They should have made at least 1 season about Dicky. I understand that Tony wasn’t the main focus, but frankly, there wasn’t even enough Dicky in it. We were told in the series that Dicky was this whole big character. A legend. Father figure to Tony. They failed to make me care about Dicky like i did for Tony in the series. It sucks because Dicky actually had the makings of a varsity legendary character.
Wish I could see it in the cinema but unfortunately they decided not to show the movie in theaters in Russia. Probably thought it wouldn’t do great. Although here people freaking crave the Sopranos.
I read an article for the reason they had Michael imperioli to narrate was because DC admitted that “was not always how the film was going to start”, explaining that Imperioli’s return was to help clear up any confusion for viewers.” He further explained that “We first undertook it to clear up possible confusions and to help people understand where they were - where’s Newark, who are the criminals, who’s that guy, is that Silvio… we’re getting a lot of that,” Chase further explained.” So Originally there wasn’t going to be a narrator, they added michael before the movie was about to be released.
@@luiszapata1416 Hear what he said btw, about after he died? Left his wife and family with nothing, and Tony not even paying them too much mind in the years after his death? (Or at least inferring it)? That means Tony lived out his life, and that's right folks...did NOT die in the diner that night.
@@luiszapata1416 An alternate idea involved opening the film with Carmela Soprano, but Alan Taylor and the crew opted to cut scenes that Edie Falco filmed for such opening.
When that original Soprano music started trickling through…The deep and intense expression on his face - especially the look in his eyes - gave me chills. That was Tony Soprano right there. WOW
That was the moment we all know Tony made his decision to go into the "business" That was the moment things changed in his mind. I really think this is setting us up for more stories into what made Tony Soprano. James's son looks just like his dad probably did at that age. Lets hope for more back story movies with him playing his dad at a younger age. I know James G. is smiling up above watching his son take on the part.
You 100% can deny it.. According to Tony, Dickie Molisanti was just the man-the best thing since sliced bread-a legend, "someone you could look up to, guy you could depend on you ask anybody", yet his last memory of him is Dickie ignoring Tony on the phone/giving him shit over the phone for the beer, then brazenly ignoring his knocks at the Warehouse/having Silvio blatantly lie to his face as he stands out in the cold snow with his dick in his hands, fuck me whatta real standup guy-someone you could totally "depend" on... 👀 This movie just murdered the apparent legend we all were led to believe Dickie was *in a LOT of ways* and shit on the show's established lore/history and even a few characters outside of Dickie (like Junior)....
@@CommanderLongJohn Yet was willing to meet with him the next morning. He was there for him throughout the whole movie which took place over the course of years. Was not until the very end he ignored him and not getting him beer is not even a big deal. Even had the medicine for Livia in his pocket when he died. Get out of here with that.
@@valaxius Has nothing to do with the beer you schmuck.. it's how he treated Tony, how he flat out lied to him and left him out in the snow like some bum begging for change, something the Dickie we heard about and even saw in the movie more than likely wouldn't do ("Silvio" even had to 'talk him into' just meeting Tony the next morning). And that shit with Livia'a "meds", it was literally just thrown in there, in order to make up for the fact Christopher outright spoke of his dad's addiction in the show ("whatever shit he was squirting up his arm")..
@@CommanderLongJohn "Was literally just thrown in there." Yes like the rest of the writing was literally just thrown in there lmao And if you think low IQ name calling adds anything try again buddy. He didnt answer him knocking on the door. Oh no! He left him out in the snow like he had no place to go. Oh and you are not gonna get high like that off of anti depressants lmao Get out of here. You are comical. I'll give you that.
