I have honestly never had a problem with ANY new Bosch fuel pumps! Very surprised at your issues.... I have replaced several hundred of them over the years at this point. I have also tried a new Pierburg pump in my C140 (1998 CL600) and that one actually leaks down fuel pressure after about an hour, causing a hard start every time. Very disappointing! As i'm sure you know, a Genuine MB part is always your best bet for quality... IF it's available. However, I have had quality issues with several new MB parts over the years as well. It seems like the quality of new parts in general is slowly declining obviously and even Genuine MB aren't immune. :\

I have a w124 and went through 4 Bosch fuel pumps in 30 months. My region has converted to E20.

Have just replaced the fuel pump on my W124 E280 (here in Perth also). Went with the Walbro (TI Automotive) GSL 393 for a single-pump solution. Mounting The Walbro comes with a foam sleeve, which when on the pump matches the OD of the original pumps and is effectively bolt-in in this regard. I have a single-pump carrier bracket enroute but as a temporary measure I've just left one of the original pumps in its place (obviously with nothing connected to it) to fill the space in the dual-pump carrier and keep everything secure - and honestly you could do this long term if you really wanted to. Plumbing, General - The Walbro has M10x1.0 threads at either end. Plumbing, Outlet - The original check valve is also M10x1.0, hence no issues on this side, but I've had issues aligning the interconnecting hard pipe between the pump & filter due to the grip of the foam in the house. I'll give it another crack, but the alternative is to upgrade the fittings here, and Aeroflow et al have a suite of fittings that will work (fuel filter is M12x1.5 for what it's worth). Plumbing, Inlet - You'll need a barb with an OD of anywhere from 14.5mm to 15.5mm. You *can* crank down hard on a hose clamp for a 1/2" barb, but I wouldn't recommend it. What I've done is use an M10x1.0 to -10AN adaptor (Aeroflow AF743-10) with a -10AN Swivel Barb Adaptor (Aeroflow AF417-10)...though I did this because I incorrectly assumed the native barb size for -10AN would be 5/8" and hence 15.9mm OD...wrong - the barbs are 18mm or so OD. So I had a mate machine down the barb to 15mm on the flat with a tiny lip at the end to help seal. Inlet fuel hose from the tank goes on perfectly. Alternative, I did throw together a design for a custom fitting, but it was going to cost me $200 cash in brass, possibly cheaper in 6061 but I didn't want to bother with anodising for longevity. Unfortunately I now have fuel pissing out of Injector #3...fantastic...car remains off the road for now. Hope my experience helps.

question - is there any technical reason you cannot run 2 walbro gsl’s in series like the original setup? I would like the option of switching back at any time in future to the original pumps and not permanently modify.

OH! And you'll just love this one... lol. I have always used Chinese radiators in all my own cars, and customer's cars forever and have never actually had a single problem. The one time I ordered a new Genuine MB radiator for my 1995 S320 it actually started leaking internally somehow and mixing coolant and ATF after only a year! Obviously it was tremendously expensive compared to the Chinese counterpart. I guess you just never can tell apparently.
@MMWA-DAVE
@MMWA-DAVE 4 месяца назад
wow thats shocking. Its so demoralising when expensive parts dont last. I have not personally tried a CN radiator yet but from what I saw they seem ok. The euro made stuff seems like nothing to get excited about these days. I was very disapointed with the quality of the SKF water pump and Wahler thermostat on the M113. They dont even grind off the casting flashing on the hose fittings anymore. I had to do it myself.

I cant make that make sence inmy head. I really cant lol. thats called the wrong coolant and a gasket failure
@Johnathan_Waters
@Johnathan_Waters 4 месяца назад
@@Mitutumuch I can't either. I assure you I did not use the incorrect coolant type. Replacing the radiator again (yes, with a CN version) folly solved the problem of ATF in the coolant.

There are counterfeit Bosch pumps being sold at reputable parts places. I’d look to convert to a Walbro.
@athompson8976

The fake bosch pumps can fool a bosch dealer at this point. Best thing to do is find a 044 clone from a "race" brand and use it. And technically bosch no longer makes the 044; if you read the fine print they have a new version of the 044: it does NOT give 5bar @ 300lph.

An extremely worrying situation. I am still running the (Bosch) pumps that came with my .051 when I bought it 14 years ago. Working fine and quiet as a mouse. Apparently Goss pumps are high quality but dear as poison. Goss number is GE 073. Some people recommend Hella 8TF 358 303-281 which can be found pretty cheaply from Spareto etc. but I fear that they are made in China these days.

I just had the same problem come up on my 190e. I bought a pair of new bosch pumps. I guess i'll see how long they last, but the ones that came out looked to be original. I have tried some of the cheapo chinese universal fit pumps and found atleast the ones I got to be really poor quality, no surprise there

These must be knock off pumps ? They look identical. Where did you buy them from, not that changes much.
@Mitutumuch
@Mitutumuch 4 месяца назад
eeeeew. those the oooooold ones. I changed mine with nylon lines. But the aftermarket pumps dont have a large enough ratio like the flow rate is very drastic on the mb bosch pumps. You can get the blue tape ones. thats what I got for mine. but those older ones, im suprised it looks so good and is leaking like that. it must have been hit by something idk. sabotage is the only explanation. BUT. PUT A BARB ON IT. PUt a fuel line clamp that bolts on the barb and i PROMISE you wont have issues unless its not tight enough. Its like a 5/16 or so. banjo fittings on the fuel pump thats something Ive never seen and been under a lot of benzes. MANY BENZES. so idk this aint normal lol.
@brittanywright9646
@brittanywright9646 4 месяца назад
Banjo fittings were done when the engineers were designing and building MBs. Now all the design and engineering is done by accountants. Newer models don't even have a full-size spare anymore, despite the cars have 2-3 times more room than the earlier models.

*For the most part* the aftermarket Bosch 044 are good; but they are performance based and therefore very loud. After 4 of these bosch in 30 months I converted to a single aftermarket 044 racing pump which claims to be compatable with E20. It is shockingly loud.... But Ill take an annoying sound over E20 spraying all over the car and cabin filling with fumes.

I forgot to mention; I found the mercedes OEM fuel filtration to be obsolete and now run an aftermarket filter from an Australian company called TurboSmart.

@@MMWA-DAVE that is odd. Did the Part number get superceded? Something Bosch did stopped is making "044" fuel pumps and superceded it into slimmer pump. spec wise it's better but personally i dont know.

Auto Electrical components, particularly electro mechanical are almost universally 12 month warranty and have been for a long time. Looking at the likely cause of the 088 pump failures which I believe to be the O ring type case seal id say its due to a change in materials to a more eco sustainable type as a lot of the original materials from the 1970's are now taboo in EU Countries... I blame Tofu munching hippies :-)
