NEW Updated 2019 Video - Using Shure QLXD for Wireless Sound!

In this video, I talk about the Sennheiser Receivers & Transmitters that I use to transfer sound wirelessly to my speakers.
Thanks to Agiprodj.com for this amazing solution!

Using a wireless speaker system can be helpful for complex room layouts where you want to enhance the sound experience for your clients and their guests.
In the 1st example of the video, the bar is in a separate room from the main ballroom. If the guests are outside getting drinks at the bar, they won't know what's happening inside unless there is a speaker there to hear the music and announcements. Running an XLR cable from inside to the cocktail hour area is one solution, but it takes time, looks messy, and can be a trip hazard if not taped properly. The easiest solution is to use the Sennheiser Wireless Speaker System.
This system uses 2-AA batteries to power the transmitter and receivers. The transmitter is connected to the output of a mixer to the receiver connected to the input of a speaker. Make sure both are using the same channel and, presto! You transferred sound wirelessly! There are even levels readouts displayed on the transmitter and receivers so you know the range is good and that audio is coming out of them.
In the 2nd example of the video, I was in a rectangular shaped room and wanted to spread out my 2 RCF Evox 8 Speakers along the longer side of the room. My 2nd RCF Evox 8 speaker is positioned on the far, opposite corner of the room from where I'm stationed. Either I can run a 100-foot cable from my mixer across the 4 doorways and tape the cable, or I can use the Sennheiser Wireless Speaker System to save time and achieve a cleaner look. I chose the latter. By doing this, I achieved a balanced sounding reinforced room with minimal effort and the guests were able to hear the same balanced sound wherever they go in the room.
Overall, I had my clients and guests' experience in mind. As much as we are DJs and generally like to put 2-speakers next to us, we also need to think about our guests' experience hearing the sound. Using a wireless speaker system such as this gives us more options to place other speakers to reinforce the room and make it a better sound experience for everyone.
I hope you enjoyed my thoughts on this system and hope you can use it at your events to make it a better experience for your clients.
Thanks for watching!

I've been djing. For years. I'm just curious about those little speakers on top of the polls.. When I look at that I just can't imagine how that could push a lot of sound and even sound decent.. Sorry just my opinion but every time I see those speakers it just doesn't look very professional it looks kind of cheap.. I would much rather see bigger speakers because when people see that they think of power and good sound.. I'm sure those speakers have good sound coming out of them but I just can't picture it..

Awesome video. I've had a serious question for years? hopefully You or some here can help me ... Do you just plug the output signal of your mixer (Sound Source) into the mic/line input of Senheiser transmitter? and it just knows the difference between line and mic input levels? or is there an adapter to lower the level somehow so it doesn't sound distorted?

My new setup is different kit.co/djmojoe/wireless-sound-kit-2-0-2021 I now run a 1/4” out male cable out of my mixer with a XLR male cable into my PSM900 transmitter. @dooshmasta
@dooshmasta 3 года назад
The cheaper way to do this is to buy the rack IEM transmitter and microphone receiver units on the same frequency band individually used on eBay to form the wireless system. They end up on eBay because the seller loses the body pack units through theft rendering the head units useless. The IEM transmitter usually goes for $200 and the receiver goes for $100 and you don’t have to worry about batteries because you power with a acdc adapter.
@dooshmasta
@dooshmasta 3 года назад
One thing to worry about in this setup is, you’ll need to take your line level signal and put it through a DI box to pad and balance the signal for the transmitter unit. It’s a few more cables and a $20 Pyle or Monoprice DI but totally worth it.

@djmojoeofficial
@djmojoeofficial 2 года назад
Good question! Delay issues, not so much, it just depends on where you place the speakers. If you have a DSP or have control of the delay of the sound on your speaker or mixer board, that can be helpful to delay the sound so that way it's heard at the same time. Not exactly sure if there's a delay feature on the unit itself. As an update, I now use Shure PSM900s as my wireless system. If you want to stick with Sennheiser, people are now using the G4s

So you and others in this thread have been running this for a while. Do you have issues with drop out? If there are a hundred bodies between the transmitter and receiver with cell phones are there issues? How about through walls? Please give me the bad with the good. :) Michael
@djmojoeofficial
@djmojoeofficial 5 лет назад
I’ve experienced drop outs only twice. One was either because of the walls of the venue where it had to go through 2 walls (it worked with other walls in other venues though). Can’t figure out whether it’s because of the walls or because of the channel it’s set to. When I used the channel at other places, it works out perfectly. You would need to find the best channel to use them. Other tip, do your best to elevate the receiver/transmitter devices if you can so they can pick up the signals. Let me know if you want to talk about it more. But they’re great and I enjoy using them. They may have a newer model of the Sennheisers the G4 which may make a better difference, I’m not too sure.

