After owning the Nakamura for around 3 months, it's definitely one of my favorite edc knives. I use this knife daily at work, from cutting cardboard, rope, or whatever the hell I want haha. Very very smooth pivot, and I just love that click (weird like that.) I notice I am resharpening this blade about once a month. But I have one minor con. Sometimes the thumbstuds get caught in my pocket and draw the blade as I take it out.

+John Benoit Yes, that issue with the thumb-stud getting caught on the pocket happens with all the Nakamuras due to the length of the stud and the distance between it and the handle. I've actually learned to use it to intentionally deploy the blade on the way out of the pocket, but I can see how some would not like this. Otherwise, I'm really glad you're enjoying it as much as I do. It definitely remains in my collection as a very handy-small EDC option. Thanks for watching and for the feedback!

It's weird that they used S90V. I know it's their convention to use that steel with carbon fiber scales on the "-1" models but it is at best a side grade compared to M390.

Man I really glad this came out. I was really looking at the g10 one. But when I saw this one. I had to have it. Just waiting for my taxes to come in. I have the 940-1 already. And one of my favorites. I also have a forum rift with M4 steel and the carbin fiber on that is amazing, gold class fit and finish. I love how you can take the thumb studs off. For all of us E.P.A users. The only thing I hate is I've had to send my 940-1 back twice now to get new springs put in it. Sucks. I wish they would just sell them. Or someone would make an aftermarket stronger one.

Custom Edge Works I really like the 484-1 but I am really pleased with the G10 version. Feel is really great. Great design, looks great, feels great. :)

I just bought this knife. To anyone looking to buy it: the knife is obviously great looking, feels good in the hand, smooth action, BUT.. the thumb studs on this particular knife are literally shaped like a door knob and they get caught on the seam of your pocket while drawing the knife and returning it. Because benchmade is impossible to deal with, this is not an easy fix unless you want to come up with a solution on your own. I'd suggest getting something different in that price range solely based on the thumb studs because it's that annoying

I got rid of the mini grip because of the small handles, does the nakamura fit the hand better,? I want to get the nakamura but I'm afraid it will be too small
@CuttingEdgeWorks
@CuttingEdgeWorks 8 лет назад
+TheFiendRacer The Nakamura does fit MY hand better than the mini-grip...BUT...if it has very similar dimensions to the mini-griptilian. I would consider something else if I were you. Maybe one of the new full-sized Griptilians that just came out using G10 handles?

cool thx for the tip bro. i might just get something else i wish they made this nakamura like an inch bigger overall, that would be perfect for me

How does M390 compare to CPM-S90V?
@CuttingEdgeWorks
@CuttingEdgeWorks 8 лет назад
+PerceptionVsReality Both are outstanding. M390 is a little easier to sharpen and is generally one of my preferred blade steels. For blades that I know will not be hard-used and only intended for light to medium EDC tasks, S90V or S110V are ideal for me. I have a lot of practice sharpening difficult steels, so I wouldn't necessarily recommend it for everyone. Both M390 and S90V are great steels, but if I had to recommend one or the other for everyone in general, I'd go with M390/204P/20CV.

this looks really GOOD. I thought the 940-1 was pretty nice looking but i was really disappointed with some things about it like the gross screws showing on the inside of the liners. This looks much better. I can see myself going for one of these for sure. Does it looks like the thumb studs are any smaller on this one? I know some people were saying that the original would sometimes snag against your pants when you were taking it out of your pocket.
@CuttingEdgeWorks

+Andre Vautour Same size studs unfortunately. Probably the only design flaw with this knife that I can see.

How is the thumb studs attached to the blade on the Nakamura? screws? Thanks!
@CuttingEdgeWorks
@CuttingEdgeWorks 8 лет назад
Decent. A little too long in my opinion...but they work fine. Can get caught on your pocket sometimes. But that only seems to help open the blade.
@Mrplacedcookie
@Mrplacedcookie 8 лет назад
Thanks! my concern as well. Is the studs screwed to the blade or are they press fitted? Love the model!
@monarchco
@monarchco 8 лет назад
The studs are a modified "screw" They have a hex-fitting in the hole, & they screw together. in the end, because of how the hex-fitting was made, it looks press fitted(barely visible), but offers the stability of screw.
@Mrplacedcookie
@Mrplacedcookie 8 лет назад
+Monarchco Thanks! Was thinking of the possibility to change out the studs. :)

Quick question! This on or the 940-1? Which do you like better? I want the 943 because of the blade shape but man this one and the 940-1 look sick! Awesome vid man thanks a bunch!!

Why the hell doesn't Benchmade Loctite their fucking pivots? I picked up a Model 51, and even that had no blue 242. I put it on the pivots, flipped it awhile, then had a zen-pin screw go flying, which I couldn't find for a week. I ended up Loctiting every screw on it. It was the same with the Contego and Adamas, which both loosened after a month or two, and required fastener. I'm not impressed with Benchmade's quality control; I like some of their designs and choices in material, but centering is off as much as it's on, and fit-and-finish in general is inconsistent. It's too bad, because the S90V, CF, and blue-anodized standoffs is a great package.

How does this knife compare to the Spyderco Manix 2 gen 2 on overall toughness? We all know the Manix 2 is built like a tank!
@CuttingEdgeWorks
@CuttingEdgeWorks 9 лет назад
Archangel I feel they'd both hold up very well under hard use, but personally if I was going to hard-use one, I go with the Manix 2. It will give you better traction, it' a little bigger, a little lighter and less expensive. I personally think the Nakamura is a little more refined and is more of a very functional gentleman's folder.
