after reading some stories, it looks like even HEMA free nail polish can give you contact dermatitis if uncured gel touches your skin. but even though I did take every precaution this time around, my skin got a reaction.
so I'd avoid Beetles altogether tbh.
some reddit threads talking about the topic: / i_developed_an_allergy...
the photo on this post here is exactly what my "dots" looked like on my fingers:

I had this a couple months ago, I haven’t worn gel polishes since then. I’m gonna give it a couple more months before I even try using gel polish. My allergic reaction was so sudden and bad, and I couldn’t feel the tip of my fingers and it was filled with fluid. I had to go to the doc and they prescribed me a couple of meds, and once it subsided I decided it’s best to give my nails a break.

I had a reaction to Beetles and after that all the gels became an issue except CND. I now only use CND shellac products and I’ve had no issues. It really sucks because I had a lot of beautiful OPI gel colors and I can no longer use any of them. Mi tried using CND base with OPI color and CND top coat and it didn’t work…just the OPI color made my fingers itch and burn 😡 I wish I’d never used Beetles!!!

I use (will be throwing away) beetles to make press ons. Developed THE EXACT reaction the last couple weeks and I wear gloves religiously. I have to find a solution or a brand that is allergy free because I love making nails more than anything.

Girl!!! I got a severe reaction from beetles nails polish... Like a dummy I had some on my skin and let me tell you my hand ARE FU*****. It's ichy af, although a Aloe Vera help a bit and ice. I will never buy cheap shit from amazon again. I might try Light Elegance later when I'm over this whole traumatic experience.

I've had reactions from products at the salon. It's not necessarily cheap products or Amazon brands, beetles gel has a whole site and I use them for all my dip powders and loooooveeee it but can't do gel with ANY brand 😭

This caught my eye because I recently had a reaction from the dip! I was wondering if it was a coincidence but now that I think about it, more skin came into contact with the dip than when I get gel. Thank you for sharing and teaching me it wasn’t in my head!

Oh no. Sorry to hear you had a reaction. It may just be the nail products. I wish I had known when I first started doing my own nails to be very careful not to get it on the skin.

Yea this is what I been going through for the last few months. My finger tips are pilling to the point where they bleed. I had to see what was causing the reaction and I know now that it’s the gel products

I think I developed a gel allergy too! My nails have just been through the ringer over the past few years, bruising (and falling off), getting a fungus from a salon, to realizing I might have a gel allergy too. Trying to figure out how to strengthen my natural nails to grow longer while occasionally enjoying some press ons. Also working on getting my nailbeds back to normal again. Thankfully going through all that has helped me learn a lot about nails along the way 😅

Oh my gosh, I’m so sorry! 😞 You always hear stories but never think it’ll happen to you. But you’re right, you do learn a lot along the way. I do also love press ons. They’re fun and quick. ❤️ thanks for sharing your experience

Omg, so sorry you're having a reaction. i had very similar dots on my fingers in the past, when i was using cheaper brands of gel polish. But i was also using rubber dish gloves when doing dishes by hands every day. I just wanted to rip my skin it was sooo itchy. I then stopped using gloves when doing dishes and the itchyness also stopped. But I also stopped using led cured gel polish. They would peel off after 1 or 2 days anyway 😢😐

It’s not always HEMA that’s the problem. It can be an acrylate, check the bottle ingredients for ethylhexyl acrylate, it’s notorious for itching. We’ve been seeing reactions on HEMA-free products.

And from that time I quite my manicure . because its hard for me to get those product , But I got interest about colored builder gel polish again and I planning to start from the Beetles again and now I don’t know

Sorry to hear that happened to you too. I would avoid beetles if that brand caused you issues the first time. I do rly like the brand in.hype structure gel (builder gel). It hasn’t given me any issues but it is still a gel product so you have to make sure you don’t get it on the skin.

Tash is right. Stay away from all Beetles gels. They are all high in HEMA. Become a label reader and find out if it is HEMA free before you buy. Sadly some companies that used to be HEMA free started using HEMA again a couple years ago. Also be careful when a label lists Acrylates Copolymer especially as the first ingredient. That is the category HEMA and many other ingredients are in. Safe ingredients are copolymer acrylates as is HEMA. It is a cheap stunt used by China to not have to spell out HEMA and try to hide it! Good luck!

