So glad you featured some Besnard Lakes! I also love their self titled debut. Dark and unique. Some more recommended gaps to fill: Bad Brains I Against I (I like this better than Rock for Light) Colin Bass (of Camel) An Outcast of the Islands Bauhaus Mask Beautiful South 0898 Adrian Belew The Lone Rhino and Mr Music Head Beck One Foot in the Grave and Sea Change Belle and Sebastián Push Barman to Open Old Wounds Big Star #1 Record and Radio City Best Coast s/t The Billy Nayer Show The Villain that Love Built Bram Tchaikovsky Strange Man, Changed Man Blondie first 5 albums The Breeders Title TK Blancmange Happy Families
@TheProgCorner Another vote for Beck, one of my favorites of all time. His style is all over the place. Musical genius. James Gadson is on some of his albums - a legendary session drummer who’s played with almost everyone in the biz.
Badfinger. Black sabbath. Blue Oyster cult The Babys..Black Oak Arkansas. Bread. Backstreet crawler. Blondie. The Breeders. Bachman-Turner Overdrive. Barclay James Harvest. Banco. Be Bop Deluxe. Cool stuff. Out of your collection of B's I have: Tony Banks All the BJH The first Bebop deluxe Bowie..ziggy That's it! Looking forward to the c's 🇬🇧 🏴
No Bad Religion? I thought "Into the Unknown" would be in the collection for sure. Maybe "Suffer". I love those albums, they're AMAZING!!! jk Scot I don't have them either. 😎
I'm with you on Bowie,Blonde Redhead and of course Kate Bush. I bought Kate's first album for $1 in the cutout section ('80, '81) having never heard anything by her. The "Legwarmers" cover. I was amazed of course.
@@TheProgCorner I'm going to tell my son to leave you all the vinyl I have that you don't to you in my will Scot. I did indoctrinate him into YES and he'll probably keep them but you've already got all of those albums of which I have 22 on vinyl anyway so you get everything else. I'd rather see them go to you than an estate sale.🤩
@@TheProgCornerI have a few from all 3 of them. Funny I haven't heard any of them since the early 1980s. It's not that I don't like them anymore. There's much better to waste my time with. Good to see a little Bread there. I have all their albums. On The Water has the best deep cuts, and their self titled debut is pretty good too.
Maybe Björk would be an interesting addition. Her music certainly isn't Progressive Rock, but rather Avantgard. But it's kind of in the same vein. And some of her works can only be described as concept albums.
OMG Scot! Not to sound like a typical, overly fanatical guitar geek 🎸 but no Jeff Beck or Tommy Bolin in your collection? Unless you’re a closet case about them (some guys are, really). I need more Kate Bush in my collection, too. Ironically, Hounds Of Love is not one of them (although I’ve heard it several times). I have yet to find The Sensual World on vinyl, might cave and order it online
Although I'm more a folk music fan than any other genre, I do have a soft spot for Black Sabbath 'Master Of Reality'. The track After Forever is especially splendid. Mind you, it looks to me as if you have so many records...dozens upon dozens of records...I wonder how you ever find the time to listen to them all.
Really enjoy going through your records with you! I've already searched out several bands that I never heard of from your collection-thanks! Just wondered if your have a CD collection or MP3 files to fill in some of the gaps.
Excellent stuff Scot. I bet everyone was waiting for certain bands , whether you have any vinyl or not. Personally was waiting for Blondie , but I wasn't sure if you were a fan of Budgie either ?? I think they're great... and its really interesting seeing your collection. I need to catch up on ' A '. Cheers for now. 🎵🎵😍🤘
Love your “pronunciations” of the Italian bands and albums…. 🥶 (got 15 albums of Banco, the last the 2-CD homage to Francesco) I’ve got a Baba Yaga album, a Band (Big Pink), Polish Biala Armia, Big Brother &Holding Company, Blue Cheer, Cristina Branco (fado), Angelo Branduardi, Michael Brook, Elkie Brooks (🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰), Polish Budka Suflera, David Byrne. But nowie Bowie nor Black Sabbath (first 👍 all coming after 🤮) You do really throw out a lot of great hints, but I have holes in my collection and don’t dare (afford) buying too many and too new.
@@TheProgCorner Thumbs up, Scott! Forgot my Moscovian (Russian) collection: Brigada S (led by Garik Sukachev ... he'll end up later), Slava Butusov (from Nautilus Pompilius - great name) Tanya Bulanova (there's an album cover I recognize from Queen, I think). PS. If you live in or near Chicago we can meet in December and have a debate about ... anything.
