Day trip to Dazaifu to explore an Inari shrine and meet some awesome fox statues!
SUBSCRIBE for more Japan vlogs, ideas for things to do and trip planning tips!
Dazaifu is a popular day trip from Fukuoka (Kyushu) on the train. We went there and to Yanagawa on the same day, with the Dazaifu & Yanagawa Sightseeing Ticket from Nishitetsu railways. You can explore an old Japanese street with local snacks and souvenirs, Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine and a mysterious inari shrine in the woods (my fav!). There's also Kyushu National Museum, a theme park and more shrines to explore, so you could spend a whole day there if you wanted to.

枚 is for things that are thin and paper-like objects, like a piece of paper, train tickets, movie tickets, even t-shirts, bed sheet, paper/plastic bags ^_^
@cakeswithfaces
@cakeswithfaces 6 лет назад
Thanks, it's interesting that so many objects are grouped together, but it makes sense as they're all paper-like!

Hi Amy. I’ve been to Suzhou in China before. That is known and ‘Venice of the east’ named by Marco Polo in the 13th century then called soochow. 😉. I need some advice. I’m going Tokyo for 7 nights. Do I play it safe and stay in the akihabara area, or be based in shinjuku and travel around. A challenge. I just don’t want to get lost. Which hotel do you recommend? Going to japan is my first proper holiday going on my own. 😊

Just looked up Suzhou - it looks amazing! There could be a tour of all the "Venice of"s around the world...! Personally I think Shinjuku's a more convenient location to stay in, because it's very well-connected by train and you can get to other places easier. Just be prepared that the main Shinjuku Station is HUGE - just keep calm and follow the signs and you'll be ok. You can't get lost in Tokyo if you have Google Maps! There are so many metro stations that even if you have no idea where you are, you'll come across a station before long and then you're fine. :-) For a hotel I'd look on Expedia to find one that's a good price for your dates. You can type in "Shinjuku" or "Akihabara" and find one that's near a station.

How long did you spend at Dazaifu Tenmangu? Will 2 hours be sufficient? Thanks.

Yes I think you could see it in that time. I went to Dazaifu in the morning and Yanagawa in the afternoon, and that worked out well.

You can use counters like ikko but I believe you can also say hitotsu and that would also mean one? Correct me if I’m wrong but I’ve heard people order and say hitotsu onegaishimasu
@amycrabtree9571
@amycrabtree9571 5 лет назад
Yes! When ordering meals you say hitotsu, futatsu, etc - that's definitely right, so I guess it could work here too. Shouldn't have tried to be fancy with the counters! (*≧ω≦*)

I noticed that the train tickets you were holding were all written in Japanese characters. For folks who can't read Japanese, it may be a challenge to travel by train on our own. Do you have any recommendation because we are staying in Roppongi, Tokyo, and plan to travel to Mt. Takao and Kamakura based on your vlogs?
@cakeswithfaces
@cakeswithfaces 6 лет назад
Yes, those ones were all in Japanese! For Mount Takao and Kamakura you can use your Suica card so you don't need to worry about individual tickets. In this case, the woman at the ticket counter spoke english and she explained which ticket was which (I wouldn't have known otherwise!!). It's quite common for a touristy ticket counter like that to have an english speaker. All the signs at stations are in english as well as Japanese (sometimes electronic signs switch between languages like the ones in the video) so you'll have no problems on the trains. They're great plans for day trips - you'll get a taste of the seaside and countryside without having to go too far from Tokyo :-)

Because of you vlogs, I am so excited to see Mt. Takao in October and also that bamboo forest in Kamakura (Hokokuji?). Arigato Amy.
@cakeswithfaces
@cakeswithfaces 6 лет назад
Yes the bamboo forest in Kamakura's at Hokokuji :-) I enjoyed it a lot more than the one in Kyoto, because even though it's smaller it's less crowded, so there's more atmosphere! October's a great time to go - still really warm and you'll see lots of cute Halloween stuff!

This may sound a little ignorant but is that real gold or fake.
@cakeswithfaces
@cakeswithfaces 6 лет назад
I don't know about this one, but Kinkakuji (the golden temple in Kyoto) is definitely made of real gold! It's safely in the middle of a lake so you can't go right up to it :-)

If I know bits of Japanese to start a conversation with a Japanese person does that qualify as being able to live or visit Japan I am trying to visit for detouring for that matter I think Japan takes hell of a lot better care to there country than us.
@cakeswithfaces
@cakeswithfaces 5 лет назад
Yes Japan is very clean and well-kept, it's a really pleasant place to be. You don't need to know much Japanese to visit because all the signs you need are in English - but it always helps to be able to say please, thank you, etc. I think you'd want to know a lot more Japanese if you were going to live there though! :-)
@nathanielbobo4169

Doing what it takes to go visit I wanna see some shrines from the Oblivion Island movie there and a couple of others I feel like something evil is preventing me though according to them that's how the shrines work if you've forgotten something the kitsune will return it to you. I am really focusing on spiritual changes and increasing my networth balance to visit Japan even if it means developing Japanese and working over there and transferring.