@@CommanderLongJohn bruh he was going through a crisis as to if he’s ruining Tonys life or not. He visited his uncle in jail for years and at the end of it he told him to stay out of Tony’s life. he also very quickly changed his mind into meeting tony. Also the druggie line from Christopher I always meant to believe that that’s what Christopher wanted his father to be so that he can say he lived to the Maltisanti name. Dragging his dads name in the mud to try and justify his wrongdoings in life
I really like how christopher says “thats the guy my uncle tony the guy i went to hell for” it shows that history repeats itself as tony promise his loyalty to his uncle dicky
The next Soprano story should take place in 1982: the year Tony made his bones with the bookie, the year he turned his back on being a "civilian", and (if my memory is correct) should also be the year Meadow was born. Incidentally, it's the same year that "Don't Stop Believin'" was on the Billboard Hot 100 (1981-1982).
Tony would've turned his back on being a civilian way before that dude, back when he was in college... And ironically enough, quite literally the only reason on earth "Don't Stop Believing" was chosen for the ending song, is because David Chase knew the cast/crew HATED that song to no end-absolutely despised it-so he basically used it as a "Ha-Ha" to the crew
great idea! i would like to think his first kill wasn’t willi overall like he told pauline but maybe he killed someone before that maybe harold so we can pay off that character and willie overall was just his making the bones kill, but i’d like to see all that
@@andyblack9066 series as in 13 episode in a season. They made Dicky Moltisanti a much bigger charecter in the Sopranos (series) than he is in this movie. They rushed the shit outta this movie.
This movie answered the question of Dickies’s death, in the series it feels so ambiguous even when Tony tells Crissy it was a cop it just didn’t feel right
@@KarlMarxhaswifi That was Juniors personality to a T!! Took the short cut and did shit the underhanded way, instead. His tactics are probably why he got passed over for boss! Johnny boy mentioned that Dickie was doing better for the family than Junior, so instead of “stepping his game up” he KILLS the competition and “wins” THAT way! 😒
Lmfao dude, the song was shoehorned in so badly *among a plethora of other thing's in the movie* it almost felt as forced as the nonsensical interracial sex scene that came out of nowhere 🥴
@@CommanderLongJohn THANK YOU! Subplot lead to nowhere and movie outright sucked. This should have been a Bronx tale style with Dickie being a Sonny type to Tony. He has like just 4 scenes with him. That isn’t enough to justify the film. Black guys subplot went nowhere and was used just to drag story along
It wasn’t a bad movie, felt more like a pilot though, a very good pilot, still this scene brings a smile. Once that intro jumps off you know it’s the ugly beautiful beginning of something.
@@mattvisconti8456 plotless? Not really. Directionless? Again not really. You guys have been too used to 20 years of crappy films. Show off your directorial skills since you seem to be knowledgeable
@@educate3d "used to crappy movies" meanwhile I'm getting lectured by a sopranos dick rider who can believe they can do no wrong living off nostalgia 😂😂
@@mattvisconti8456 I think you either loved the film or hated it. Either way it made you feeling something, enough to make you comment on it. What didn’t you like my goodfella
Honeslty this film was good well wasn't good but it was essentially rushed into trying to fit what needed to be a series or 3 hr film everything in this could have been great if it had been a series and had it more expanded on still I enjoyed it and the ending was really cool
@Nick scalamoni well if they made one that was good enough it could potentially heal this wound but that’s a really really really really really really really really really really really really really really big if.
@Nick scalamoni I thought it was ok no where near sopranos level but just ok. I think if they just focus on 1 character like a young tony instead, and just focus on his storyline and development it’ll be good I felt like this movie tried to do too much and just left you wanting more by the end, would’ve probably worked better as a mini series.
seeing Mike (Young Tony) standing there, I was thinking "Yep, he's got his father's mannerisms down pat." he looked just like his old man even more in this scene.
You all went into it wanting a complete Tony Soprano origin story. David Chase said not to expect that. It was Dicky's story from the beginning. I thought it was great. I loved it can't wait for a sequel
If anything, I think the marketing is a huge factor in people’s disappointment. I loved it, but I would have loved (like many others) to see more of Michael as Tony. Crossing my fingers for a sequel of sorts
@@Jack-jx2ug we will get more movies or possibly a show. This film left a lot of room for continuation into the world of sopranos. If they didn’t market young tony nobody would have cared as much to see it. I thought it was a great film. Only portrayal I hated was frank Lucas depiction.
