As soon as you post a new video, I automatically press 'like' before I've even watched most of it. I swear if you made a 30 minute video telling us all why we should paint kittens green and listen to the Black Dyke Brass Band playing hits by Abba, I'd still press 'like' and endure it, purely out of loyalty.
Saw Ambrosia about 2 yrs. Great great show!! And Aeorosmith Rocks- I would get dressed for work and dates for days listening to Back in the Saddle. Perfect pump you up!
Not mentioned but very good: After Forever: Decipher, Don Airey: K2, Alquin: The Mountain Queen, Alquin: Nobody Can Wait Forever, Arena: Songs From The Lion Cage + 9 other studio albums, Ayreon: The Final Experiment + all the other studio albums. On my You Tube channel Harold's Prog Rock Show a show about the Arena albums and one about the Ayreon albums.
I didn’t think ‘80’s Aerosmith was bad at all, just not as interesting as the earlier stuff. Then again, I can say the same exact thing about at least seven other bands that span those decades (Deep Purple, Yes, Pink Floyd, Rush, Fleetwood Mac, Santana, Heart…)
@@MochaDaisy8645 I had Pump and Permanent Vacation on cassette and loved them back then as a 14 year old but can’t remember the last time I listened to them.
@@TheProgCorner Their best stuff, no doubt. Though I think that "Night In The Ruts" and "Rock In A Hard Place" are underrated records. Better than what came after at least.
I love the first and second Ambroisa albums! Their last album Road island is really good it is definitely a return to form. Great video as always Scott! 👍👍
Scot, I just wanted to thank you, man. I have been diving deep into Prog Rock lately and I've discovered so much great music. It's brought so much joy and happiness into my life. And it's largely because of your amazing content on this channel and enthusiasm for the genre. You're an inspiration. Keep up the good work, brother. I'll be here for it. Thanks again.
Some great albums Scot. A couple of A recommendations: Abecedarians The Other side of the Fence. 2 10" vinyl with a limited run of 1500. Numbered. The first 500 on yellow translucent vinyl. But the best part is the music is top tier. Still available on Discogs. Also Laurie Anderson Big Science. Cheers!
Nice collection! Admittedly I don't have any vinyls, since as is I lack the means to use them, the space to keep them, or the money to really afford them, so for the time being at least I'm just sticking to CDs. Sure, it's not as glamorous, but it's still nice. It's not as big or diverse a collection as yours, either, but I like it and try to add to it when I can. For the A section, the only album in common is Asia's debut (though I'd like at least Alpha at some point too). I also have three Animals as Leaders albums (missing the debut and the newest one) and every Ayreon release, plus I'm looking to get at least a few Arena albums at some point too. Definitely some stuff you got that I'd like to find someday too!
I don't know about most of these bands but I love hearing you talk about them. I enjoy listening and learning from what others have to say. And your delivery is so enjoyable. I have to admit, reputation be damned, that GG Allin put a good effort into his songwriting and studio recordings. Know what I mean? Keep up the great work, Scot. Thanks!
Hey Scot! Thanks to your collection, I remembered the wonderful summer album Sung Tongs from Animal Collective, and listened to it, what a tribal experience! And also, this Gentle Giant T-shirt is pretty awesome. I remember getting Steven Wilson's remix of this record at the beginning of the year, it sounds really good! ✌️
Awesome! Whenever i see Mass-Media Stars i get excited. Probably my favourite RPI album along with Locanda delle Fate. And just a word about Jon Anderson. Song of Seven has always been my favourite from him. And i need that vinyl so badly too!
nice idea!..I did this on my channel as well, a little less than a year ago, once I got my Record Room set up. This should be really fun to see what you have and what you may not have in your collection. I may do a follow-up the Vinyl A-Z series I did last year with a CD A-Z series at some point after I finish some other projects (1 project at-a-time, lol).
Aloha: I've never got totally into however, CALE PARKS from Aloha released an amazing EP produced by Brian Jacobs of Apes & Androids/Call Florence Pow titled "To Swift Mars" from 2009.
Appreciate the video, Scott. Looking forward to you going through the alphabet. It'll be interesting to see how many you have in Z other than Zappa. As for my A list, I have not nearly as many as you do. I have Algiers, Au Pairs, Albert Ayler, An Albatross and a few others. This series is going to be fun.
I keep all my Pollard together because there are so many different band names that I can’t keep track of them all when they are peppered alphabetically throughout my collection haha
No "Audience"? You should try to get their album "The House on the Hill"; maybe you've heard it. I love it. And that self-titled Ambrosia album, which you have, is AMAZING!
Wow, a lot of stuff that I've never heard of, and I'm old (67). I do have a copy of the Aqua Fragile album (bought it back in the 70's, soon after Bernardo L. joined PFM-love it). Nice G.G. T-shirt...I have not seen any reviews of the recent version of "The Missing Piece" from you or Pete Pardo, Brendon Synder, I, like most G.G. fans , did not really care for tracks 2-5, but the rest is fantastic IMO.
