I've wanted to visit this museum for years. I finally got to and it was pretty amazing. A definite must for cartoonists out there. Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Peanuts, Sparky Schulz, Charles M. Schulz
i went to the National Air & Space museum in Washington DC in 1999, and went up to the Exhibit of WW1 aircraft, and the main exhibit at the entrance to that was a large display case of Snoopy memorabilia.
I don't know why there isn't a museum in saint paul, minnesota thats where he was raised and where he lived from 1922 until 1953. The first comic came out in the saint paul pioneer press in 1947 it was called little people then he changed it to peanuts. When mall of America first opened they dedicated the theme park in honor of his comic strip. they have statues all over Minneapolis/saint paul of all the peanuts characters.it would be nice to have a museum like this in his home state where it all started
Seconding this...speaking as a Minnesotan. Actually, I was about to ask where this was and then I saw Santa Rosa mentioned by another comment and I was like "WHAT?!?"
This place is really fascinating and I should honestly go to it more. Its definitely very interesting having this video crop up since I live probably 30 minutes away from here.
So amazing to,see this video with the music playing in the background ! My go-to first Christmas tune each year. Astounding that Olde " Sparky " Schulz is still honored by his peers !
I grew up in Santa Rosa, so I spent a bunch of time around here as a kid! In elementary school we would take ice skating lessons at the rink, and I remember sometimes volunteering with my boy scout troop in the museum.
Thanks for the post ! I've been a fan of Mr. Schulz and his work since the days when seeing his animated work on CBS was a Fall and Winter annual tradition. Namely : "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown", "A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving" and "A Charlie Brown Christmas."
I love this museum and I want to go back again. Thanks for the video. We combined out trip with a hot air balloon ride and lunch at the Kendal-Jackson Estate vineyards. So much to see in the area.
Elevate it to a certain extent ? Is he kidding ? Charles Schultz is to cartooning, as Fred Astaire is to dancing, or The Beatles are to popular music . . . there'll never be another, as good as he was .
No, the museum was built by his family after he passed. It's on the same land where he originally lived. Plus, Schulz built an ice skating rink when he lived there for his family and friends, and they've made it so people can actually go in there and skate. It's a really awesome place to check out if you ever get the chance.
