I created my blog in 2012 when I was living in America. I was thrifting so much that I wanted to start sharing my outfits online and inspiring other people to look in charity shops. Now it's become all about my Digital Nomad journey and what it's like to be a female nomad.
↣ Where's your accent from?
I'm from the South of England but I currently live out of a suitcase travelling all over the world.
↣ Where is your favourite place in the world?
I fell deeply in love with Gili Air when we visited as a paradise getaway, but Chiang Mai is my favourite place to live. Plus of course, there's no place like home (Dorset in England).

The title is misleading, several jobs you mention actually DO require skills. Being bilingual doesn't automatically make you a good translator, being 'good with language' doesn't mean you'll be hired as a copywriter etc... and not everyone can make a beautiful website. I've worked with translators, copywriters and webdesigners, what they do requires experience and skill.

I think she meant that you don't need any formal education or training in those fields to be able to find some kind of paid work in them. I have been paid in the past for various things such as translation, copywriting, and currently editing, without having any higher education. However, I do have a very good self-taught understanding of English, which makes me qualified enough for my employer's standards.

Hey Cindy. Thanks for watching! I definitely agree that 99% of blogs don't make any money - you need to be quite tactical about it (choosing segments that monetise well) and treat it as a business rather than a hobby. I've hardly made any money from my blog as it is all about second hand clothes - I do it for passion rather than income! But if you have a blog where you dedicate time to learning SEO skills, using social media wisely, approaching brands to work together, then I certainly thank you can make a living from it. Hope that helps!

You are overcome with trolls who say you are trolling their sites. If that's true, please stop. Also, don't feed the trolls. Are you doing anything else to gain viewers? Hi! Thanks for commenting :) What I wanted from this video was to inspire people to look at existing skills they may already have but don't realise are valuable. With everything in this video you can do years of education and training to improve your skills and charge higher prices. Of course you can be a world-class translator and put a whole career into improving. However, I think a lot of people speak a second language and don't realise that it could be useful to sell online. I want to encourage people to get started earning online and build up a portfolio and show them ideas other than being a website coder. Hope that clears things up!

Well it's a catchy title. Not a perfectly accurate one. If you listen the first thing she says for this skill is, "Obviously for this you will need some existing skills because..." She's not claiming this takes no skill. Also you might be being sarcastic, so apologies if you were and I overreacted with this comment.

There's no need to be offended. Of course you need skills if you want to be professional and have a larger income. But lots of people will happily employ someone with as little skills as just knowing another language, and this is because then they don't need to pay so much.

Digital Nomad Girl & Ingrid Lou yeah, and that's why many translations turn out to be terrible. Because translating takes much much more than looking words you don't know in a dictionary, or even be sure in those you do. It takes knowing both cultures (for source and target language) well and knowing where to look up things you don't know because many things you have to translate through culture, not just language. It takes knowing their history and politics, knowing which tenses from target language can stand for which tenses from source language, and when and why... I could go on forever. Because after 5 years of studying a language at college and a year working actively, translation (and teaching, since you mentioned that too) is still a difficult and stressful job. Trust me, if you aren't stressing over a translation you are doing (unless it's a really simple text), you are either not doing it right, or you have 20 years of experience. Even the shortest texts can be stressful if they deal with specific topics. An example (or two) of how wrong even simple translations can turn out is that where I come from, most TV networks and even cinemas have ditched real (as in people who have studied the language) translators, and pay other people who say they know the language to do their translations for movies, tv-shows, etc. because they're cheaper... There isn't a movie I can watch without seeing a bad translation. Unlike older movies, from the time when real translators were working on them. The same goes for newspapers, even when they report things that are not as trivial as movies. They often fail hard because they think they know a language well enough to do the translations. And sadly, even publishing houses here have started to hire cheaper 'translators'. So don't tell us to don't get upset when someone says that anyone can be a translator if they (say) that they know a language. Anyone can be a translator if they have years of guidance from people who have also had years of guidance and experience (i.e. if they go through college or know a college professor/translator/etc. who can tutor them for several years on how to get to know a language, culture, translate, ... So yeah, as madlenox said, translating takes skill. A LOT of skill and knowledge, for which having several years of GUIDED practice (actually torment would be the correct word here) is only the basis. And I said torment because you have seen nothing until you have had Contemporary *insert language* Language classes (or language practice - that would be the direct translation from my mother-tongue). I wonder how many 'home-made' translators would pass these exams (if any of them would, then hats off), especially because you think you know a language well (that's why you decide to study it), but then you go to college and realize you know nothing

