so it finally arrived! after 8 months!!! I can say that the FRONT CROSS TRAFFIC ALERT! is now muted!!! they fixed it!!!! also the hybrid system is super smooth!!!! it is seamless and the transmission is buttery smooth!!!! they fixed out a lot of the kinks a lot of reviewers complained about!!! Love the RX500h! Also the Mark Levinson is amazing!!!! also people are tripping about the fuel economy... you know how much TORQUE and HP this vehicle makes??? sure the 0-60 times aren't the FASTEST but the car feels quick and energetic!! also the ride quality is amazing!!! extremely smooth but also dynamic! feels like you're on a monorail train! also the MPG is great! the city and highway are great mpg.
I have the rx500h now for almost 10,000 km and i have to say it is a very very good car. It is sporty and very comfortable, one word to describe it: smooth. Avg about 9.4L/100km.
I’ve had the RX 500h for a month now and had no problem getting 31 mpg in normal mode in city and 30 mpg in highway at 75mph average. I’ve been very surprised to exceed the estimates.
6:30 This is a valid safety issue at stoplights / stop signs because of people running the light or not stopping for the sign. I speak from personal experience - just a few months ago, I had nearly been T-boned by a Challenger running a red light, going 60. I stepped on the gas gently to get going when the lights turned green for me, and said Challenger flew by, missing my car by only a few feet. It ended up taking off the front end of another car to my right, but that could have easily been me. In other words, I think that front traffic detection is a good thing, although it could be tuned / adjusted to stop giving those false positives when you're at a light. Instead of giving those warnings when you're stopped, only activate the system and start monitoring for moving traffic when you take your foot off the brake and step on the gas.
I like the looks, but I'm done with 4 cylinders in large vehicles. They just lack the sound and smoothness of a proper 6 cylinder. I'd much rather wait for the next generation of EVs than buy these stop gap motors.
I agree. Without a larger, smoother engine, I have zero desire for this. I should have bought a 2021 RX350 while I had the chance. My next SUV will likely be an MDX or upper trim Pilot.
Me too, I finally got my RX450h (2022) had to wait months for it to get its Mark Levinson chip. On the highway it gets 31 mpg (in cold weather!). City driving though is about 23mpg which is weird, you'd think the hybrid would do better in city driving. I have the Fsport/handling. Its actually quite fun to drive, smooth, quiet and everything I was expecting. I like having hard button controls, and I like its analog clock and CD player, I will use these. Also knowing I have the reliability of the tried and true V6. If the 500 F proves reliable over the next few years and they work out some of the tech bugs (like changing drive mode via multiple touch screens, that's crazy!), I may upgrade at that time but for now I'm so happy with my 2022.
Great review! I am curious about two items mentioned: 1) Can you readily limit the cross traffic assist notifications which appear in the HUD? 2) Can you limited the amount of information appearing in the HUD? I had the same experience with another make/model until I limited the info to what I needed to see visually in my line of site.
I just recently bought the 2023 350 F sport (same thing just no hybrid powertrain). You have the ability to limit cross traffic assist in the menu of driver assists. And, you can also limit the HUD info but it's set to either "less" "Normal" or "full". Best thing is to test one out at your local dealership!
Can the cross traffic alerts be switched off?? If not that could be a big issue for me as I’d be very annoyed with the constant noise and blinking lights!!
I like the idea of having the HUD be more prominent than the gauge cluster. But having that cross traffic warning constantly go off whenever a car goes by would be fairly annoying.
Good true review👏👏👏👏👏......subscribed to you🎉🎉. We are short of HONEST reviews except Scotty😂😂😂... Get us more videos of night drive, mechanical details, how good is awd, comparisons, snow & offroad performance etc.
Am i the only one that thinks that HUD looks terrible? Also the ungodly amount of shiny gloss black plastic trim all over makes the dash layout look cheap
I think it looks terrible. I much prefer the hud in mainstream Toyotas The hud in my Toyota Camry looks way better than this and it’s much much easier to use and honestly more luxurious looking too
First review to tell/demonstrate to me about the bugs with the HUD and hybrid transitions. The third reviewer to identify that the fuel ratings are not being achieved by Lexus which is huge. Thanks I'm glad I watched.
@@mervinprone Which part? Usually the only stuff that isn't finalized on pre-production is fit and finish items since the cars are hand-built sometimes.
@@MattMaranMotoring Virtually everything is controlled by a computer now. There may have been some reflashing completed to update the systems subsequent to your experience wth the car. This isn’t the first kick at the can for Lexus with hybrids and they would want everything to be perfect.
That front cross traffic alert is really annoying . Wind drone noise is a defect as is inability to fill gas tank fully. Factory low beams set dangerously low. Other than that...good!
Another thoughtful review, thank you! The front cross-traffic-alert may be a pain in the ass, but in the Atlanta Metro area, we have HUGE issues with people running red lights. If I'm at a 4-way intersection, I now wait a second or two after the light turns to go. So in my estimation, I'd rather have the system continue as it does, because it will help further protect me, the family, and my investment. 🙂
For a Toyota/Lexus product, I am surprised that the rough transition between gas and electric on the hybrid system. The intrusive and complicated HUD and cross-traffic alert is a deal breaker for me.
It's sad that the youtube algorithm favors other automotive reviewers when Matt is honestly one of the select few that actually states his opinions rather than just stating obvious facts. Way too many automotive journalists now are simply just "this is good because it's expensive, the touch screen is touchable, look at this state of the art drive selector".
Lexus has gone another way this time by sacking the V6 and if they were really serious about performance they’d borrow the Supra’s twin scroll turbo I6. That may be deserving of the RX-F badge.