I saw the tour, Spring of '77, and they played the song "Winning" (with percussion backing tape) ,but I would love to hear a live version from that tour..but there was none on the live box, or any of the bootlegs...."memories of old days" was amazing -live.@@TheProgCorner
Ugh! I missed out on All Traps on Earth and I think it's selling for prices comparable to the Anglagard albums now! I do have all of the Anekdoten albums and I picked up the first in the new set of Landberk reissues, though.
Olias, Song of Seven, and Animation by sweet-scented avatar, Johannes Anderson are my favorite mentions here. Impressive breadth of ear, Monsieur. I knew but few in the As. Much to explore, starting with Animal Collective and Jon's colab with Flower Kings. How wondrous is that! My friend and linguist George Lakoff said "love is a collaborative work of art." See also: "Metaphors We Live By".
I hoped you had that Aviary album. I saw them on that one tour they did, opening for... I think UFO? Great harmonies, and some great proggy rickenbacker bass. I seriously thought they were going places, but no.
Good stuff. Just added several of these into your Musical Musings. =) I'll assume you have The Alan Parson's Project under the T's. =) No Aphrodite's Child...good for you. =) Could use some A.C.T.
My favorites you've got in the "A" list Acqua Fragile (you should get their first self titled too amazing) and the first 2 Ambrosia releases. Scot how can I contact you? I'd like to send you a album (?maybe you've never heard before?)
Hey Scot! I seriously thought when you said Swedish pop, that we would see some ABBA in your collection. Nothing wrong with that, certainly none of us would judge you for it (at least I hope not)
Well since Jon Anderson is mentioned in this video and being judged is mentioned in this thread, I thought this would be a good place to do a “what if” that my friends would judge me for. What I mean by that is that I’m always coming up with ideas for the “dream team” all-star bands and existing bands touring together, to the point where my friends just roll their eyes and think I’m crazy (but in a good way, like the way people need at least one crazy friend to tell interesting stories about). Let’s say Jon is planning a farewell tour and recruits Tony K on keys (both men pushing 80). Assuming that Bill Bruford is not coming out of retirement (I think he would be better suited for that Beat project if he did, anyway…), let’s say it’s Simon Phillips on drums. His skill set would have it that he would be suitable in the shoes of Bill and Alan White in any context. Then to round it out, Steve Morse and Geddy Lee (assuming he DOES come out of retirement). I don’t see why this couldn’t work but is it too far fetched?
Atlantis Philharmonic was from Cleveland. Only made that one album. Got a chance to see them live (backing the Raspberries I think) at St Pascals Church gym. They could do most of that album live and were amazing to watch. 2 guys, Royce Gibson on drums and Joe DiFazio on everything else, which was an understatement. He would play the keys with one hand, guitar in the other hand (using hammer-ons & pulloffs) and the bass pedals with his feet, all at the same time.
In addition to a couple of yours that I own,: Abigail's Ghost - Black Plastic Sun Air - Moon Safari Airbäg - The Greatest Show On Earth, (A brilliant album) Aisles - The Yearning Alquin - Mountain Queen (1970s impulse buy) Aphrodite's Child - 6 6 6 Also Eden - [Redacted] (Great band with Airbag and Porcupine Tree Vibes - not a fan of vocals) Atomic Rooster - Death Walks Behind You
To get into post-extreme Anathema I would suggest you to start with Judgement and then check out Weather Systems which is one of their best among the last ones. P.S. You should totally add some Ayreon/Arjen Lucassen stuff to your A's. This guy's works are always perfectly packaged and the music is divine (well you know that for sure).
this is the best idea. gonna watch B-Z. the Avett/ Clash similarity made me comment on the 'Debunked' video (the album, top left, one in, reminded me of Tubeway Army's first album). i'd have liked to have seen 'disturbing the peace' by Alcatrazz featuring the world's greatest singer, Graham Bonnet (Gary Puckett and Matt Monro are close by).
That was fabulous! 😊 I ain't got any of your A collection! 😆 Love that you have Adam Ant...I need to get that! Looking forward to your B's....love the Bee cushion.
Auroras new album, what happend to the heart , released a few days ago. She's getting more and more exsperimental(Progy). Brian Eno made a remix of one of the songs,(A soul with no king). If you like scandinavian pop this will blow you away🤘
Doin’ something diffrunt, heh?! Why not by calmly opening the show with an easy and gently “Hello my dear followers, this is your host Scott from Prog Corner ….”. Ok, Scottie, what’s up? How about a rundown on musicians that used odd instruments?! Like tambourines…. 🤪 Now I am being stupid. A like in Arena or Ars Nova or Angelo Branduardi, maybe? PS just wonder how you deal with Älgarnas Trädgård or treat them as Garden of Elks?! Also thinking of Asia Minor. And my moscovian groups like Agata Kristi and Auktsion.
I figured most people would assume I meant ABBA when I said it was a pop group from Sweden!!! No. No ABBA in the collection. My wish list is ENORMOUS!!!
@@TheProgCorner early ABBA can be abit corny, later ABBA has some great pop songs like Head Over Heels (that chromaticism) or The Day Before You Came (beautiful lyrics). Well, very different from Zappa or Yes.
