Stair issue - put planks the are vertical between the steps so it appears solid to him. My pup does the same thing but i noticed it was only with stairs that had open areas under the stairs. When solid he tackles the stairs without issue.

Ryan, as part of Kyper's training at this age you should add hand signals to his voice commands. Dogs are very in tune with visual cues. After a while you won't have to say a command you can just simply use the hand signal. He's adorable.

The obvious cause of his stair fright is that he hurt himself on the stairs and you didn't see it. I wonder if he has an eye sight problem... Probably he is just fine but this is some strange behaviour for sure.

Try intentionally dropping the water bottle in the same spot, while he is watching you do it. Doing this repetitively will teach him what created the sound originally. If the sharp sound of the water bottle startled him then you are going to have to start training early so that he can get used to the range; those sounds will really scare him if you don't train early.

You need to be careful with the grating of your trailer. His toenails can get stuck from my experience. My dog jumped up into my trailer, and her toenail wedged in the grating she panicked to get free and ripped her toenail off. Had to take her to the vet in a hurry because the bleeding would not stop.

Kiper has that kind of temporary puppy PTSD just re-live the moment with him? But with you while he feels protected by your safety in other words drop the bottle to make the sound but be right beside him to comfort him so he knows not to be afraid of the sound. Just like you did with the vacum & he will understand that he doesn't have to be afraid of it. The reason he goes right up & down when you have him on the leash is because as you said "YOU HAVE HIM" on a leash, he knows you are protecting him from what he fears. Just go over it again & he will see its just a sound, after he gets it he will quickly adjust to that NOT being a memory of fear but just a sound. I'd say you need to work on sounds with him everyday more then anything other than knowing his safety commands. Since he is going to live in the woods he needs to know what sounds to fear, to alert you too, & to just think of as eh, that's just Dad working on something. The more he learns from this early age the better I'd work on making him comfortable with what will be his most commonly heard sounds everyday. Best of Luck! And as always L❤VE from Kentucky!

Yup, chew stuff for dogs always smells horrible. Not sure if it's a thing over the pond (and what it's called in english), but the less nasty stuff is beef head skin. Doesn't last super long however. I think lamb hoofs are also a thing. Or was it beef hoof? Lasts quite a bit longer. Don't know about the smell though.

In regards to the pup getting scared of the cabin steps. You could give him another option. If you build a ramp off the side of the cabin porch? Stoop? Whatever you call it. He would probably use that for a while until he figured out the steps are shorter and he gets over his fear. Bonus…you can wheel heavy objects up to the cabin entrance. Bonus #2, you’re also now handicap accessible. Bonus #3, we get to watch you build another cool project.

Be careful. Will survives dog died from eating something in the woods and getting an obstruction in his gut. If the dog suddenly starts acting weird take it to a vet immediately for an xray. I'd hate to see another good dog die. I think you're MUCH MORE competent a dog owner than Will, but it really is kind of unavoidable. Dogs wander, and they want to eat everything.

Doors are a pain period sometimes they wont open because ur house shifts I got one right now and I worked for a door maker in Denver you either gotta be a brute for punishment or you gotta love what your doing. I used to have to haul doors on a flat bed truck or a box truck and you can never have too many straps n most were metal doors like for brick buildings this guy who made them was like a machinist all specialty tools depending how exact they needed to be it would drive me crazy just watching the guy sometimes and he did a lot of specialty doors. But thats all we did "just doors" I think it was a family owned thing. N a friend recommended me to take the hinges off n Duh brilliant Idea cuz I couldnt get the door open as I wanna buy several new fridges. I used to deliver for menards n the worst days were delivering appliances. Cuz nobody ever had the doors removed so another waste of time that you dont get paid for to get the old ones out and the new ones in or you have to disassemble the appliance to fit through the door opening fun huh? And usually you by your self n no help oh boy. There were times you had to have help like going up steps or a porch n you had to lift something straight up as it wouldnt fit the steps or stair case. So I can relate to having back problems to I got my own "inversion table" from walmart for a hundred bucks n thats the best hundred bucks I spent in my life that has saved me a ton of money. I mean five to ten minutes of no pain almost instantly. and often no adjustments needed you back can adjust itself sometimes just hanging there upside down or twist n turn a little n it snaps back into place. Youll feel it n hear it n itll be like instant relief. even laying on a slant board anything that takes the weight off your back for a while./ I still have that sucker in a garage n I will not sell it ever.

To fix the dog, you just have to build another cabin and start over 🤣 jk. That is a strange one. I think over time of nothing negative happening when walking through it that it will probably go away over time. Just keep working with him and encouraging positively the few times he may walk through. Maybe the screen door will change things as well. You could try to show him the scenario again in a more controlled way and show him that it is what made the noise, etc.

Train him to come with a whistle tweet. Carries farther for when he (he will) wanders a bit too far. A good whistle can be heard a mile away. Also, get him used to you dropping things in different places. And if he won't follow, close the door and leave him on the other side for a minute. Repeat as necessary. Alway be a cheerleader for every good thing he does. Yelling won't help train a dog. You want the pup to WANT to do something right. Not fear doing something wrong.

When they get spooked by something help them overcome it with lots of practice, praise and treats. Put his leash in and walk in and out over and over again. Every time you step in the house give him a treat. Every time you get to the bottom of the stairs give him a treat. Keep going several times a day till he is over it. You can also purposely drop the water bottle a distance away from him….give a treat. Repeat. Show him it's just a noise and no reason to fear. At his age it’s a fear period….very normal but can worsen if he doesn’t have help getting through it.

Build a railing with a top (like a counter) around the Gazebo on the inside of the crooks of the corner supports. Then Wire screen the inside of the railing making storage between the "wire screen" and the outside bug screen. Dog does not get the supplies and does not tear the bug screen. Wa la, lots of airflow, no damage, and the cat can only get in so far under the counter.

Tip to help Kieper to know where the sound of the water bottle made the noise, set on the porch, have him on his leash, let him sniff the bottle then tap it on the porch a few times getting louder each time and allow him to sniff it between times. Do it a few more times for a few days, he will recognize the sound and that should desensitize him and he wont be afraid of the sound any more.
