I really appreciate his interviewing style! He asks pertinent questions and then does not step on the answers he just lets the space allow the answer to come to fruition.

Loved, loved, loved it. I've never heard of Nadia but immediately was able to relate to her message (having grown up in a Roman Catholic Chruch) thus instantly liking her (maybe also because my younger daughter has the same name ;-). It was so easy to listen to this conversation. I appreciated her opening and inclusion and not seeing things as all black or white. There was such an ease about her and I can't wait to check out her books. Another reason being that I relate to her coming from Saxony in Germany and Luther is still celebrated in my state with a holiday called Reformation Day on October 31.

I don’t believe we are responsible for how men think from looking at our bodies no matter how we’re dressed. Yet women had always been sexualize.. I learned that God did not give me my body to show it off. I do not have to show my breast. I do not have to show my behind. I do not have to wear tight clothes to show every curb. Females need to ask themselves “Who am getting dress today for.” If the answer is God then you’re gonna know how to dress Especially in church or at work. Women have been misled on what is appropriate. I believe women have been manipulated to dress sexy to compare their self to other women and seek the attention of men because it makes them feel better because they do not love themself and value themselves. Men have been condition to follow every sexual sensation from what comes in front of their eyes. They could be taught and train to do the opposite, yet that won’t sell porn and corrupt society. Taking your daughters shopping seems to be about conditioning them to show off as much skin as possible. Mothers who are healed will teach the daughter difference, just like fathers who heal with guiding a son. There’s a time in a place for us women to dress different ways and different time but it is never appropriate in my perception for women to expose their bodies anywhere in public. That’s my opinion.
@abramspritzler4618

So how should you dress? Its sexual harassment when women dress provocatively in public. Its coercion and manipulation. Men leading women on and womanizing is a parallel.

Thank you for this podcast Rich, I hadn't heard of Nadia before and she has such important things to say. A focus for me recently has been to get away from having a dualistic, angry view of the world and try to view people on "the other side" compassionately and complexly. I also listened to her on Pete Holme's podcast, and not knowing much about Christianity myself it was really interesting hearing about it from someone with her background and political views. Great interview as always! ✌🏼

classyt20f7 I lived in hell for 45 years by lying about who I am thank you very much. Which abominations are you speaking of? Is it the seven things in Proverbs 6:16- "haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are swift in running to mischief, a false witness who utters lies, and one who spreads strife among brothers." Wait...that says pride is an abomination! No way! Maybe it’s cheating as listed in Proverbs 11:1? What about going back on your word as mentioned in Jeremiah 7? Bottom line is that there are multiple “sins” listed in scripture which are considered abominations, yet you focus on sexual ones, especially homosexuality. When a person ignores the rest and focuses on homosexuality their prejudice and homophobia shows. I will start respect your opinion when you pursue the rest of those on this list with the same hatred and passion as you do homosexuality. Until then, you lack credibility in my book.
@shanemontgomery1358

classyt20f7 also, your view of sexuality, men and women’s roles, and the shame and pure degradation of humanity supported by a fundamentalist view of scripture has resulted in numerous examples of oppression, abuse and damaged many people. Your failure to see the damage done to our world by this view is sad and harmful.

Some women who are sick of placing sexual "freedom" at the center of their identity and social activity turn to abstinence as part of discovering an order for their priorities in life that is more meaningful and enjoyable to them.

1 Timothy 2:12 English Standard Version 12 (A)I do not permit a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man; rather, she is to remain quiet. I know it sucks why can't we just do whatever we want to and still call ourselves good godly people? She can't be a preacher or priest sure she can call herself one but it doesn't mean anything to God. She is an absolute abomination to the kingdom of God.

This is the problem inherent in a dualistic system and that from which God was trying to protect Adam and Eve, which I discovered 40 years ago as I was searching for answers and struggling to understand and arrive at some wisdom. I was 21: Neither what we call good is innately good, nor is what we call bad, inherently bad; it is the way a thing is employed that defines it either way, and reveals its nature. All of us are negotiating our way thru life by braille. Having never passed this way, we are all flying by the seat of our pants and doing the beat we can. Seeing this can allow us access to our seat of compassion

For 15 years I worked at the publishing house that put out Christian Charm Course. In the warehouse we made fun of it, and the companion boy book Man in Demand. Are we against pornography? Slippery slope. Girls on OF etc are very unhealthy and their outcomes are very bad. Much much worse than those coming from purity ring ceremonies. Anything can be done wrong and be a problem, but that doesnt mean the goal and underlying idea is wrong. Just feels like this conversation conveniently ignores the strong arguments against her analysis- plenty of it I think I agree with but nonetheless seems deaf.

