration but would also investigate further to ensure their hypothesis is correct. Especially if both the mother’s and child’s health is at risk. I urge you to reevaluate both comments and go back and listen the details Sara told. It paints a different picture than what you are trying to argue.
@poetryqn
@poetryqn Месяц назад
@@Blake_the_Drake Data is a *tool*. Good medical care interprets data, it does not defer to data. Please don't use black and white thinking. From the patient's perspective, her experience was denied, nothing was explained, and she was dismissed out of hand because they mishandled the situation by entirely ignoring what was happening right in front of them. The second doctor took in ALL the information - not just the machine, but what he could see with his own eyes and physical examination. Doctors aren't gods. They. make mistakes. I want the ones who can see in 360 degrees, look at everything and most of all LISTEN acutely to the person they are treating. Thank heavens the second medical team did.

I had a very similar experience at 27 weeks. My baby was stillborn, but they didn't know that, I kept being sent home and ended up having an unmedicated Vag birth on a remote military base where I was the only woman in the room and the transition stag - where the feet first emerged, lasted 5 hours. I had the need to recount my story in detail for a long time afterwards. 5 years later, I had a C-section for a breach, and another 5 years later, a V-back at Home. Both kids are now in their 30s and turned out wonderful! But when your video started I had major flash backs to that experience and understand your need to share your experience. No, that's not the answer. As someone that works in medicine, you go with the presentation that is in front of you. Things change instantly. What doc 1 saw may have been 1000% different than what doc 2 saw. This is the problem, every little thing is "sue! sue! sue!", and then people wonder why there is critically low staffing levels at the hospital, that nurses and doctors are leaving the field of bedside care in droves. Medicine is a science, nothing is exact.

As soon as you said John was your calm, and you started to tear up, is when your story sent me on an emotional rollercoaster. I can't even imagine the pain and fear you went through. It seems silly to compare, or think ones labor is worse or better that another's, because we all deserve to feel validated for what we experience during L&D. I thought my daughter's pregnancy and labor were crazy, but this really is so terrifying. For months, women imagine how their birth stories will go and hoping it will play out how we would want it to go. I would say this teeters on medical neglect and could (and should) be seen through legally. Not just for your sake, but for future women that will be treated by those specific providers. We live in a country that should offer better medical care and coverage, and to not put us in mountains of debt, but that's not the case for so many people.

I am so damn proud of your mom fighting for you and advocating for you. You’re so incredibly brave. And I am so sorry this happened to you. My brother almost died in the hospital when he was around 14/15. And it was finally one Indian doctor that came in, who was literally like : “what the fuck is going on here, get this boy in emergency surgery NOW” I also believe strongly during the height of COVID when visitors were not allowed, more people died because of that. No body had any advocate!! Just a cold white room with most nurses and doctors not caring. I unfortunately don’t trust the medical field whatsoever anymore. But so glad your baby girl is healthy. ❤❤

As someone that also experienced a traumatic birth experience you’re a true fighter, when you say so much pain, I know it’s an ungodly otherworldly pain akin to torture, if someone has given me a gun I would have ended it all so to hear you just want to survive, you are a true fighter in every sense of the word. It’s now two and a half years since that birth experience and I’m only just moving past what I went through. Take time, find someone to talk to, I booked a consultation with the surgeon that did my emergency c section which really helped me to understand what happened to me. The surgeon also recommended that I have a planned c section next time so I don’t have to relive what happened, this might also be a good solution for you too. Wishing you peace and love xxx

god i'm so glad both you and baby survived and recovered, this has to be one of the scariest stories i've ever heard in my life. and to think the careless OB and nurses that were "treating" you that night face zero consequences for causing you to unnecessarily go through this experience. they could've given you a C-section long before the birth canal entrance with pain meds but they just ignored your contractions. unconscionable.

Our son was born at 28 weeks 4 days at 2 lbs 11 oz and was in the NICU for 83 days. One night, my wife had unusual pain in the middle of the night and was spotting. We went to emergency immediately and they said that we weren't going home until our son was born. They gave steroids to help his lungs develop enough to be born and he was born 2 days later. The doctors suspected that it was an infection of the fluid and a detached placenta. The nurses and doctors at the NICU were the absolute best and helped us through the entire process including teaching us how to feed through a tube and all the usual parental things. Those 83 days were the most stressful and we were in survival mode just doing and not thinking. We were still in survival mode for the first year and we had to have some therapy to help us resolve all of the feelings we suppressed during that time. You are a strong person, it's NOT your fault and we were surprised to find out it was more common than we thought. Our son is now 5 years old, so smart, so big and other than having Asthma and an attitude. Thank you for sharing your story.

I cried so much watching this. Nobody deserves to go through this, but you specifically are such a sweet person that it hurts a thousand times more to hear the story. Even though motherhood can be wonderful, the idea of anything happening to your baby becomes your worst nightmare from the day you get pregnant and for the rest of your life. I can only imagine the fear you felt, and also how your own mother felt. I am so glad everything turned out well. You are incredibly strong Sara, and you deserve nothing but the best. If heaven is real then you must have a golden ticket after going through this. I hope you are enjoying your baby and I send all my love to you and your family ❤.

