I am from Bengaluru....and my dad belonged to bangarpet a village area in Kolar district...I have never heard about this urban legend before but whenever we use to travel from Bengaluru to bangarpet at night during weekends...my dad often used to get nervous while driving across an area ( which i don't remember now because I was only abt 7 to 8 yrs then) whenever I asked him why he would act strange he would comfort me by saying that it's not safe because of dacoits....and I used to believe it ....but now I guess he knew what it actually was so ya maybe this exsist. Unfortunately I can't ask him now because he passed away 6 years ago.

I am a true-blood Bangalorean with my ancestors being Bangaloreans for 400 years. So, Pavagada is not that near Bangalore and is a very hot place by Bangalore standards. I was born in 1987, much later than this happened. I have heard about this from a senior friend who was from Pavagada, many suspect this to be the work of organ traffickers, and human traffickers, and some attribute it to black magic. The sad part it that people started killing wolves and killed several wolves in the surrounding areas.

Realistically speaking, it could be a human trafficking case more than just an urban legend..considering it was the 80s and how they slept with their doors open means most likely they didn't have electricity there so they could easily mistake a 'bhediya mask' as the real deal..also why else would a HUGE A*S WILD animal would pick only little kids? That too only the girls? How does it know the difference? Kala jaadu? Doesn't make any sense in my opinion

We'll I'm from Karnataka (Mangalore) and I myself haven't heard of these so called urban legends of Karnataka, like the story of the naale baa witch, or wolves of pavagada. I kinda have a feeling these stories were made up. I saw a few houses in puttur, karnataka write naale baa in their house doors few years ago when I visited my cousin's house there but when I asked them the reason behind it, they said it wasn't because of a witch, but it was actually because there was a story that lord Ganesha wrote naale baa infront of his house for some reason, I think it was when yama came there to take his soul or something so Ganesha tricked him into coming back daily and he had to go back empty handed. So this naale baa thingy is written infront of doors to bring in good luck. Most of the so called urban legends are made up for entertainment, I believe

There is a similar myth in chhattisgarh, here the wolf is called raksa. A raksa is a wolf-like creature but guided by a witch who indulges in black magic. Raksa is active only at night and usually spotted near villages, it roams after midnight on the pathways connecting those villages and tries to follow the people crossing. It is also said it breathes fire though it's hard to imagine, probably some form of chemical reaction from his saliva and the air. It is a very cunning creature and can sense fear. People usually travel in groups if needed at night to avoid any direct confrontation with this creature. It feeds on fear, is bigger than an average dog, is completely black, laughs and cries like humans. Basically tries to play mind games.

My mom just told her perspective of her story. She just confirmed it that this is true. She was 10 then.My mom lived in Tumkuru and have been to pavghada,since we still have relatives there. Since in summer it was too hot, they used to sleep outside our open the main door and sleep. After these incidents people were in fear. They used to say "thola banthu thola" meaning "bediya aya bhedia". Many theories were made. later, it was said they used children for sacrifice or "bali" for black magic.Also, places around it was said to be dacoit and naxalites areas . Still few places are not safe .My uncle was recently attacked by dacoits near Hosdurga . He lost around 25000 worth of valuables.

I was born in Udupi n spent childhood there.. I hv heard abt it from my grandfather...(though Udupi is very far from Pavagadh) But nt as werewolf.. He told that in Pavagadh bear attacks used to happen earlier.. So whenever i hear the name paavgadh i was thinking f bear attack..