Scot, you need some Brand X in your collection. Some Peter Baumann too, if you like electronic music. And one of the finest German bands of the 70s, even if they had a terrible name...Birth Control. Hoodoo man & Operation are good places to start
1:38 LMAO! Great selection of Beatles and Sabbath albums. The mention of Bread was a blast from the past for sure. Other good Brubeck albums: Time Further Out and Time In.
Major "B" gaps: Bachman Turner Overdrive Bad Company (😲what the?) Joan Baez The Band Beach Boys (😳criminal) Jeff Beck Pat Benatar The Black Crowes (head shaking) The Black Keys (head really shaking) Blondie (😧seriously?) Buffalo Springfield (whaaaat?) The Byrds (😱oh - my - God!)
Wow Man!! Beatles,Sabbath,Breeders,Frank Black,Bowie,Boston.......and The Beat (Paul Collins) I'ts A Great Album!! I Like This Serie!! Congrats Scot!!!❤❤❤
Magnificent choice! What about B: Blue - Another Night Time Flight; Blue; Life In The Navy; Boz Scaggs - Silk Degrees; Bronco - Ace Of Sunlight; Smoking Mixture; Breathe Bible - Eureka; Budgie - Never Turn Your Back On A Friend; and Maggie Bell (Queen Of The Night) of course ....have all of this in my B.
Hey ! You, the more hairy Noble Records with less beard, what about Bacamarte ? il Baricentro ? Bambibanda e melodie ? The italian Bauhaus ? Buon Vecchio Charlie ? Brimstone ? Ma banlieue flasque ? Birth control ? To name a few...
Quite a collection again! I don't have many B albums... I have two BÖC albums, Tyrrany and Mutation and Fire of Unknown Origin, plus Blind Guardian's At the Edge of Time (I'll admit that power metal is just fun sometimes). I sort solo artists by first name currently, so I also have one album by Ben Folds, Rockin' the Suburbs, that I've never listened to but I know my sister used The Luckiest as the first dance with her husband at their wedding so I bought it cheap at some point. And if we count CDs I saved to my computer from my parents' collection there's four Boston albums, I know it's weird to have more than two but there you go I guess.
Today’s episode brought to you by the letter “B”. Counting my B section I have 142 different artists. It starts with the B’52s and ends with David Byrne. Smack dab in the middle is Bongwater preceded by Tommy Bolin and followed by Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band. Of course I have all the usual suspects that you would expect a 61 year old freak to have. The oldest albums I have in B are albums by Les Baxter and the newest would be Black Crowes latest. Who doesn’t love talking about what they have? I certainly do but it isn’t my show. But it’s fun going through what you have in B.
Don’t feel guilty about loving Bread! Lou Barlow is a big fan. Love the Canadian Indie content! The Besnard Lakes and Broken Social Scene have a bunch of great albums.
be bop deluxe, wow, more should know. saw modern music in the racks recently, preowned, and instantly clutched it to my heart: it was a no one else gets this moment (9 quid) red noise is great. love that you look in corners, black midi - so young so timeless. man you don't need a microphone do you! fine nonsense at the end😮!
Lots of great stuff here! Imagine how long these videos would be if you didn’t unfortunately lose your old collection. I really have to dip my toes into Italian prog.
Lots I didn't know, but yet to check out. Would that Barclay James Harvest got more airplay. Nick and Lex did Mockingbird, but I don't think anyone has done Hymn or Poor Man's Moody Blues yet. Personally I might think of giving away the Back Street Boys, but wtf.
@@TheProgCorner One of my favorites of all songs. Some of their live versions are pretty good too. Powerful message. Think I'll go listen again. Alexa! Play Hymn by Barclay James Harvest. "Valley's deep..."
Yes listen to it - Barry Gibbs vocals on this release are absolutely sublime - it’s very laid back and country but my goodness those vocals are just incredible!!
Great fun getting to know your collection! About A: you need some Kevin Ayers; Amon Düül II (Yeti); The first Ash Ra Temple (for the great art work if nothing else) On B, here's a few recommendations from my collection (and of course you know about them): Big Star (both) Badfinger (straight up) Beta Band (3 Ep's; might set you back a bit if going for the vinyl) Björk (the three first) Boston Spaceships!! ( I only got the compilation) Courtney Barnett Bowie's Blackstar (a must) Jeff Buckley (Grace) Syd Barrett (both) .... and maybe some Beach Boys wouldn't hurt (Smiley Smile, Friends, Surf's Up ....)
@@TheProgCornerNo Jeff Beck? I'm not sure you're missing much with Badfinger. I have a few of them and the only one I listened to more than once is The Magic Christian soundtrack. That band a bit overrated.
dear Progster. way cool diversity of genres, styles and idioms' of Global plasticity. Bad Brains, is way too cool, to be next to the BS Buoyz. Cheers from SpoCanada.
