I have a RATS pack that I got from a senior medic prior to me. He took it to Afghanistan back in 14’ as well as numerous training events after. He gave it to me when he left the Army. It’s held together on multiple airborne operations, a 2 month training event in Africa and now my deployment in Afghanistan and its’s held together incredibly well. My most recent use was a few weeks back, treated multiple trauma patients out of it which is one example of many. It provides a capability that most bags do not in the form of space and organization that has quite literally been a life saver. For the other Army Medics reading this here’s a tip. If you are doing a 3-5 day event, you can strap two sustainment pouch’s to it, one on each side. It provided you with everything that you need and nothing that you don’t. Would highly recommend to anybody looking for an upgrade from the standard issue crap.

this new studio reminds me of your old videos! Also you should do a video on Stethoscopes, good companies, what to look for in a good stethoscope, and some suggestions for ones for EMS, not just the one you currently use but maybe a few different ones including that one.

I rarely comment on RU-vid videos.. but can you do a review of what stethoscopes you recommend. Because online they recommend a 200$ one. But would it even be beneficial to have one as a EMT/Paramedic?
@georg.pl_
@georg.pl_ 4 года назад
Trenton Johnson I allow myself to comment on this^^ I currently use the Littmann Classic III as a Paramedic and Offshore/Wilderness/Expedition Medic. I just love it as it gives me the perfect balance between having an expensive, heavy stethoscope with very good acoustics and having a lightweight stethoscope I can afford and stow away easily. That‘s what I‘d recommend, they are good enough for breath sounds, blood pressure, gut sounds and what else you need as a Medic. You should be okay with it as long as you aren‘t working as a cardiologist 😉😁 Just my 2 cents though, I‘d be interested in Sam‘s opinion as well!

Great video! Did you give any consideration to the ROUS? I can’t find any RU-vid reviews for the ROUS. If so, what was you preference for RATS over ROUS? Just seemed like you might be looking for a bigger bag, but wasn’t sure if the ROUS was too big for your application. As an aside, I thought the Hitchhiker only attaches neatly to the NICE frame.
@mossberg6024
@mossberg6024 4 года назад
Jimmy Murphy I just commented my experience with the RATs pack and you might find some of that info beneficial. That being said I didn’t comment about the ROUS. From personal experience I’ve seen first hand medics have the ROUS and STRUGGLE to move quickly and for long periods as well as treat patients with it in due to the fact the fill it full. When that bag is at capacity it is to much. My RATs fully loaded, with sustainment gear and extra ammunition is 50 pounds which unfortunately is to heavy for my liking but necessary and not optional. the ROUS is almost double the size so you can imagine how much people tend to throw in and weigh themselves down.

+Aram Husen Well, it's made by Mystery Ranch, so their website probably has it. Their gear is very expensive. If you're going to buy an expensive 3 day ruck, I would buy the U.S. Marines Recon Assault Pack. It's a pretty good size ruck, and he assault pack that buckles onto the Recon version of the U.S. Marine Corps ILBE Main Ruck ( which is a giant ruck, more than 30 inches tall, that has lots of MOLLE webbing all-round, has a large, multi chamber top pocket [also with lots of MOLLE] that holds a lot of stuff itself, comes with a large radio pouch and 100 ounce hydration bladder with carrier, is really versatile, carries tons of stuff ( especially with the assault pack, which is good sized and also has lots of MOLLE webbing and is hydration bladder compatible ) attached and making wise and full use of the MOLLE on both packs. I have the regular ILBE and the regular APB03 assault pack ( which is smaller than the recon versions of both rucks ). I'm pretty strong and carry lots of gear, including lots of medications, weapons, ammo/mags, chest rig, and gear and I can't even carry the ILBE with assault pack attached if I completely fill the main ruck ( which is designed to carry more than 120 pounds in the main ruck, lots more if you attach the assault pack, use all MOLLE on both the main and assault rucks, and fill it's top pocket, which expands and increases a lot more than you'd think, raise the rain flap and raise the tall, roomy, expanding and increasing "chimney collar" ( I think it's actually called a snow collar [which has a cinch cord and barrel lock]. It has an incredibly high capacity and I get tons of stuff when I fill them ). Despite the huge amount of stuff, it's very comfortable, with integral frame, nice and large padded shoulder straps, load lifters, it's got everything. Since I'm not military, I use the radio pouch for more organization in the ruck. It's my favorite "tons of everything" ruck system in case of "bug out". You can live for weeks if you pack it right with the right stuff. The Recon ILBE kit is better in many ways. It has a bigger radio pouch, extra "MOLLE tails" ( panels of lots of extra MOLLE" that attach to the ruck and lets you get lots more stuff added to your gear when attached right ) and, most importantly, a much larger and better assault pack with a lot more MOLLE all round. The ILBE Recon assault pack is bigger, way better than the regular APB03 assault pack ( a really good 72 hour ruck in it's own right ) with more room, organization, more everything. If you want a specialized medical ruck, they even make the Recon Medical assault pack. It has special pouches that go in it to organize your meds and supplies, it even has I.V. kit holders and more. It's very high, good quality stuff and I highly recommend it. I would use it as my main 72 hour ruck ( more like a week or more if you pack it full of the right stuff and make good and full use of the MOLLE webbing ) if it wasn't so rare and expensive and I didn't already own a regular ILBE set ( and more rucks ). It's made by Arctyrex, so it's high quality, and military gear is generally superior to civilian ear in every way. You can find them on Amazon, probably E-Bay, Craig's List, Etsy, Shopify, etc....... and, if you're lucky, surplus stores, catalogs, and websites. I've been using and collecting guns and gear for years and this is the best of the best, in my opinion. If you can afford more expensive stuff, the Savotta Sarma TST 80 ( a large, huge capacity military ruck from Finland, available on Verustaleka.com. It's covered with MOLLE and, if you attach the CP 15 as a top pocket [available at Verestuleka, along with a tutorial video on how to attach it] you will have a top notch, "carry everything", huge ruck that's adjustable. It's crazy expensive, but is even better than the ILBE). Another "carry everything", military ruck is the Berghaus Crusader ( a Dutch military ruck that comes in large [huge], and medium [ really large] ). The main ruck is 90 liters, and it has two ten liter, zip on side pockets that can be zipped together to make an assault pack that has lots of room for lots of stuff. It has 5 or 6 rows of MOLLE, 6 or 8 loops per row. It's also expensive but, with any of the rucks I mentioned, you can be assured of the best