I understand that Lance Armstrong can be forgiven, or at least understood. But he's not just a guy who lied and then covered it up. He systematically destroyed a lot of people's lives. So her take on him seems facile and very superficial. She'll forgive old Lance because it's pretty hip to do so, but Sean Spicer, never! And not that I love Spicer, he's a tool, but it's just a silly distinction. Am I implying that she shouldn't be allowed to forgive Armstrong? No, I'm not. But her saying that he just took drugs and lied about it is a ridiculous over-simplification. And, I got nothing against swearing, but her constant use of it strikes me as performance. So hip! So cool! Christianity at the tattoo parlor!

Thank you Rich for sharing a podcast with Nadia, a true Christian. And thank you Nadia for finding your way into the Lutheran church. As a Canadian Lutheran, I wish all of our pastors were as brave Christians as you. To those of you starting to view this video: listen carefully to everything Nadia & Rich say. The church should be a community of people who accept that they are at the same time both sinner & saint. Unfortunately Nadia has prompted a lot of nasty comments - from supposed Christians who haven't a clue what Christianity is & should be.

I never liked having the burden of worrying about a man's lack of self-control and I think that that's a doctrine of man and not of God. I still believe in the purity ring better look at it differently. To me it teaches a young woman to honor herself as a child of God and to appreciate the fact that he wants the best for all of us. To me it symbolizes the gift of family and fertility. It's a symbol of commitment. It's appreciating what God has done for us but I don't see it as a way to submit to a husband or a man but as a way of honor of honoring the body and the soul and preserving it and treating it like the temple it is and it's the temple of God in which he dwells in our hearts. It's not just about body parts or sex. And while we're on that subject sex is sacred. It's not something waifling around or give away but we shouldn't be ashamed of how we are created in who we are. I bought into that purity culture when my girls were young Only later to realize how it actually devalued them as women when presented with a mindset that everything is all about the man. It's about balance. I believe that men is the authority over the home and if he does this rightly it truly is more about a balance. Without the support of a woman as she is taken from a rib a man can't stand. But he's supposed to sacrifice himself like Jesus did for the church and that's a pretty tall order And so the balance is that we love and protect each other but we don't put the lion's share of this on the woman and then call the man a leader. You can't be someone else's holy Spirit and teaching a young woman that she has to hide that you can appreciate how she was created and who she is to protect reactive mail is ludicrous to me. When that movement came about I wish that instead of following along that I had really prayed about it and thought that through because If I had realized That a good intention was used in a way that was hurtful I would have done this differently. By the way both male and female wearing a purity ring can say you know I'm saving myself for that sacred bond because God is sacred and holy and so we save each other for each other because it is the highest and most precious thing that we can give and it's the foundation for a family. I grew up in a massagingistic abusive home and they were by far not religious. And so thinking for myself was highly discouraged. I realized that now and I'm less likely to take something on face value. Cuz isn't that what we do We take something on face value It used to be that you could make a legal agreement based on a handshake but that's not so. I wouldn't have told my girls to kiss dating goodbye. I would have been there for them to help them navigate learning the ends of outs of daily living and relationships. I don't judge people who think differently than me. It's not my purpose and not what I'm about. I do want them to know God's love. In the community I was part of and I still am I'm a pretty radical gal. I wouldn't encourage young ladies to dress provocatively but at the same time they shouldn't be ashamed. They have boobs We don't have to wear barrels to hide them. But we cover our treasures. It's because we respect who we are not because we're ashamed and that would have been the difference I would make. Thanks for your video so I appreciate your openness and your willingness to get out there and talk about the things that we don't discuss polite society. I appreciate what the rings meld the two of vagina represents. It's a little out there for me. I would have created Wonder woman or something but that's me. At a givener that armor and I wouldn't had her boobs in a barrel. I would have given her strong attributes that represent the epitome of what God created woman to be She's not just a body part. He chose us to bring forth life and that's a cool thing and not only to bring it forth but to nurture it. It's a whole package thing.

True orthodox Christianity teaches we can't save ourselves, that is why Jesus died on the cross for us. This is not unique to Lutherans. In regards to sexual purity, it is a beautiful goal that can lead to greater intimacy. Do you have absolutes? Might God have absolutes? Sex is great and created by God!! AA is totally based on the Bible and it's founders were conservative christians!