I figured you brought the one that comes with the two receivers and one transmitter. But do they give you extra wires to make the kits function better for a wireless speaker system? Also, I know they have various kits that are specifically tailored to using the EW 100 G3 for wireless speaker usage because you can buy the receivers and transmitters separately now. The EW 100 series was really invented for wireless mic use which confuses some people on how to actually use them for for wireless speaker set up. But anyway, Great video and thanks. 👍🏾👍🏾

@djmojoeofficial
@djmojoeofficial 5 лет назад
Hi Dale, great question! You can connect multiple receivers to 1 transmitter. I currently own 2 receivers and they work great (synced to the same channel as the transmitter). I'm not too exactly sure about its limitations in regards to how many receivers it can connect to. It's just picks up the signal so it should be fine because you're just taking up 1 channel/frequency. Maybe the limitations are distance and the depending on the room situation. But to answer your question, 2 receivers for sure, and possibly more in theory. Hope this helps!

DJ MoJoe Also forgot to mention I have the AC power adapter for the transmitter I use at my console. A little pricey for what it is but it works great. Saves the batteries for the remote units. If you have the plug on XLR transmitter it works great for shorter distances plugged right into the XLR out on the back of your powered speakers. No adapter cable and doesn’t need a place to hang it. AGIPRODJ has that on a you tube video.

Thanks for this video! I've been watching this option alongside the alto stealth option (another option for the same purpose but a little more tailor made - DJ Rick Webb has gone this route) for several years now. But I find it strange that there's so few options with wireless audio. Makes me think there's some major limitations that haven't hit mainstream and I'm reluctant to jump in. I would love to know more insight into why there's so few options.
@djmojoeofficial

you’re welcome! That’s a good question! maybe it’s not as high of a demand since most people hard wire their speakers. Maybe other manufacturers wait till the technology is more reliable or it’s not the best use of their time since there are a few systems out there that already do that. For the ones in my video, they’re mainly used for videography but I guess it’s a hack that with the right cable, it can work for speakers. Hope this helps!

Thanks Claudio, did you make sure they were all in the same channel? I normally hook my transmitter to the output of my DBX GoRack and the receivers to the inputs of QSC speakers. Also what do you mean by interfering? Do you hear something but just not clear? Or no signal at all?

Hey Mojoe thanks for the reply man, so i hooked my transmitter on my qsc and my receiver to another qsc, and from there i can't make the other receiver work with my 3rd qsc, there is no sound, and when i jump into the same channel it kicks out the other receiver and make a loud ssssssssss noise, i am able to sync on transmitter and one receiver with the instructions send but not with 2 receivers using 1 transmitter.

Hmm.. I’ve used 1 transmitter and been able to send audio to 2 receivers all in the same channel. Try it in a different room and this time experiment having all speakers near each other. @@djmojoeofficial why don't you the db settings going into the transmitter? it seems that most audio signals from a mixer are line out ...which would be going into this transmitter...which most of these transmitters are made for mics and most mics are mic level signals...does this line out signal going into a mic level transmitter cause problems with distortion because the gain is already high going into the transmitter?
@djmojoeofficial
@djmojoeofficial 4 года назад
What I do for this wireless system is that I set the switch to Mic on the back of my QSC k12 and bring up the dial by 2 or 3 clicks to have enough volume. If I switch it to Line on the back of the speaker, the volume is so low even at the maximum dial setting. Hope this answers your question. I can only explain what I did to get the results I have.

@TheVoiceofRwanda 3 года назад
@@djmojoeofficial so, for this system to work, you’ve got to have a speaker that has both Line/ Mic capabilities. If your powered speaker has just Line in, this device won’t work.
