it’s currently on repeat for me as it’s on netflix now!! first time seeing it this week and love it. i wonder why i never heard of this movie before. Grew up in the 90’s
absolutely. Its the best romantic movie I have ever seen. Easily takes the top spot beating the likes of When Harry Met Sally, And There's Something About Mary. That said I'm not in romantic movies. I am not going into the older classic movies. Julia Roberts looks so pretty and just steals the scene with her looks and charm. I have rarely seen a leading actress look so charming and beautiful. But the best acting performance and probably the character we feel most about is that girl Kate. And the third actress is just funny and humorous. And she does it by acting normal. Great performance in a understated role. Deserved a nomination. But its well acted and its just perfect. Its how a romantic movie should. About love, friendship, relations, jealousy, heartbreak and hope. And what it really does it integrates its theme of the pizza joint into very sweet and beautiful movie. Does not overdo anything and yet it so great to watch. Good to see a reunion. This is movie which has not grown old. It still feels fresh and deserves multiple viewings.
To be honest, Lily Taylor and Vince D'Onofrio are far better actors than Julia Roberts. But stardom is a funny thing, no explanation for who becomes world-famous.
@@wotan10950 Whom ever sells their soul to 👹 makes it big. Sadly, it isn't about talent. Lily obviously made the right choice. 🙏❤️ YT channel: A Call For An Uprising explains it best.
I loved this movie back in 1988 and still love it now. One of my top 3 movies of all time. If not number one. I relate so much to it. It would be awesome if they did a sequel.
Why didn't they talk about the darts and pool scene? That is handsdown the best scene in the movie, I mean you can literally feel the chemistry between charlie and daisy❤️❤️❤️
I love this oldie..Annabeth was in the first season of" Pretty little liars" as the town therapist..At first I couldn't place her and then "Bam!" I went Mystic Pizza..Lol! She grew into a beautiful and talented actress..
I hadn't made that connection! You're totally right. I haven't watched that show in years but her face is very clear in my head now that you mention it.
I worked at mystic pizza in mystic CT for 5 years best time of my life. It's a magic place a lot of friends and a lot of memories. Thanks to chris and john zelepos the owners.
Lili Taylor🤗! Julia can't be the only star. Ha. Vincent was always hot to me. Annabeth was great in Shag too. I think Dogfight was my favorite Lili movie💖.
Thought so too when I watched this. She didn't give anyone else a chance to respond. It actually showed the opposite. She's actually known for being cranky, bitchy and moody. And they all know it. Look at the expression on their faces, as she pipes up....
This movie is a great well acted movie. The town of Mystic was an awesome location for it. Great town to visit. Always one of my favorite in a genre in not always crazy about. This one stands out with a universal message of love.
I think the guy, Julia Roberts love interest, should have been a chance to speak!! HOW TERRIBLY RUDE, THAT THE INTERVIEWER IGNORE AND NOT ASK HIM ANY QUESTIONS!! He was treated like an outcast!! I like Julia Roberts. However, she does seem to go overboard on her laughter, with this interview. IT does seem like it's all about HER!! My favorite was the quite one and the married guy. I can't remember her or his names. Not good with names.
The look on Annabeth's face, when Julia said that, spoke volumes. I have never seen the movie, but remember talk about it. I didn't know my favourite actor ( Vincent D'onofrio) , was in the movie.
I totally agree. Julia didn't give anyone a chance to respond. And she has a reputation for being bitchy and moody too. That's why her quick response was laughable...
Teenage guys didn’t want to see it when it first came out, but we did with our girlfriends and now, years later, we wish we could go back to 1988 and watch it a hundred times…🙏😎
I was at Mystic Pizza 2 years ago. It's a very crowded restaurant, and a tourist trap. The restaurant walls are filled with pictures of the actors and scenes from the movie. I think the movie is on the restaurant TV's also. It was an enjoyable day in Mystic and the pizza was very good.
cityofchamps66 Yes, it was filmed in Mystic. I work at the original restaurant and get many questions about the movie, location of filming, etc. However, there is a second location a few towns over.
