Just when you think there might be no more to see of these green and white side loaders from northern NSW, I pull this video out of my hat! I attended the Coffs waste conference back in May 2013 and naturally had to video a few collection trucks along the way. After leaving Coffs Harbour early on the Thursday morning, I stopped by the town of Macksville which falls under Nambucca Shire (or Nambucca Valley as it's known today) and came across unit C33 doing the weekly organics service. Eventually recycler C37 showed up which you get a brief look at too, and I would’ve captured something further of this truck had it not blown a hydraulic hose in the cul-de-sac both side loaders turned into together. If you watch through, you’ll also pick the very moment a big dog scared the living daylights out of me haha
Coffs Coast Waste Services is a regional partnership between Coffs Harbour, Bellingen and Nambucca councils, while Handybin Waste Services is the local contractor for the entire job. The regular 3-bin-system was introduced to the area in 2005, with 2007 seeing the transition to the weekly FOGO and fortnightly garbage method remaining in place today. A good dozen side arm vehicles were put to work, with about 6 big body trucks and another 6 smaller body ones including a mini single axle. Just like the former SMS Willoughby fleet, the company went for Superior Pak bodies and low entry cab ACCOs. A new contract commenced in 2018 and saw the replacement of the original fleet with Bucher/Iveco side loaders. Handybin also does the kerbside clean-ups and public litter bin emptying, plus has a big waste and recycling service offering to the C&I sector across the Coffs Coast.