Howdy from Eagle, CO, When Rich has people like this on, he's at his best. This is the Rich Roll that I once believed in. That turned me onto the deep connection of food. That talked about the struggle. So real. I wish Rich would have more people like Nadia on. If he did I'd listen. Because I don't connect with the privileged or anointed, aka, most of Rich's guests. If people don't know what it's like to have $0.00 balance in their checking account and no one to lean on, to live in the streets, they have no business thinking they do. A lot of Rich's guests think they know the struggle, they have no clue. The closest they ever came was when they pitched one of their wealthy or connected friends and they said, "can you wait a couple days"? Their kids go to private schools, they live in communities zoned to keep out people of color, those lower on the ladder. On their best day, they're hypocrites. They struggle when their gardener doesn't show up. Back to Nadia. The story of Jesus is super cool. Like how he washed the feet of those with leprosy. The problem is, most who call themselves born-agains, people of faith, they're so not. They voted for Trump, they carry around guns (living in fear -- exactly the opposite of what Jesus did), they want to take away our freedoms. They want us to use the rhythm method. Just today, Cruz introduced a bill to use public funds for religious schools: p2a.co/ZzvWim0 Handmaid's Tale is real, it's happening. The biggest threat to our country is the religious right. If Jesus were here today he'd be like, "No man. You guys got it all wrong. This is so not what I meant".
@spinbackwards
@spinbackwards 5 лет назад
What never gets told in Rich's podcasts is that most of his guests have operated from the front of the pack - their whole lives. Either because they were born into the right family, grew up in the right neighborhood, went to the right schools. They knew someone who knew someone. They had connections. Relatives or friends in high places. Yes, they made bank. Not because they earned it. No. Mainly, because they cashed in on a favor. They wrote a book, started a podcast, some app or service that the world really doesn't need. Of course this all happened from gated communities or as I wrote, communities zoned to keep the very same people they claim to care so much about - out. Once they made bank and are living on Easier Street, they get on Rich's podcast. They "want to give back". The catch here is they're charging for giving back. They almost always have something to sell or promote - a book, video, or magic potion. They usually have a big network Rich is looking to tap into. Rich scores, they sell stuff. It's the win-win charade Anand Giridharadas writes so well about. In the podcast, that's usually nothing more than a celebration of Rich and his Guest, the inference is always the same -- that Joe or JoAnn Q. Public can have their life too, all they need to do is try. That and of course buy whatever they're selling. What a bunch of hooey. There's an old saying in the circle of the wealthy - "not our kind, dear". Translated, if you're in the circle, it's really hard to get thrown out. If you're out of the circle, it's really hard to get in. Just once, I'd like to see Rich have a guest on who's made bank and is now giving away their book, video, service, or secret sauce. With a pitch of, "My thing is free. And here's my phone number. Call me anytime. I'll do whatever I can to help you, for free".

This video was sent to me by someone I love and respect as such I listened to this interview with an open mind. Now as I read through the many comments left here it seems that her message has been taken in the most positive light. While I would like to feel this as well I just cannot. While I can indeed relate to much of what she says having myself been raised in a home overfilled with ultra conservative religion, she has twisted oppression and sanctification together in such a way that the listener feels it one of the same. Obedience to god is almost always against our own desires, thinking and logic. The very core of humans are filled with sinful desires. What we have here is just another spin on new age religion with a Christian theme. We love this because the world has exposed us to so many examples of human wrong doing that we can clearly relate to what she is saying and her attitude. However her words are not founded upon the words of god but rather in her own interpretation of scripture as she likes. Unfortunately the commandments of god are often contrary to what we desire and how we think and this begins the conflict so there is a tendency to twist and rewrite things more palatable. As she is doing this it’s no wonder so many of us praise her words.

I was raised in the baptist church, as the granddaughter of a preacher. My mother was raised in the church of God her father was a Deacon. I was told that I had to dress as an example to the other young women in the congregation. We were THAT FAMILY. I was the quintessential wild child who showed up on Sunday. As a mother to a little girl now I respect and and adore Rev Nadia. She has given me back my faith when it was completely broken by the church I was raised in. She speaks from a place of truth and in a way that today’s people need to hear the word

These comments really never cease to amaze me. Nadia is a human being and I respect and admire her transparency. The church needs to stop playing picture perfect. All of us are broken in every sense of the word. None of us are shit without God, and that reality takes true humbleness. For those of you judging her Christianity or anybody's, just remember, you ain't shit without God, I ain't shit, and neither is she, none of us are. Dont dare stick your nose up at anyone. We are all gross, hateful and vain sick souls without the LORD. Judge NO one.