When I visited Mystic in the early 90's I was told it was filmed in Stonington and Wikipedia also mentions Groton, sounds like it was filmed in several places
Happy birthday to Annabeth Gish. 3 13. I did not watch Mystic Pizza back in the day. I started watching it, when the film was involved in the divorce of a certain newscaster I liked. Once I saw it, I wish I had. Your character reminds me of good girls who make the wrong decision. The sister relationship was familiar as well thank you for your care with this role
Even though I think Julia Roberts at time seems full of herself, at least she wasn't too big of a star to not be there for the reunion. If she hadn't, then for sure she would be seen as to good.
Two things. First, where is Conchatta Ferrell? Why isn't she there? I always thought she was the heart and soul of the film. Second, Adam Storke. Yum!! Why he isn't a star is beyond me.
My father, of all people, a WW2 vet and general he-man, recommended this movie. I thought it was unique and wonderful, and I watch the DVD every year or so.
@@whiteshell1 was empty with just a few pictures of the movie...didn't expect the pizza to be great but it was so so. little souvenir stand and that was it.
This was definitely one of those films that is worth watching with my girlfriends, especially if we're having a girls night-in (and we're in our 20's). Haha! I think that this is one of those epic chick-flick movies that has ever been made. Love it! And btw ABC News, can you please do a reunion interview with the cast of Dying Young (w/c includes Roberts and D'Onofrio again) and Sixteen Candles? I absolutely would LOVE to see that happen. :)
Dying Young isn't a "classic" and didn't have a big audience. Though a good film, not exactly the cheery, uplifting story-style GMA likes to typically reunite the cast of.
I know everyone says this, but I truly knew when I saw this that Julia was gonna be huge. I loved this movie when I was growing up and I literally wanted to BE her. Such a great flick.
Not one mention of the Portuguese theme of this movie. And this Jewish guy who is interviewing calls them racist when the Portuguese in the film are all white and Christian. This Jewish guy would not be c side red white by the kkk. Or white Americans in general.
LOl as I was commenting before, I loved this movie so so so much because I am Portuguese and it was the first time I saw any reference of Portuguese people on a Holywood movie. I loved it so so so much! Apart from all the evident stereotypes and lack of knowledge regarding Portuguese culture LOL in the movie, I passed beyond all of that and just enjoyed this so fun and innocent fairy tale, cool movie :) I will see it again tonight after so many years :):):):) Loved it so so much!
Might as well repost it, since you posted the same thing twice. Anyhoo, they were considered white-adjacent (i.e., not Anglo, so not really white), which is racist. There was a time in America when Italians and Portuguese were thought of as 'ethnic.' With the rise of Latinos (i.e., Latin American descent), the boundaries of whiteness were expanded to include virtually anyone who isn't black or brown. Now more and more 'white-looking' Latinos are claiming a white identity per the U.S. census.
I like them all, but Adam Storke barely talked at all. I did not care for Julia Roberts in the reunion. She's an attention hog and seems pretty full of herself. I really enjoyed this movie and all the actors did a great job!
My (big sister) from big brother big sister/ mentor... Ruthie Coors, took my to her house and we made pizza and watched this movie aww how I loved her she was so nice! Sadly I lost all contact with her I wish I can find her I tried but I still can't it's been about 12 years, but oh how she was a big influence on me and my life! I wish there was a way to tell her.
I always wondered why Adam Storke hasn’t had many acting gigs in his career. He’s handsome w/ sex appeal, isn’t type cast w/ the ability to portray everything from a lover to a mob boss, has aged well, maintained privacy in his personal life. I never looked into why he hasn’t pursued more work, maybe he has the financial freedom & lack of desire to act anymore? 🤷🏻♀️ Idk. I met him @ a party decades ago, as we are both native New Yorkers, & he was a complete Gentleman.
