I love people's reactions to Akechi. It's typically, "Is he untrustworthy or not? Is he flirting? Is it both?" And I love it. He certainly is a character that keeps you on your toes. The jumpscare moments are fitting.

I always got Light Yagami vibes from him. In the sense that he seemed to have his own sense of justice. And that justice is really important to him. And I found it interesting that, throughout the game, he challenged the ideals of of the Phantom Thieves. I love stuff and people that make me think about my ideals.

@@jiayu-sama7989 True, I probably realized that subconsciously when I was first playing P5. Though, I was seeing some discussion elsewhere that Akechi is honestly more like L than Light. Very clever and devious in how he acts towards Joker and the group, trying to prove that they are the Phantom Thieves. Similar to how L acts towards Light. I guess you could say the same thing about Light towards L, though.

Fun fact: Goro Akechi was named after a detective character, Kogoro Akechi. I’ve heard he’s the Japanese equivalent of Sherlock Holmes. Sherlock Holmes was the gentleman thief Arsene Lupin’s rival. Joker is a gentleman thief, and Arsene is his persona. So the rivalry between Joker/Akechi mirrors that of Arsene Lupin/Sherlock Holmes.

@@doctorsnakeeater1997 Perhaps, I’m not too familiar with Japanese history. Though I think the Kogoro Akechi connection is overall more important, because a gentleman thief has to have a detective rival, and the name reference sets that up perfectly. (Personally I have some issues with how some of that plays out late-game, but I can’t really explain why without going into spoilers).

@@hunterlawrence3573 SPOILERS FOR THE 6TH AND 7TH ARC OF PERSONA 5 Yknow, it would've been pretty cool if Akechi's "fake" persona was Sherlock Holmes instead of Robin Hood. While Robin Hood makes more sense from a thematic perspective, especially with the personality Akechi displays to the public, Sherlock would be an amazing reference to the fact that he sees himself as Joker's rival.

@@m0n5a80 I suppose they could’ve done that if they wanted to be really on the nose with the whole “Arsene Lupin vs. Sherlock Holmes” thing. But Robin Hood fits more in line with everyone else in the game, in the sense that their first Persona is a famous thief, and the second is a mythological trickster. Even without spoilers you know that’s probably going to happen for Akechi because it happens to everyone else.

13:58 As usual I find this little sequence absurd. It was neat at first but the fact she does this for EVERY CONFIDANT just leads to the mental image of her wasting time randomly trying to guess every social encounter you've ever had. "In order to plan your heists, you had to gather in meetings. And meetings are bland without an assortment of drinks and snacks. Therefore, you needed to acquire food regularly from a vendor! Who gave you the snacks! ANSWER ME!" Which is only fair, I suppose, since the gameplay also implies Joker is sitting there cheerfully telling her everything he's done for the last six months day by day, from Phantom heists down to whether he decided to go to the batting cages or do laundry that evening.

Okay, reading this comment made me come up with a new head-cannon, and I want other peoples opinions. What if whenever Joker is talking about a Confidant (with a few exceptions like Sojiro, Aketchi, people connected to the target, & the phantom thieves), he refers to them by their Arcana? Like Death for Dr. Takami & Faith for Kasumi. That would explain why Sae is always asking who his confidants are, and it’s a good way to keep them safe if the plan fails.

Something I find to be interesting is Makoto is the only character to accept her contract before hearing it. I think it just shows how ready she is to "rebel" and I love it for her character. Also Makoto is best girl and I think this is genuinely the best persona 5 playthrough I've ever seen and I can't wait to see your reactions to the later arcs!

As much as I liked seeing Makoto awakening her Persona, I couldn't help but feel that it was...a little bit rushed. For me, the very fact that she was able to rebel against Kaneshiro, someone who she JUST met, takes a bit of intensity out of it compared to...just about every other awakening up until this point. I personally feel like Makoto should've asked the Phantom Thieves to help her change the Principal's heart to, you know, actually make him care more about the students or something like that.

@@Loner098 She isn't rebelling against Kaneshiro. She's rebelling against her sister, the principal, every school student who expects too much and credits too little. Kaneshiro isn't the big bad in her story, he's just the newest obstacle in front of her. That's why it's that fast. Because while everyone else needed Joker's help to overcome their struggles, it's very obvious that even if Joker never existed, Makoto was already on her way to the same breaking point on her own before we met her.

1:22:15 is even better than you know. I remember reading somewhere that all the bosses have a few special notes reguarding Showtime. The first is that all the bosses have a unique animation where the POV is from the boss during the attack, not in third person. The second one I remember reading if that the bosses have a hidden trigger where if you get their health catastrophically low on their final phase, it force a Showtime option with the character that boss is most connected to (The character that gained their persona in that palace. The window is apparently between 0 - 0.5% of their max health. So very thin and just before defeat.