I have started translating English to Polish in highschool without any prior experience. My income was about $300 at $10 per hour, which is a huge rate per hour for a student in Poland. Doing mainly marketing copy translation. But I get what you mean, it can be a very hard and demanding job. My first gigs weren't the best, so to speak. I actually cringe when I read them now and I am sorry for people who paid for this crap and gave me 5 star reviews. Ohh, they don't know. :D

As a home sitter/nanny you have to have insurance in case anything happens. You will have to be bonded in case anything disappears. The insurance for this is extremely expensive. If you want to be a Nanny you have to go back to school to become a Personal Support Worker and have a diploma in child care. . As a Nanny, you will need your Medical level CPR, Have all of your vaccines and a police search done. One has to have their identity cleared by the government. At at least that is how it is in Canada and if I were a parent I would expect nothing less. Thank you though, very interesting. Susan

Hi Susan. I agree entirely - I think most websites will probably request a child safely check from your home police (in the UK that costs about $40) but I guess it just depends on the family and what they're looking for :) I wonder if the websites you get these jobs through might have some insurance... as I'm listing 50 altogether I haven't tried all of them so that's one I'm not sure on! Do you do any online or freelance work? :)

You are really doing a good job in bringing people at the same platform who find themselves helpless when it comes to looking for job opportunities. Hi Nina. Thanks for commenting! I am meaning for people who are raised bi-lingual and therefore don't appreciate the value of what they know. If you've seen my Wanderlass interview #4 she has exactly that situation and it really surprised me how people often don't realise skills that are right in front of them! Je suis digital nomad depuis plus de 3 ans maintenant. Je gère une agence marketing que j'ai créé il y a 4 ans lorsque je vivais en France. Yeah it's definitely the hardest part. Something like that is never "urgent" so it gets pushed aside constantly for daily busy jobs. You have to be really strict with yourself if you want to create a passive income but it's totally worth it! I'm so thankful to my past self for spending so long making Udemy courses! haha

Very true. Life always takes over. Well baking is a huge niche so you'll be in high demand! You've got plenty of choices from cook books, video courses, product etc. :D

Most of those requires skills. To create 'an amazing website' you need to either be an amazing web designer or pay an expensive one. There is no cheap way of making good money.

This is such a good video to make! Thanks so much :) I am always looking for more jobs I can do online and it really can be difficult to know what to do when you aren't skilled eg. in web design, development etc. I also know that there's so many people who think it's impossible to earn money online without a skill... So I know this video will help SO many people :) I've looked into doing voice overs myself but I only tried on Upwork, so I might have another look around!

I have one question (it might be too private): Do you have fears and if yes how do you handle them? I´m in a 9-5, have a regular income and I am so afraid when this moment comes and there will be no regular income and the income varies from month to month. Will this ever disappaer? Many thanks!!

when it comes to languages, it's very possible. you just need to take a test for the certificate usually and then you're good!

Hey, amazing video ;) I'm in middle school and bacicly can't travlel by my self, all though I believe that if I work now on ways to earn income in ways that allow me to choose how I spend my time I might be able to save my self a few years of my youth. Voice savings/ translating interrest me a lot, I speak 3 langueges and I'm learning a fourth. I've got an adult voice all though I'm a minor. Do you think I could start working in that area and realy see what it is and how it works if I fake my age or something ?

