My Travel Coffee Setup (not the Aeropress?!)

I’m travelling for work again (finally!) and you know I can't leave the house without my coffee gear. This is my favourite travel coffee setup for brewing specialty coffee on the road.
In this video I’m going to show you how I brew coffee when I’m travelling, and why I like the Part Coffee Kit so much. Usually the Aeropress is my travel brewer of choice because of its versatility, but I didn’t need that on this trip - I needed a kettle. Enter the Pakt Coffee Kit, a V60 style dripper with travel kettle included!

Did you see that face, that one right after he was done dosing the beans? That face is the face of "oh no I'm almost out of coffee". Loved this video and the stuff you're putting out!

That’s EXACTLY what that face was. I didn’t expect that to be my second last dose 😐

I recently put together a travel kit as well! I found a cool 500ml electric gooseneck kettle on Amazon, accompanied by a plastic V60, Timemore C2 grinder, and Hario scale. It all fits in a small waxed-canvas lunch bag. And there’s even room for the coffee beans!

That sounds like the perfect setup!

Why do you risk sitting on the roof? I would've loved to buy that cute pourable kettle alone, but it's not sold individually :( Already have toooo many coffee things lol

Interesting about not swirling after last pour because excess fines can clog the filter. Would you translate this practice to cheaper home grinders that produce more fines e.g. Virtuoso vs. Forte BG? I have the Virtuoso and it definitely is inferior...
@AlexanderMillsCoffee
@AlexanderMillsCoffee 4 года назад
I definitely would. On a grinder like that (still a good grinder!) you’d have to judge that for yourself based off of how fine you like to grind and what coffee you’re brewing.

i need to look into the Pakt. i did bring a moka pot to a friends house once. once. mistakes were made.

I Just learned about this recently, but apparently the Aeropress plunger part was also designed as a slow-pouring device? You wouldn't be able to do any inverted methods, but from what I've tried you can get a decently slow and accurate pour from it. Not as clean as the Pakt, but it was rather mind-blowing to learn!
@AlexanderMillsCoffee
@AlexanderMillsCoffee 4 года назад
Yeah, it’s a clever little design! I’m an inverted guy so not so helpful for me haha.

Im using an immersion heater to save space, foldable v60 pourigami, then fellow travel cup, 1zpresso grinder, and weightman espresso scale. the issue is pouring hot water from one cup to the other, id like to find an attachable sprout, or a container with a sprout where the fellow travel cup fits into.

My travel coffee kit outside of the Aeropress (which remains the best brewer for outdoors) is consist of a -$2 foldable pour over dripper from Daiso, Brewista's smart scale 2 (so small), Kalita wave pot kettle (the easiest to pack among other kettles. I used to bring a smaller, 600ml one but the pour from the spout was less so brewing took longer), a small hot plate (what I'd normally use for mokapot and stove top kettles), a Comandante or Hario mini slim pro manual grinder, and a mug (hario v60 thermal uchi). All packed inside a cheap but still sturdy shoe pouch that's become the bag for my coffee kit.

Hey Alexander! Great content as always. Do you typically rinse your paper filters in the sink at home? Or do you use your coffee water (third wave/other)? I feel the need to save that juicy tw water as much as poss, so I typically rinse with hot tap water.
@AlexanderMillsCoffee
@AlexanderMillsCoffee 4 года назад
That’s a great question. I usually rinse with my kettle water at home!

Nice video! I usually carry my Sea To Summit pour over (X-brew) with a metal filter, extremely portable and produces a coffe with a nice body

i usually anticipate no coffee materials whatsoever and pre-game pretty hard by drinking exclusively coffee all day for 3 days before I travel so that when I travel I've got a reserve of intake in case there aren't provisions. wait. that's not how coffee works. i need to get a travel setup.
@AlexanderMillsCoffee

have a jetboil for backpack camping/ field cooking/emergency cooking so i use that and do the cowboy method. no need for a filter or multiple containers . at home its a french press (the only thing the french did right lol )

I love the way my mom makes her coffee in the morning. She uses a stovetop percolator. I make coffee on a percolator when I go camping. I'd rather make my own coffee than buy it when I travel. I have recently been traveling more and realized I needed a cost-effective solution because I don't feel right the rest of the day if I don't have a cup of coffee in the morning. Buying coffee while out and about is always hit-and-miss flavor-wise and the expense can quickly add up. Which sucks when you're not satisfied with the coffee in the first place. So I'd rather save myself the aggravation and make it myself just the way I like it.
