dear Alex i know what happened to the ring, my grandfather did it to almost all of my grandmothers jewellery just before the depression to conceal there worth. apparently its an old trick that was used to keep family heirlooms safe during the war as well.
@@MacetazzOpina im not sure id always assumed they meant from the government or from shady individuals who might steal them given how hard life was at the time.
It was soooooo wonderful to see Hans again. He makes me smile every time. I think your jewelry showcase looks fabulous, well done Alex. Best wishes from a very, very hot South Africa.
Alex finding a diamond ring is almost as good as finding a diamond ring myself. What is it about this guy that you find yourself just rooting for him to fall into amazing, valuable finds? Every time I watch a new video I'm hoping for some fantastic treasure that will help pay off the mortgage on the shop.
You have the same generous joy as my little grandson. He loves videos of people opening surprise packages of toys. He doesn't ask for the toys -- he's just delighted to see what other people find.
My guess is because he does things like gofundme for Hans, gives things to friends, and also the generosity he shows like giving the found money to Hans Zenovia. Alex you are a very good man.
After the unlawful lockdowns we all need to support and root for all our local stores or they won't be there. Its been proven fake in the fact that corporate Costco and Walmart stayed open but a tiny place cannot. Its all for the great reset for royal family and the 7 billion vaxes they bought from apijet rapidconsortium. We need more than ever to protect our neighbor
@@SherMusician I so agree with you! Not knowing your age, just going to throw this out there. I remember back with nearly every single neighborhood in the towns where I lived and had relatives in back as a child all had a small family owned and operated store. They were fixtures that everyone used all the time. For us kids it was all about the candy and getting a super cold drink from the large ice water filled drink dispensers. Walking to the store with a few coins in our grubby little hands was such an everyday thing! And many times if all anyone needed was a few items like milk, bread, or a baking ingredient or other household essential they could quickly pop in and not have to go to a freakin warehouse store. I miss the days when grocery shops were a manageable size and you knew the people that worked there. And it didn't take 4 hours and walking 10 or more miles to get what you needed for the week. I really miss what has been lost to the greedy rich chain everythings we have nowadays.
Yes, I was wondering why on earth someone would have put all that lead to cover all the diamonds. Just craziness. And I too am wondering what the value of it is.
My mom has that frog ring. Hers is from James Avery and she got it decades ago. I used to sneak into her jewelry box and wear it! She also has a cat ring from JA where it looks like the cat is laying lazily and it's tail wraps around your finger.
My step uncle hunted for and sold antiques. His specialty was estate jewelry. I learned a lot from him and it’s still a passion of mine! Thanks for sharing!✌️😎
Alex - you are losing a lot of heat through your roof which makes the snow melt then freeze when it get to the edge. You need more insulation in the ceiling. Alternatively you could add a heating wire at the edge with a timer so you are not heating all of Edmonton ongoing. Initially I thought it was the back of the store where Josh put insulation but no vapour barrier before adding the decorative bags.
We used to install insulation, if there is no air gap, the heat transfers out to the roof, there should be air gaps at the roof edge, between the insulation, and the roof itself. They make styrofoam air vents to put in there, before the ceiling is insulated.
Vintage costume jewelry is very collectable! Think Monet, Coro, Trifari, Miriam Haskell, etc. As a collector, I’d advise caution when cleaning it, because it was manufactured inexpensively and can be easily damaged. (I found out the hard way!) Rhinestones should not be cleaned in an ultrasonic cleaner, as it can damage the older foiled stones.
I need to find the videos that tell about Hans' story. I love this couple and think that they add so much to the show. I'm glad that they were helped out of whatever poverty or issues they had and are now doing so well. Such happy people too.
My daughter is a gemologist and they clean rings with a solution of water and a drop of dish soap so as to not destroy any stones. Ex opals are very porous and destroy easily. Have a great day. Take care HD stay safe. Cheers! 😊🇨🇦
What a nice find Alex! I love that bee pendant and that little frog ring was cute too. Very nice display and so nice to have help getting it all put out.
Great minds think alike! I too was stunned by the aquamarine bee and the frog ring. Gosh I sure miss the days when I could get out and go thrift shopping!
Love the new jewelry display... my dtr and I specifically go to antique stores for those type of treasures. your female customers will love 💜. Gorgeous ring!
@@elipotter369 Alex commented in an earlier post today (7 hours before your comment) that the ring has already been sold! A fast sale -- must have been real diamonds!
My sister and I each had one of those frog rings when we were girls. Thank you for bringing that memory back for me! I always love seeing your treasure hunting adventures and your crew of family and friends!
I love the look of the store outside! Please check out security window film before you put up bars! I would love to visit your store, but you're a long way from Florida!
That is interesting. The thing with bars on the doors, outside ones esp. is that the glass can still be broken and they just stick their hand in and turn the lock if there's not a proper deadbolt. It's a shame that anyone has to even deal with this issue. But that's life. Good thing life is limited and there's hope beyond this mortal plane. At least for many there is.
I'm so happy to see you add a jewelry counter! I love your store, but so much of what you have falls under classic "guy stuff". I know oil cans and matchbox cars and sports cards are collectible, but I'm much more likely to buy a nice bit of bling as an impulse buy. You might want to add vintage perfume to that case as well. There was a reformulation of most perfumes just a few years ago, and a lot of them don't smell like they used to. Old bottles of nice perfumes are now quite in demand by perfume lovers who want the originals.
So true. Luckily I have a few vintage bottles of my favourite, Bal A Versailles, ranging from the 70s through to the late 80s. Once you get to the Genesis edition you really notice the change. I'm so glad to have come across Alex's channel. What lovely people and it's so interesting.
