Serdar Arat talks about how students in the Digital Age have weaker memory skills and how he introduced a new teaching method in his Art History lectures to help students overcome their difficulties.
Serdar Arat is a visual artist, exhibiting internationally since the 1980’s, primarily in New York City, Istanbul, and Chicago, among others. His work as an artist is characterized by shaped paintings on canvas and wood, with dimensional surfaces, and metaphorical images of vents, sirens, and shadows, as well as sculptural landscapes in cast bronze and mixed media. A short documentary film, These Paintings Cast Shadows, by Kenneth Calhoon, exploring the process of Arat’s work was completed in 2013. His awards and grants as an artist include Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant, and 4th Asian-European Biennial Painting Award, Ankara Turkey.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

Basically memory comes easier if you make the information or concept personal and understanding the information in a way that makes sense to you. The images students used drawing on their notes and giving a name to something that already has a given name are ways for personalizing the things you need to remember.

Very engaging. I like the metaphor of weaving concepts. Also, the coincidental relationship between Beijing National Stadium (BNS) and Birds Nest Stadium (BNS), is a great memory aid to remember.

Once again, someone says something obvious is counter-intuitive. If people don't have to memorize things, their memorization gets worse. What is counter-intuitive about that?

Does Rotogenflux Methods really work? I notice a lot of people keep on speaking about Rotogenflux Methods. But I'm not sure if it's good enough to improve your IQ in a short period of time.