I have a lot of sympathy for Nadia and Rich and enjoyed listening to this very competent interview. As conservative Lutheran AND a plant-eater, I want to point out something else. Progressivism is not always as wonderful and as wholesome as it sounds. While we want to embrace with love all the people we meet, not all ideas are equally great. One thing I read about recently brought this out: people who are already privileged may “shamelessly” accept or promote unorthodox behaviour patterns which they themselves may or may not subscribe to in actual practice but when embraced by less privileged people can be ruinous for them. For example, many privileged progressives manage to keep their families together, while many other people exposed to the ideas will create shipwreck with those progressive ideas. It’s like the executives of silicone valley not letting their kids go on social media but making sure they are at soccer practice instead and kept busy otherwise. Also, I think in some ways, there is this choice between God and mammon, though we all need money. There is also a choice of who is your God: God or sex. -Though almost all of us need sex and marriage is ordained also for such activity. In all areas it’s to be remembered that we can only have one Master.

I can't wrap my head around this. I used to drink, cuss, fornicate and the list goes on and on. But when i heard the gospel, i became a new creation. Born again by the word of God. I am now a child of God through putting my trust in the gospel of salvation in Jesus Christ, which is the gospel of grace that Paul preaches in 1 Corinthians 15:1-4. My spirit was born again but my flesh is still flesh. But I am not a slave to this body of sin. Romans 6:6. I sure wouldn't want to lead a bunch of people away from the truth with my own philosophical reasoning. If it is God you are seeking, don't trust this woman. We should desire Truth, even if it isnt what we want to hear. After all, the eternity of people is on the line.
@wm5000

Exactly. The pure in heart will see God. People love Nadia because she tells them what they'd love to hear (and be true). It's only in giving up pornography, fornication, drunkenness, drug use and the rest that I have peace and experience the leading of God. But it's tough! And people don't won't tough. They want to be told God loves them in their sins (which is true) but that also God loves you as who you are and doesn't want you to change (which is false). Any Christian that has truly walked with the God of the universe (not the god of this world) knows that true, lasting faith, requires repentance, and the handing over of your sins to God. And not many people want that. Much easier to listen to Nadia who will tell you you're fine as you are, and purity is to be fought against, not realising the impure will not see God.

So, why don’t the boys wear purity rings? Aren’t they supposed to remain “pure” until marriage, too? Shouldn’t that be something that is shown to everyone that they are not available for sex? Yes, I know the answer but I’m amazed that nobody asks the initial question. Also, just because someone doesn’t fit into your stereotype of how a pastor should look, speak, or their teachings doesn’t make them wrong; it just makes them different. Bringing people back to God who had a crisis of faith is the goal, right? The community of God-loving, faithful people doesn’t have to look, sound, or believe the same way. We are required to love one another the best way we can and it sounds like a lot of you have forgotten this point.

Why do you mock God by cussing? Your bitterness is apparent. You do not have the spirit of God as your message is oppositite to the spirit of God, it is satanic in nature. You have created a god of your own imagination so that you can justify your own lifestyle, thus creating a religion ”free” from purity. Youre causing young people to live in sin by leading them astray… Jesus is very clear about how deceivers will be judged… and in 1 corIntians 11:31-32 Paul says ”But if we judged ourselves truly, we would not be judged. But when we are judged by the Lord, we are disciplined so that we may not be condemned along with the world.” So by not condemning your own sin and repenting before God, You will come under Gods judgement. Pls. repent so that Gods mercy can reach you and others.

Very interesting interview and great to see you apply your excellent interviewing skills to a topic as potentially combustible as religion. I've been looking into animism at the moment and there is tantalisingly scant information on it. If you could find someone that practices it within a Western context that would be great. I'm not sure if it is a religion or a world view / understanding that you are a part of a whole , but I think it would appeal to your vegan following. From wiki: The actions of non-human animals are viewed as "intentional, planned and purposive",[66] and they are understood to be persons because they are both alive and communicate with others.[67]

The purity movement of the 1990s and 2000s was spurred in part by Joshua Harris’ 1997 book I Kissed Dating Goodbye, which sold more than 1.2 million copies. The book, aimed at teenagers and young adults, argued against physical intimacy outside of marriage and said romantic relationships should exist only as a means of preparing for marriage. Josh Harris has stopped selling the book and is now an Atheist.
