The Nagarhole ecosystem supports the highest density of herbivores anywhere in Asia with around 108 animals per sq km. In addition to large herbivores such as the Chital, Sambar, Gaur, Asian Elephant and more, Nagarhole also boasts a large number of predators including the Tiger, Leopard and Wild dog. You will be able to see them during your Kabini safari if you are lucky.
A highlight of the Nagarhole park is the largest congregation of Asian Elephants in the world, which occur during the summer months. The visitor can also look forward to bird watching, what with over 300 species of birds recorded in the region

The best time of the year to visit Kabini or Nagarhole for animal sighting would be Jan-May. However, visiting the forests anytime earlier comes with its own advantages and disadvantages. Advantages being, a lot of animals/birds like the mongoose can be predominantly seen in the monsoon months close to the tracks. Tiger/leopard cubs, elephant & wild buffalo Calf, Deer calves can be seen during mostly during the monsoon.
In the dry months, animals mostly come out in search of water and spotting them then is easier.