Wow that's so exciting! I don't think you'll need to fake your age.... just try making a profile on some voiceover sites and see if you get any interest? Do you have access to a good microphone? When it comes to translating I gotta point out that just because you speak two/three/four languages it doesn't mean that you can automatically become a translator. I've seen native speakers of Spanish who don't know where accents go, native speakers of English who cannot tell the difference between their/they're/there. Those are silly examples but you do need to be a professional to do that, you gotta know your own language very well and know the stuff you are translating. That is why people go to university to learn it. I am telling you this because I got the degree and it is no easy job.

Hi! I haven't ever tried any voiceover but generally I'd say paying for premium is worth it if you're taking it seriously and want to make a job out of it. Maybe try one month first and then make sure you spend the whole month applying for jobs.

Yep I agree. But it's also something that a lot of nomads do to get started so can be very empowering for people who want to earn online. Of course in every industry there are better trained and experienced people - you would be at the top of that industry but it doesn't mean people can't get started at the bottom :)

I think one very very important disclaimer you forgot to add is ,"It takes money to earn money" which some may or may not have to get started. I think a great video that will get you lots of views and feedback is one that has beginner Nomad jobs that may require minute to no start-up cost. just your laptop and an internet connection, like website testing for a example.

Brilliant! I think upwork is the most common place to start :) and through your network! Try to be creative about where you find clients.... E.g. Contact writing agencies and see if they want to offer their clients blog posts in multiple languages :£

Not for doing work on Upwork etc as a freelancer. I imagine some translation employers (full time companies) might want it but if you're freelancing then it's more about personality, experience and how well you deliver! What do you speak?

Diego De La Morena depends mostly on the country. In America, they mostly want a degree in some English related area, or you can translate specifically engineering, so on, if you're in that area. In Europe, you typically need 5 years of experience and/or a certification. In India, china, and Latin America, you can translate without any issues, but pay is low, ranging from 1-3 cents of a dollar per word. In all regions, you are required to be a native speaker in your target language. But when you count marketing emails, seeking jobs, tests, jobs, revisor complaints.... even if you translate quickly pay is low. 7-25$ an hour. - SP/PT > EN translator

I'm working as a English/French Freelance Translator and I have 0 degree, it's been about 6 months that I'm doing this and I've worked for a lot of professionals and even tv companies! I don't earn enough money to live with it but it is always nice to have an additional 200-300$ each month. In my opinion, you should try and see what happens! You have nothing to lose, except maybe 1 or 2 hours of your time for doing a nice profile description!

The problem with this sort of thing is that it takes a long time to build up contacts/referrals in these roles. As a developer, copy writer and freelance writer online I know that many of these roles require a lot of being paid almost nothing for 6 months to 1 year to stand out from the millions of other digital nomads trying to siphon off some low hanging fruit so bare in mind you'll need a niche or a gimmick to stand out. Just bare in mind that none of these no skill jobs are just walk into jobs.

Hey James. Totally agree - building up a portfolio, clients and referrals is a long (and important) process! I wanted to make a video to give people ideas to just get them off the ground as fast as possible. Hopefully it'll help them get started and be able to live, and then they can build up their prices over time. What do you mostly write about? :)

For all of these you can definitely be better or worse (voiceover artists can have a lifetime of training!) but they are ideas where you might be naturally more appropriate and can get started on a portfolio without formal training or experience :)

drop shipping cost lots of money to get up and running and maintain, not as simple as it's made out t be, look to spending about 5,000.00 in up front and recurring cost. Same with FBA you don't warehouse or ship but you have to purchase the bulk which if it doesn't sell you're screwed.

Yes you are right - of course the costs vary depending no what product you choose or what expenses you try to cut back on - but yes it does cost money to get started :) FBA for me seems like a bigger expense because you need to buy stock upfront (I have a video series about this at the moment) whereas dropshipping you need a website, ads for traffic, and a supplier partner. Hope your journey is going well!

For this video I want to help people identify talents they've got which they might not realise are useful. I am TERRIBLE at proof reading because I have bad attention to detail and wouldn't enjoy it at all. But some people are great at that so I think they could become a proof reader without a formal qualification. They may not realise they have such a valuable talent because for them it comes naturally! Hope that makes sense :)