I'm so nervous about this with doing the gelx method! I've been wanting to try the new brand CNVS nails, they are hema-free and have a cool system. Curious what you would think of it!
@TashVitorsky
@TashVitorsky 3 месяца назад
ive never heard of CNVS but just looked at it briefly and the system does look very aesthetically pretty. gelx didn't give me any issues. if it's Hema free + you take the proper precautions, I would recommend the gelx method.

I went through the same thing when I developed an allergy to gel polish!! 😭 once I found out what it was, I stopped doing my own nails for a while. Months later, I was going on vacation so I decided to get my nails professionally done at the salon (assuming their products are better quality than Amazon). I got GelX and still got the same itch and bumps!!!! It was not as inflamed/swollen as my first couple gel allergy flares but the itch was still unbearable. I ended up dipping my fingers in ice water and that helped calm the itch - I would do it on and off throughout the day, especially if I was itchy. Eventually it stopped itching completely. I’m pretty sure I still have the allergy but I cut back on doing my nails unless I have somewhere to go and do this icing method to make the itch go away (pretty bad, I know). 😢
@TashVitorsky
@TashVitorsky 2 месяца назад
Oh no. So sorry, girl. It could get worse with time I heard (if still doing it). That’s what I’m afraid of. Some ppl switch to dip. But I also hear about dip flu. We just want pretty nails 😩

I too developed a dreaded nail allergy. Although I was able to wear acrylic sets while a lot of the damage the gel allergy caused and the damage you have to manually do in order for gel products to adhere properly, so I don’t beleive my allergy is the most common ingredient: the acrylates in these products. But something in Gel destroyed and deteriorated my nails, as well as the skin around and under my nails too. It’s finally all gone but I’m just so over it. I’m back to using traditional polish only. I’m not buffing the face of my nail ever again, it’s the most important component for your nails natural strength. Even if it doesn’t look like much, the act of buffing that top layer away is damage. It threatens the integrity of the nail by removing the outer most protective layer. So it’s just nail polish and nail polish remover from here on out for me. And no more clipping “cuticles” either, which is not actually cuticle but the proximal nail fold which is living skin we shouldn’t be cutting into. If you want to learn how to take optimal care of your nails for the best nail health watch The Salon Life’s RU-vid videos about weekly gentle manicures. She’s like a nail health guru, I swear. She’s got all kinds of videos about the best practice recommendations for healthy nails and how to nurse your nails back to health after suffering all kinds of damage, like gel allergies & nail biting. Take a look, I promise you won’t regret it.

CND Shellac is Hema free and it’s the only gel product I can now use…luckily they have nice colors including some really cool blue colors (Denim Patch is a good one) a bright red / orange (Lobster Roll) classic red (Scarlet) and some really nice nudes. Had to throw all my OPI gels away after Beetles caused me to develop an allergy 😒

I’m sorry that’s happened to you. Not fun. I’ve come to realize that most gels will make my fingers itch if I get it on my skin. I haven’t had much issue with the rubber base from the brand “in.hype” on amazon. But the key is not to get any kind of gel products on the skin. I think me doing my own nails for years and not rly paying attention to that is what caused this + using cheap gel. But if you get allergy from most then I’d prbly stay away so as not to make it worse :/

I hate this for you. I also got gel allergies due to my own ignorance and lack of experience a while back. But I can say with 100% confidence that my fingers react very poorly to Modelones. Which bums me out because they seem to be a reputable company and I really like their coverage and consistency, and people are constantly raving about them. I would get the same reactions... tons of tiny little bubbles under the skin and unbelievably swollen and itchy fingers. It made me want to rip my fingers off. For me, a brand I like is Nicedeco which indicates that it's EMA/HPMA/TPO free. Sometimes when I use other gel products, my fingers will be itchy for a day, but then eventually subside and be fine.

Hmmm You know something similar was happening to me when I started doing my own nails (previously I would get my nails done professionally once in a blue moon or for a wedding) my skin would feel itchy and painful. So I started to apply sunscreen on my cuticles and around my nails plus I wear the protective gloves. As of right now It has helped and I haven’t had any issues. Hope you find something that works ❤️‍🩹

Thanks for sharing your experience. I think taking precautions is so important when doing nails and a lot of times we overlook it. Like you said, wearing protective gloves etc … I have UV gloves but they recommend wearing a full cover glove on the hand you’re not doing the nails on. Bc sometimes gel product does get on the skin, you wipe it off and move on. And I think over time it gets worse. 😩