Hello
@cthulhu6697
@cthulhu6697 4 года назад
I know it's a Medic ruck, but the whole time, I kept seeing the combat/tactical potential features of this pack and they are glaringly obvious ( to me, anyway ). I saw the tons of all kinds of built in pockets, pouches , etc.......everywhere. He said "IV sleeves", I saw twin weapons pouches for a tactical shotgun and something like a carbine or SMG ( I thought of a Mossberg 500 .12 gauge pump- action on the right side, and a .30 U.S M1 Carbine or some kind of SBR on the other. He showed the lid pocket, I thought " lid full of loaded mags, another 55 round, .12 gauge tac- bandoleer, and more, all I have to do is reach behind my head ( with room on top to add MOLLE for even more stuff.- ( maybe a Kriss Vektor .45 ACP SMG, folded up with lots of extra mags, silencer, and other goodies; an extra Camel Back Crux or 2 and so-on, all in a 15 liter or so day pack ( also covered with MOLLE, for more goodies, perhaps boxes of ammo and NVGs ). Zipper pocket with a pad on the back of the main compartment? How about "endless, huge well for vacuum sealed ammo, all made with a kitchen food sealer with the rolls of Mylar and labeled with masking tape and Sharpie, plus mag loading tools. It had huge pockets right on the front to hold all kinds of weapons, ammo, gear, and so on. I like to maximize room in my rucks with MOLLE pouches and compression sacks and here, they give me big pouches with big windows so I can see my gear, a big, main compartment for lots of whatever I want ( and I know what to bring and how to pack it, everybody needs all kinds of gear, after all ). I'm talking about a societal collapse, do what you gotta do scenario in this case, though it's combat, tactical, and everyday potential on a real-world battlefield, a combat patrol, tactical, and much well suited general ruck serves this role quite well and is pretty much what I want and fills the bill very nicely in all roles mentioned as well . There's even room for an extra chest rig or 2, already set up with what I want, of course, and perfect for a variety of roles so I need only switch vests, main weapons, maybe pistol belts, maybe add stuff I want, etc....... and I'm ready to, say, switch my sniper gear and weapons ( when I feel my team and I have cleared the area and paved the way as best we can, juggled gear for assault of a loot-spot, and readied ourselves. For example, we want that pharmacy, gun store, Western Auto, Wally World, and so-on, and we've scouted, we've sniped, NVG-scanned the area] so now we're all geared up with plate carriers, high capacity pistols, AKs, SOCOM 16s, SMGs, tactical shotguns, carbines, SBRs, put on the NVGs/ thermographics and whatever. We've armed up, geared up, and ammo'ed up, etc....... as desired. We've set up sniper over-watch, and got the assault team, ready to get in there and dig out those who loot what I want to loot. At this point, we keep the main rucks at the jump-off point with the snipers and spotters, put on the ( very expensive, it's Mystery Ranch after-all, so $175 ) assault pack they make to attach to it ( both would have various roles and loads, depending on what the reason for wearing them is ). Although large amounts of MOLLE, pouches, and so-on, which allows me to customize rucks and gear as I wish is very important to me, there is so much versatility, so many pockets and pouches everywhere to cover all roles very nicely, I could use this as a main ruck and be well pleased. They are even kind enough to give me gigantic drug and med bags ( which are kindly marked ), as well as a big ass trauma kit, plus more, additional MOLLE so I can put U.S.G.I Sustainment Pouches ( which hold lots of everything ), and there are pockets and pouches I haven't even mentioned ( lots of them ). I'd like to have this freakishly expensive ruck and it's stupidly high assault pack ( that's Mystery Ranch for you, imagine what it'd cost in Multicam ), but you couldn't design a ruck worth the cost of this really cool, but stupidly expensive fucker and it's just as dumbly expensive assault ( the reviewer calls it sustainment ) pack. At least writing this post apocalyptic combat novel based around the review of a ruck made some boring work-time, babysitting a crematorium better. Thanks for thinking your pretty-cool-but-no-ruck-is-that-cool med ruck is worth more than an 8-ball of Heroin, Mystery Ranch. It's been fun ;)

Yeah, one thing to really keep in mind when it comes to tactical gear is that it is VERY stratified when it comes to quality. 5.11 puts out solid products but the quality is middle of the road, good for medium use for a couple years but not necessarily something that will last you years and years in harsh environments. I had 5.11 boots for years and I just expected to replace them every year or so.