10:02 Fun fact- The number monitor was added in Royal Iida was originally voiced by Akechi (Robbie Daymond) but then they had another actor (Bryce Papenbrook) voice him as well so the audio sounds like one person then another when you're alone with him Now that you met the fortune teller, I really hope you talked to her right away. She's best girl. Also the two colorful characters' (the guys that dragged Ryuji away in Shinjuku) dialog were severly edited, even the japanese sub was changed 1:01:30 Fun fact 2- You can check out Central Street to see Ann and Mako at the crepe stand. If you hadn't, you're missing out. The Kaneshiro fight in vanilla use to be Kaneshiro using a curse skill and a gun skill, then pigbot and then it explodes 1:25:06 Fun fact 3- The line was adlibbed

Goro Akechi is based on Kogoro Akechi, the main character of Edogawa Rampo classic mysteries. He is an ace detective and the arch nemesis of the phantom thief "Man with 20 faces". Edogawa Rampo's Akechi series from the 1920s is the most famous mystery novel series in Japan. Edogawa is often called the Conan Doyle of Japan and his works are heavily inspired by the Sherlock Holms novels.

1:40:00 Makoto's rejection of Principal Eggman here is a lot of a bigger deal than most of us may realize. A letter of recommendation would all but guarantee she'd get into a good college, and (in Japan at least) that would almost guarantee she'd get a good job and be set for life. In other words, _she's throwing away her near-guaranteed good future, all for the Phantom Thieves._

Yayyyyyy Makoto joins the team. 😄 At first she started out for me as this stalker trying to spy on Joker and his friends. And then this arc changed my perspective of her. Everyone being so mean and here I'm thinking "Why can't I talk to her?" I already hated the principal blackmailing Makoto to spy on the Phantom Thieves instead of him doing it. Also, that scene with Sae telling Makoto she's useless will always upset me. 😭 Makoto's awakening will always be my favorite one.

This is the point in the story where i feel the first half of the characters start to crumble a bit as most of their character development outside Social Links falls away. Makoto's journey and pain, while still hitting something of an extreme, is probably the most relatable and real of the bunch. Thus you feel so bad when you see her perspective, all the weight dropped on her and the slaps to the face she takes that make her crumble and break. Its also why, outside of Joker, her Awakening is the best imo. While she has been been beaten down by the weight of her expectations and slip-ups, she's to ONLY PT to stay standing during the Contract and subsequent Awakening. Its why for a lot of people she's the P5 Best Girl. Definitely my pick of the bunch. Btw, just discovered this series and am loving your reactions to the story so far. I do hope there's a video that may come of your journey with the different confidants.

Makoto is one of my favorite Persona characters in the whole series. She has such a great arc. I legit would play a sequel that followed her and Haru in college with new Persona users and meta verse. Kind of like how some characters from Persona 1 were part of 2 as well.

Yusuke is my favourite. He is funny but not haha funny, more like he says oblivious things that people find odd. He sometimes come off innocent or even clueless, but moreso on social courtesy and stuff. He is well spoken, talented and he has the most profound quotes in the game (for me) that warmed my heart.

I feel like a lot of the comments already covered this, but genuinely, this is one of my favorite persona 5 royal series to watch. (And i have watched far too many). I found it two days ago and have binged all the episodes so far. I even started a (idk how many this makes) additional play through because it brought back so many memories. I want to be selfish and ask for more, but i saw you comment about working a full-time job, and i know how much energy that can take. I will just wait patiently so you can enkoy it when you can (though the next arc is my personal favorite). Keep up the good work, and i hope you keep enjoying the game!

Glad to hear you're getting hooked into this game. Make sure you max out as many confidants as you can! *Especially* Dr. Maruki, Kasumi and Akechi if you want to unlock the best part of the game.

Persona 5 is one of my favorite games of all time. Watching you play through it and actually getting excited and pumped up is so, so, much fun. I really hope you keep this up, because this is one of the best playthroughs I've seen in a long time. You've earned yourself a sub!

I wanna say that I have watched the first 2 videos dozens of times a while at work. There's something about the Persona 5 story that makes me wanna watch others' experience with it for the first time because I had some of the same reactions. I truly appreciate you breaking this series up into arcs. I am playing through this game at the moment and have so many thoughts I'm trying to work through as I get further into the game and I'm able to watch your video's and deflate as I hear you going through the same situations. I haven't really been able to do that with any other streamer as I'm super scared of spoilers and would rather just seperate myself from ocntent till I'm finished rather than have someone ruin this awesome story so far, it's amazing your chat hasn't spoiled you on it up to this point but wow what a crew you have.

I love how invested he's getting and really enjoying it. I've seen other people just kind of play it but his reactions and everything are the best haha. I really hope we see him play through it all, there's waaaaay more badass scenes and twists to discover. I finished the original way back on PS4 but haven't gone back and done Royal even after all this time though I have it on PS5 now, just been procrastinating and playing other stuff lately.
