I feel for you. I'm in the Perth (hills), and rely on the Marri for my nectar. It also seems to come in two year cycles. Last year only got 16kg. This year 80kg. I'm in it for the Love, because sometimes it is so frustrating. As the season comes to an end, I wish you well.

At the end you had 2 frames of brood that you took out to make room in the bottom of a hive that was full. Maybe next time you can add the extra brood to one of your smaller/struggling hives to help them build up numbers.

Hi. After a terrible spring I had great expectations for a good summer, should the sun finally arrive, But I was once again let down by the weather ( overcast ) and the seasons, and although I badly wanted some spring honey my hopes were dashed, In Dec I was still adding boxes because they appeared to be filling the boxes well, then the overcast stayed, we had blossoms galore but with little nectar and upon inspection in Jan I decided to reduce them to three full deeps, I replaced poor frames with some with patchy honey from the top boxes, and decided to crush and strain anything left after the reduction. From five good working hives I only got around 15 litres from some very patchy frames, only around 5 or 6 full ones, The hives are now back to three box configuration and we well and truly in dearth. Counting on some autumn weeds to set them up for the winter but not hopeful, so I am buying up sugar and wholemeal soy flour and preparing for a long winter again, four miserable years in a row. Keep smiling buddy, I don't know what your bees are on at this time of the year but ya gotta make hay while the sun shines.

And I thought I was doing it tough. Feeding is the worst. It just feels so ridiculous. Have you seen that product Agrisea? A seaweed additive for feed? People rave about it here and I have had some positive results from using it. Hope it’s an easy winter for you.

@@aussiebeekeepingThanks, I was trying to point out that there has been a serious season shift where I am I have in my long life never seen so much overcast, the past few years I have had to leave any honey on the bees. This year I have managed to get a taste at least but the total output so far is much less than my old output from each hive. But you have to look on the bright side at least they are surviving.

Watching your channel is part of my on going therapy. (Forcing myself to deal with the fear after a neighbor's aggressive hive attacked me) Your calm voice, command of knowledge, and love for your bee's has helped tremendously. I'm glad you are finally seeing an up tick in production. Thanks again!

I thought when a colony swarms the old queen leaves just before the new queens start to hatch. Could you have an emergency or supersedure going on? Just a thought.

If you want better honey you need happier, healthier bees. You move too fast and need to make slower movements, make less noise, and not use a loud vaccuum with them. In some of your videos i see you put the hives of comb on the ground, this can contaminate your honey and possibly spread disease. When you disorient the bees by tearing into the hive you need to be mindful of how you're going about it to get the best results :) if you get bad tasting honey it could be that it's contaminated or there's just too much moisture in the hive. You can do this by making holes on the bottom so debris can also fall through when the bees tidy up all the time. Also, making a vent at the top of the hives can prevent them from overheating and making your honey go bad.
