We traveled to Florida and rode Tampa Mx & punta Gorda mx. The punta trip got cut short by bike failure. Hope you guys enjoy as I take you along the way
Holy shit , I just spent a.bunch of hours re building my carb , doing grips levers new tank and shrouds. The only thing I had left to do on my list was replace.my plug with a new NGK but I got lazy and never got to it! Man am I thankful I came across this video tonight because I would have definitely done that plug in the morning. Sorry bout your bike man that sucks but thank you for the video! For real !
I know plenty of people that have ran the same plug for 50+ hours , even then just change to freshen it up. Definitley shouldn’t break after around 10 hours. Hahah. Sad the quality has went down these days
Premium pump gas and a leantron carb will do that to you, throw that thing in a trash can mix your 50/50 race and pump gas and put the keihin back, also the weather from kentucky to Florida probably played a huge factor
Sadly you can look at the pics of the plug and see the bike was far from running lean , I would much rather this be a issue of me not adjusting my lectron properly rather then realizing and seeing in many yz250 groups on Facebook I’m in this has been super common lately with NGK quality issues. On 5 other bikes with factory keihin carburetor. So lectron hater or not , this was a spark plug quality issue , not the consequences of a lean condition. Thanks for watching !
only the second 2 stroke I've seen with the new front fender and number plate, looks sick! I'm surprised they don't have these come stock, all the curves compliment each other well. I put a 23 front end on my 2019 yz450f and think it looks pretty good. Awesome vids man, keep up the good stuff!
Couldn’t agree more! The new 2022+ plastic NEEDS the 24+ 250F/450F front fender and front number plate in my opinion. It’s super flowy and curvy no sharp pointy like the previous 15-21 plastic. I feel like the new 22+ is a perfect mix of old school / new school. Probably my favorite body style ! Thanks for watching appreciate it very much
I would run 40:1 or even 50:1 with high quality oil. Too much oil can give a lean air/fuel mixture. Either way, it totally sucks. :( Thankfully that wasn't the case here. What a bunch of BS that the tip of the plug broke off.
Bingo , very sad quality of metals these massive companies are using these days. I don’t even think it’s NGK’s fault. Probably whenever their metal provider is the raw material 3 steps before their plug is even made is poor quality metal. I don’t blame NGK to a extent , but I do believe maybe quality control should’ve caught the bad batch that’s went out. Or they should post a bulletin or something recall maybe.
I’ve done multiple plug tests with this lectron & measured metering rod, even richened it half a turn from the proper set length they sent it to me at (they recommended it be 2.084” I believe it was , I confirmed it was that length with calipers) & then I richened 1/2 turn. This was long before this incident. Around 5 hours of use on the carb probably after I added the FMF exhaust. I believe the misconception of lectrons blowing peoples bikes up are from maybe the few that make it out of there not setup properly , but it’s always the bike owner’s responsibility to ensure it’s running properly and setup right by doing plug tests. Which I done , and it was far from lean.
Find me on Facebook and add me , message me. We’ll Definitley rip someday. Checkout Nelson Valley MX , new track that just opened up in science hill KY , vlog checking it out will be uploaded tomorrow. Give it a watch , talk soon !
I'm just saying, you do not need to do the crank at 60 hours... I would do a new piston, main bearings, and seals, but I wouldn't spend all the money on the crank. You can EASILY get 100 hours out of the crank, especially if you're a C class rider
I Definitley agree with you ! But needing to do a crank and split the cases again 30-40 hours later I’d rather just go ahead and do all new while I’m in there so I know that I can enjoy it for 2 more top ends safely (hopefully) hahah. I plan on doing crank & main bearings every 100hrs , piston/rings every 50. checking all other bearings and seals while I’m in there each time that I can see of course. Thanks for watching !b
Idk it may have sounded a hair on the lean side but of course had the choke on so assuming that’s the cause. But I’m not sure , the plug Definitley doesn’t show it was running lean & metering rod was 1/2 turn richer than lectron sends it , power jet knob was 1 turn out. (They say never to go in anymore than 3/4 turn out) so that part wasn’t too lean. I’m not disagreeing with you possibly the bike was lean or not , I’m just saying don’t believe it was SO lean that it couldn’t handle more than 30 minutes of riding in Florida after being super rich and spooging for the previous 8 hours of riding in Kentucky. (When I’ve rode the bike with same carb and same setup it spooge a little bit running plenty rich) so I truly don’t know , I could be right or wrong , either way doesn’t explain the other 6 people I’ve found this has happened to in the last month & half , when you never heard anything about this happening in the past. Thanks for watching !!
@@JUSTINHAWKSMITH It could have been a self-detonation due to using low octane fuel, added to a bad configuration of the lectron, thanks for the video, good luck with the new repair
I would have 100% at least sent the crank out to somebody to inspect it. Even a small piece of metal like that can throw it off enough to cause problems down the line.
I agree with you for sure , I do believe I can get another 30-40 hours out of it and at that point I’m going to do another piston , entire crank & bearing kit. So as long as she lasts another 30-40 hours that’s all I ask of it. Which would only be a total of 55-60 hours out of a OEM Yamaha crank ridden by a C class rider , it should do it no problem , fingers crossed anyway. Lol thanks for watching!
Do you put highest octane in it? Going lean dont necesery mean detonation but can be from low octane fuel combined with high compression just a thought...!
Highest octane pump gas yes, 93 octane pump gas. I even always pump 2 gallons into my truck first to make sure it’s getting full 93 octane in case there was any 87 left in the hose at the pump. I think it’s just a metal quality issue with NGK & the metal heat fatigued and broke quicker than it should’ve.
@@JUSTINHAWKSMITH Yeah u might be right i always run platina sparkplug you the one with the supersmall points..! Harder to read the plug but never had a failure yet !
Dies Yamaha recommend 32:1 because I run 42:1...and I believe your head damage was detonation..hope you replaced it or got all those divots ground out....anyway sorry this happened to you and thanks for cool video.😁👍
@@Dirt_Bike_Dave I got a new head & the divots were from the piece of spark plug bouncing around inside the motor off the piston/head , no signs of detonation anywhere. Thanks for watching !!!!
