The book is impossible to directly adapt, and it'd be illegal in most countries if it was actually properly adapted. It's one of those idiosyncratic works of art that can only inspire but can't be transfered to other artforms.

There is also a lot of Body Horror in the book and you cannot imagine a better guy than Cronenberg to bring these disturbing images to the big screen.