This is true. I was feeling nostalgic and bought two of my long ago favorites from a perfumer online, Wind Song and Blue Grass, and they smelled nothing like I remembered.
Thank you so much for posting that! I metal detect and love to see the rings and costume jewelry! What did the gold ring markings turn out to be! It is just gorgeous! I can’t believe it JD all that lead on it!!! Great episode! Your display is looking good. Have a great day👍☀️🍁❄️
this was a very happy and enjoyable video. You brought that beautiful ring back to life....added a full and rich jewelry display and spent the day with friends! Who is better than you?👌😎
Oh I wish I had a Hans! My house needs a new gutter on one side. Its hard to find someone who wants to do it. Luv that /frog ring! You'll do good on the jewelry Alex!!
I used to work with a man that at one time designed and repaired jewelry for Tiffany's in NYC. He cleaned all of the jewelry with Mr. Clean type cleansers too
I too worked for an old world jeweller. After rouge buffing we would use sudsy amonia and water, using a toothbrush and a bar of ivory soap to scrub. Came out even better than new!
Jewelry case looks nice Alex! I did like the frog ring you showed, cute! That was strange why they covered the diamond ring with lead but you cleaned it up nice. Good job!
Some of those other rings look like they have some nice semi precious stones in them as well. It all looks great. Made me want to be there to browse in person. Wish I could!
Hello C.I., Well you're a perfect example of "when work's a labor of love, it isn't work at all"!🤔👂 How sweet it is!🙏🏻 Keep up the good work and keep these vids coming!! Be safe and take care, "God Bless", sincerely, Randy. 👍👍🙏🏻😇👊
Someone may have already posted this: Emerald, ruby, and sapphire on the Mohs scale are softer stones. If they have cracks, jewelers fill them with something to keep them intact. An ultrasonic will clean that out and return these stones to a more fragile state. For that reason, we never cleaned rings with those stones in the ultrasonic. Of course, older stones were most likely solid.
I bought a frog ring similar to your frog ring for my daughter. On the outside, a frog. On the inside of the ring, a prince! The message: you have to kiss a lot of frogs before you meet your prince!
Don't kiss the frogs would be my motto, haha. I don't think they turn into princes in real life - mostly people go the other way - putting their best face forward at the beginning of a relationship.
Is that frog ring still available? I broke my femur two years ago that required surgery,as a result I had to remove my ring which was identical to the one frog ring you showed. Long story short, the ring disappeared and I was heartbroken. But then you showed the frog ring and described the foot going around to make the ring itself! I was so happy to see another one! So I am going that you still have it available for purchase. It was not an expensive ring ... probably ten dollars when I purchased it At Target in 1989 or so, but I Am interested in purchasing the one you showed so if you could give me a price I may buy the one you showed. I would love for you to tell me it's available!
Hans is genuine people . AWSOME always offers to help in time of need. He even offered to help when my apt.building caught fire. Even though I am thousands of miles away . You all are AWSOME people . 🙏🏻💖😎
Melissa's family owned a jewelry store, if I remember correctly. I would assume she knows all of this. But still kind of you to mention it, just in case.
In fact I had an aunt that never took off her opal ring as it was her engagement ring. After a amazingly short time doing things for cleaning with soap, laundry and dishes plus scrubbing floors etc. She killed the stone. Ended up a dead white stone without any sparkle or depth. So sad but she refused to listen to anyone.
Opals and pearls, you have to be very conservative about how you clean them, we used dawn and a soft toothbrush to clean these rings when I worked as a buffer at the jewelry chain store in the states
YES, finally jewelry!!!!!! Been asking, hinting, and then telling you to please get some jewelry. I think you will be surprised how well it does. Maybe even some of the kids will love for themselves or gifts, depending on price. YAY
I feel like this was a revenge stunt with the ring. Maybe a divorce - "I get the ring and I'm selling the diamonds!". "The heck you will!!". Just a thought.
More likely they wanted to wear the ring everyday for sentimental reasons but wanted to preserve the diamonds and not lose them. And knew the lead could be removed....
Hans is a wonderful man and he's so humble and polite too but always ready to help at the drop of a hat and it's nice to see him with his lady, some of these rings are really funky and cool and I hope that you do well out of selling them Alex, hello by the way from Bridgend, south Wales, UK 😉👍
On the gold ring the "red clay" was a jeweler's pitch. You can use acetone to remove it. Just soak the ring and it will remove it completely. Then just wash it in regular dawn dish soap and you're good to go. On your ultra sonic cleaning: never allow your jewelry to touch each other. You'll end up with minute scratches on the metal that will have to be polished out. A good at home cleaner for the ultra sonic is Simple Green that's diluted with distilled water. Use distilled water instead of tap water as it's free from minerals that may contaminate or react with different metals or stones and leave a residue. They may also be harmful to your ultrasonic over time. Nice find!
Alex, you have hit the jackpot. All that jewelry will surely bring all the customers . I only wish I could be there to meet you and shop. Your soul is filled with so much joy it’s beautiful and incredible. ❤️ you.❤️❤️🍀🍀👍👍🌞🌞🥂🥂🌹🌹🕊🕊🙏🙏😇😇🎈🎈🎁🎁😘😘
The jewelry displays look great! I have to admit though after the last burglary I get nervous for Alex when he shows us items in the store. I hate having that feeling but I do get it. I’ll pray for the safety of the store.
For future reference you can also do it by melting some lead in a spoon, dipping the contained item in said lead, letting it melting temp along and then very fast, flicking it across a disposable surface. I've come across such things in the past and it's by far the cleanest method...well, the outcome not the mess.
You’ve come across lead covered jewelry? That’s so weird that this was a thing common enough for multiple people to come across. Any idea why people did that?