Very different experiences, MDX is bigger so it’s say it’s feels a little more floaty and large than the RX, but it has the better powertrain and AWD system in my opinion, and more luxury like massaging seats. Personally I’d probably get the MDX Type S if I had to pick between the two.
That’s what I tried to tell everyone from the get go that the RX was dead on arrival. Yet nobody listened. Instead they laughed at me I believe you were one of those people too. So I’m glad you’re disappointed The RX performance is as fast as my Toyota Camry v6 😂
@@bigmoney1250 it’s not faster than the type S. Even the MDX with its torque limiting in the lower gears is still faster than this 😂 The is500 fit reference has 472hp more power than the m340i. Yet the m340i will destroy it
The 350 requires premium gas too. The 350h is the only one that can use regular gas. Maybe you just misspoke. Thanks for the review. Another reviewer said another close competitor is Volvo PHEV SUVs.
Thanks for watching! I clarified a few seconds later that I was talking about the 350h, sorry if that wasn't clear. Volvo's PHEVs are somewhat competitors, but I didn't cover them because they're more expensive and there isn't really one that directly competes. The XC60 is considered a compact SUV and the XC90 is a midsize 3-row that's a good bit bigger than this. If you're willing to go up or down in size and don't mind paying more, the Volvos are great, they just don't handle as well. But having the electric range is definitely nice.
Something interesting , there is no drive shaft it has an electric motor driving the rear wheels, Toyota might use this same hybrid system on the 2024 Tocoma, if this happens it will be the first Tacoma without a drive shaft.
The U.S. division of Toyota and Lexus are headquartered in Texas so that’s where they register their press fleet vehicles before they send them all over the country to reviewers.
No that’s the gv80. Gv70 is the nx competitor But even still this is a bad luxury car. Not because im a hater. I can rightfully justify why. A gv70 gv80 are better. In fact anything else beats this
@@Kingnumber-nd9cl that 2020 RX is somewhat luxurious. The new one looks more like a Toyota inside. In fact if you remove the Lexus logo I can guarantee you’d say nice interior for a Toyota Put it this way. Drive an MDX or gv80 or even a Jeep Grand Cherokee summit and then drive the new RX. Then see if the RX has them all beat in luxury because chances are the RX will lose badly in that department
@@naveenthemachine mmk, show me any one of those mentioned above with 200,000 miles on the odo, stock engine, and not a single warning light. I know of a lexus that has 1 million miles on the clock and the engine has been unopened. While those competitors look pretty tempting, here's why i didn't get them: BMW: don't want a car that looks like a pig Mercedes: don't want the same car with an extra $20k price tag Acura/genisis: don't want to drive 70 km to the nearest dealer Jeep: Dont need seven seats, or 9.6L/100km
Thanks Rafee! We'll see about the gauge clusters, there's been attempts in the past to minimize or get rid of them, and Tesla does it in the 3/Y but yeah I'd rather have a good cluster over a HUD any day, but HUDs are growing in popularity.
Also remember these are Summer tires driven on cold roads. A recipe for a ton of road noise. I'm sure it would be substantially better with All-Season tires. But yea, I wasn't too impressed with the road noise. Still better than Honda/Acura, but not what I expect from Lexus.
I don't think he turned off the "Active Sound Control " (= fake engine noise) in this vehicle. Turn it off and it should sound a lot quieter. See the Kelly Blue Book review on this vehicle for more information
Some of the roads I'm driving on in this video were rougher and generate more noise. It's pretty quiet inside typically and is on par with others in this segment.
Matt, I really appreciate your way of thinking when reviewing these cars; thus, I'm watching your reviews. A small input would be to watch out for the "you know". All of us use verbal crutches to some level, but as a professional presenter, one would do well to keep them to a minimum. This "nitpicky" input is a testament on your potential as a presenter. So, please take it as a compliment as well.
I appreciate the support Mark. The "umms" and "you knows" have always been a struggle for me. I think I've improved a little over the years, and I try to cut out some of them in the edit where I can, but it's something I continue to work on improving, along with being more concise and rambling less.
It baffles me anyone would buy this considering it falls apart as a luxury car in just about every way imaginable I can’t think of a single reason to choose this over an MDX or gv80 or aviator, nautilus, grand Cherokee summit, telluride palisade cx9 Santa Fe calligraphy etc. it doesn’t excel in anything yet it’s expensive. Dead on arrival. Typical Lexus. Screwing up everything left and right top to bottom Don’t fall for Lexus pathetic marketing. This isn’t a luxury car. It’s not even a premium car. It’s a mainstream+ at best. I could really go in detail as to why and how it falls apart, but knowing that I’ve established myself as the internets biggest Toyota hater😂 I think all of you can figure it out 😂
@@TheBrudol you ordered two because you’re way to easy to influence when it comes to Lexus products. You see a Lexus and it’s automatically the best to you without looking at other vehicles that do whatever Lexus does in luxury car attributes but only a lot better
@@naveenthemachine nope but it seems to me you want to play the game 'let a random person give you psychoanalysis on YT'. My turn. You seem to me like a very frustrated person who goes on YT lecturing people to raise your self esteem and tell the world that your camry V6 is better. Perhaps it is, perhaps its not. Practice gratefulness for what you have and let others enjoy theirs. I will enjoy lexus regardless.
Awesome review Matt. Great job explaining the safety tech, the head up display and being honest. This is a great car for my dad but the biggest problem is the amount of technology it has and he probably has no clue how to use it
@@MattMaranMotoring 44 year old dad here. I bought a 500H and love it and the tech. Specifically the customization of the HUD. FWIW also, my employees are all in their 20’s and can’t figure out technology issues, basically ever. Probably people in their 60’s struggle with tech, but below that, it’s anyone’s guess if someone will be good with tech (which basically means able to figure stuff out).