My wife and I had a similar experience with a doctor that didn't know what was going on. My son was basically born dead and had to be revived but it was very touch and go for what seemed like an eternity. The entire experience was surreal but fortunately turned out fine. He's 25 now and I still look at him as a miracle. I am grateful that you have made it through Sara. I know how hard this had to be for you and your family but I am grateful it all turned out alright. You are amazing for sharing your story.

@SteveHarperrippleon
@SteveHarperrippleon Месяц назад
@@kaylee3964 Sadly. But these stories also highlight a level of resilience as well. Which, if one must go through it, taking away something that can teach you something is in itself valuable. My son taught me he's a fighter. 25 years later. He's that and then some and continues to expire me. For me, experiencing what I did alone with my son (my wife was unable to see him for 24 hours due to emergency surgery), I realize how small I am in the grand scheme of things and, of course, just how life can, and will, throw curve balls your way and you can't always control the outcomes. I did a lot of praying by his little NICU incubator. I talked to him constantly and remember somehow magically watching this pale, sickly little dude somehow come into this awesome shade of pink. I know he couldn't see me, and I could not hold him other than through the little apparatus with a rubber glove, but I swear he stared right at me, squeezed my finger with his little hand, and conveyed, "Dude, I'm not going anywhere." That level of perseverance and commitment inspires me on the daily to want to be a better man.

I'm swedish and they crocheted a similar one for her and we still have it. It was nice to see that they made one for you too, even though we live in totally different parts of the world. Omg Sara, you got me bawling when you started to talk about that feeling when you came home without her. I didn’t have a birth as traumatic as yours, not even close, but that’s the feeling that even 8 years later is not healed. That moment when your baby is not in your belly, not in your arms. I just felt so empty, empty from everywhere. Empty in my belly, empty in my arms, empty in my soul. I remember starting to wonder if I hadn’t dreamt the whole thing, the pregnancy, the labor and delivery, like everything had never existed and I, in fact, had never had a baby. Awful. I wish you to heal from this experience, i recommend EMDR 100% in a few months ❤️

I feel all of this. My birthing experience was also traumatic. 36 hours in labor, emergency C-Section, 2 weeks in the NICU, birth diagnosis of Down syndrome and the worries of all the complications with that. I will never have another kid naturally. I couldn't do that again. I'm glad my daughter is here and safe because it could have gone so badly. I hope things slow down and go smoothly for you from this point. *hugs*

My daughter's birth was extremely traumatizing. The way you choked up just thinking about talking about it, I understand that feeling. Having chunks of your memory missing, I understand. Having your mom and partner there recounting their experience, I understand. Having them talk about hearing you scream, I understand. What helped me the most was to process the birth and postpartum period with a therapist using EMDR. Having so many similarities, I feel confident telling you that your body remembers the trauma even though you don't necessarily remember. Those feelings during your labor and birth will come up at unexpected times. Sometimes, I'd smell something and be weeping not knowing what was happening to me. I also had nightmares. They wouldn't always make sense, but I'd wake up screaming. I had very strong emotions when the doctor was brought up. I'm so very grateful for your family and how they're supporting you. My family were told not to talk about it. I was having PTSD symptoms, thinking I was going crazy with nobody to talk to. I'd hear screaming out of nowhere. My sister told me years later that she could hear me screaming in the parking lot. My body remembered my screams even though I couldn't. Anyway, please consider having intensive therapy like EMDR. Please keep talking about your experience. Please have your family to keep listening. Please know, what you went through was horrible, but you are not! Therapy was the only thing that helped me with lasting healing and peace of mind. Also, please know how very strong, brave, and victorious you are! Many new mamas don't make it out but we did. You made it out! Please kiss your sweet baby for me. You've got this!

The way you handled everything is seriously mind blowing. As you look back on this and the things you didn’t get to do (carry to term or breastfeed), please remember to give yourself grace - you were and are being SO strong and grounded while navigating this immense life transition into motherhood (not to mention on top of many crazy medical procedures!), and you’re absolutely rocking this journey that is uniquely yours. Watching this video brought back a lot of memories. Similar birth stories. I have 2 children & have never carried a baby full term. I’m pretty efficient at delivering healthy babies. They are now 27 & 21 years old. Your reactions are normal. Take time to enjoy the moment, they don’t last. I am incredibly close to my children & I think part of that is going through what it took to get them here. And on the flip side slightly darker side I make Mama Bears look like cuddly little teddy bears. Don’t mess with my kids. And the after delivery, Breastfeeding issues… I empathize because I have been there. Godspeed.

Hey Sara! I’m really glad you’re all ok. I think me and my wife can relate to everything that happened to you. Our oldest daughter, now almost 4, stayed 6 months in the NICU. Long story short, she had a open heart surgery due a malformation due a syndrome she has. Been in the hospital for all that time really put life into perspective. We saw a lot of amazing stories, and other not so happy in the end. Our daughter finally came home at 2020 Christmas Eve, with a tracheostomy and gastrostomy. Another hard 6 months until she took it all off. Today she’s 100% and we had a second baby girl with a totally normal pregnancy. There are things who are totally out of our control but the best will always happen for us.

However my heart goes to you and you family, it was a terrible experience. Best of luck with the baby, she will be a warrior.