I was a year old when this movie premiere and after 34 years in 2022 is the first time i watched it and i really love it. The cast were so young but i was very familiar with the actors since I've seen their other movies without knowing such as julia, vincent and lili. Not gonna lie young bill reminded me about my first boyfriend I've had in high school
Yeh never a sequel to this moive wonder what become of the characters, the only one i mean hmm would jo jo still be married to Bill or she get cold feet again and divorce him or they have kids and stay married. Charlie and Daisy hmm they might not have gotten back together she was clear at the end that she good for him that his money meant nothing to her cause he just used her to get back at his dad. Though she was swept up in the romance in beginning riding a red porsche around town. Or maybe he head back to law school study hard on his own and go back to Daisy and maybe they buy out Mystic Pizza and he be in charge of the legal stuff and she be making pizzas along side Jo. Kat will she get to Yale and get her astronomy degree then go work for a big astronomy company maybe marry a single Yalie professor of astronomy, or the Tim fling with Kat ends up him in divorce from the wife eventually, Phoebe be a grown girl by now and fond memories of Kat, Tim eventually he comes looking again to see Kat again who is older now he realizes he kind of liked her smarts. He was never happy in that marriage though there were hints before the affair with Kat that things were not good with the wife she left for England.
It's about star quality, which never lasts. Especially for female actresses. However the other actors have real talent, which is why they still act in television or the odd movie part, whilst Julia's career has dried up. Nothing she acts in is particularly good nowadays. She doesn't have depth and she doesn't have the acting ability of the others.
@@jm6566 that and Annabeth truly wanted a family, and she got it with the sweetest guy, and they are still married (almost 20 years together) with two kids. Annabeth's first priority is her family. She will occasionally take on an acting role but she's careful and picky about it. I don't think her goal was ever to be a big movie star, but to just enjoy playing in a few movies & TV shows while her priorities are her hubby and kids. She's very humble and down-to-earth, and I love that about her. She's gorgeous, too. Love her!
Julia of course is one of the biggest stars on the planet and it really is nice to see that all of the cast members love and adore her especially the other two girls Lili Taylor and Anabeth Gish. You can see the camaraderie and respect. They all wanted and got, to varying degrees, a career in movies and entertainment and are still going strong. Lili Taylor was great in American Crime and Julia was amazing in Osage County.
@@jm6566 Exactly! I highly doubt they all “love and adore” her as much as she thinks they do🙄Julia cut Adam off and they all looked at each other like What??! when she said she was the “happiest/happy all the time”😆I think Lili Taylor is actually a better actress😉
man Annabeth, Julia, Lily, talk about ageing gracefully, i watched this movie a few nights ago what a movie it was, it was a real pure 80's movie they just don't make films like that anymore, Lily was my fav in the movie her character was great
I did not see this film when it came out in theaters. I had probably been threw the town so many times like mystic aquiruim the seapport on class trips. The mystic village shops. I saw A few years later in college on vhs tape. I was going to school in new London down the road from Mystic, ct like just a stone skip away it was like romantic hit for college kids then we eventually went to Mystic Pizza after it became famous, yeh pizza good but i find it kind of spicy for me heartburn but heck enjoyed it just for the ambience of the place and fame. Then yeh they built the sister resturant in Stonington, CT which is on the rotary the way to Foxwoods pass it quite a bit hubby and I used to go in and eat there. I think they filmed some of the scenes in that one needed larger space or it might have been the peg leg pub in the moive??? It Or they might have been the shooting pool scene in there i been in there it sort of reminds og that scene but not sure. Not sure on that last one. But it got stone on the inside
My fantasy spring break road trip was to drive to Mystic for a great slice! Now, 50, I hope to do it one of these summers with my family I finally got the 911 Cabrio I lusted after seeing this movie so the road calls...
It must be exhausting to be around Roberts. She's just sooo full of herself. The photos from this reunion were so telling - Roberts thinks it's all about her. I find her so repellant.