I literally can’t stop watching this😱😱 When I saw it in the theater and I heard the “Sopranos” theme song, the biggest grin was on my face almost immediately😁😁
I got chills when I first saw this. God damn did Michael do a fantastic job capturing the essence, character, mannerisms, looks, etc of Tony Soprano. Just fantastic.
I loved how Silvio was the one that felt so sorry for young Tony when he was trying to see Dickie. He convinced Dickie to talk to Tony at Holsteins. Kind of hints at Tony and Silvio's future close relationship
@@richiefranklin76 And nicely bookends the the show as Tony will meet his (presumed) demise at Holeteins, enjoying a nice dinner with his family in the final scene of the show.
@@ggqbc yeah this film was decent at best as it was rushed hopefully there is some sort of directors cut what will be Godfather length or once upon a time in America length
@@duckwish301 - Someone I read a few days ago said it best. He said 'It's a well made but unremarkable gangster movie. If it wasn't for The Sopranos link, no one would care.' He nailed it.
this was a great movie. you are actually brain dead. i actually cared about all the characters for once and the movie didn’t just look at tony it looked at the other characters and told there back story this movie was well made the characters are amazing the movie was great get your head out of ur A** and appreciate the story we got
Absolute chills, when music hits you like this dies, you know that the music represening the show is representing that moment he took Jackies pinky it was the beginning of the transformation of him becoming the version of Tony from the show...genius. Micheal G. did his father proud and David Chase in a pure genius. This ending like the shows is pure art
Great movie. A story in the early days of the family. The potential that a series in this time period has its ridiculous. Think of all the stories and characters that a 2 hour movie simply couldn't give us. I really liked this movie.
I can't help but remember that episode of The Sopranos, where Tony and Junior, are sitting on the couch, and Tony tells Junior to take his medicine, to make him feel better, help with his memory. Junior replies to him, "Believe me, there's plenty I'd like to forget". I'd like to forget the fact that I killed your uncle and mentor, because I was jealous, and envious. I now look at, and feel different towards Junior's character after watching this film.
@@TCN00 one more little interesting thing about the soprano family is that at dickie funeral livia is the one who started the rumor about dickie being a “drug addict / junkie” because he had pills on him when he died but they were for tony, so practically not only did her son and brother in law ruin Chris life she also was the one who started a rumor that caused him to believe that his father was nothing more than a junkie
People are heavily dissing this movie... but I got to say I think it's pretty damn good.....is it a masterpiece?? No but if you're a sopranos fan you can acknowledge that it was a very entertaining film..
I think what happened is a lot of people who didn't really watch the Soprano's went to see it. Because it's hard for me to imagine an actual fan of the series not liking it, because the style of the movie was very similar to that of the show.
Loved this ending and I think Michael did a great job as younger Tony (I can see James face, especially the anger) but he didn't get enough development, this was all over the place. The movie felt like two episodes of a prequel series put together, they should have just made it a show with multiple episodes.
I enjoyed the movie, it wasn't the best, but it was enjoyable. I echo the sentiment that a lot of other people have about it needing to be a miniseries. But damn, if the ending of Many Saints didn't make me smile when the little hints of Alabama 3 started coming through.
I have faith that there will be more prequels and show flashbacks of Dickie and stories of him that young Tony uses as his manifest to rise to the Legend he becomes
We all started clapping at this in the theater 👏 Many Saints Of Newark brought back memories and gave us things to look forward to but overall a great watch for Soprano fans
This movie was all over the damn place and the marketing made it seem like the story was about tony soprano. I mean overall it’s decent and I liked the moltisanti thing but damn expected a bit more
I like to think that this was the moment in tony’s life where he decides for himself once and for all that he’ll dedicate himself and put all effort into LCN.
