I haven't watched that part of One Piece in a long time, and when I did it was English, so as soon as the lyrics started, I thought my initial guess was wrong.
Holy shit this was INTENSE. You could see Jay battling all sorts of emotions that it almost seems like his appearance was slowly changing and Sung-Won was trying to hold on to his lead at the end. My god this one had me on the edge of my seat
I was thinking the same thing they have done the opening, they have done the ending now what's next that only leaves osts, there are a lot of famous ost that I honestly just listen to more than anime openings sometimes, so that would be interesting to see and also probably really difficult, they might guess the famous ones though.
Man, even pitched I recognised Last Train Home so fast. I was willing either SungWon or Jay to get that, like JJBA just uses songs released in the West, you can do this one!!
I haven't seen Jojo but I recognized that song in a heartbeat because it's one of my dad's favorite songs, and the band is one of his favorite bands; it threw me for such a loop to hear it here of all places 0_0
lol that could be really amusing with how challenging it could be in some cases. Take Jouji Nakata in just Type Moon related works for instance: Kirei in F/SN, King Hassan in FGO, and Neko-Arc Chaos in Carnival Phantasm. All of them, imo, sound fairly similar and have similar vibes, and Jay and Sungwon might have to figure out which exact character based on context and however much they understand spoken Japanese.
I feel like that'd be TOO hard, because then they'd have to pinpoint which character the voice actor is voicing, like imagine hearing a tomokazu sugita line and having to figure out which character he's doing
I haven't seen JoJo, but I love Pat Metheny. I was so happy when I realized who it was (pitch shift threw me for a loop of "this sounds really familiar, but is very wrong")
as someone who listens to the utena ost on a daily basis i was so disappointed god. ALSO they should have done virtual star embryology the superior ending
I think it being the English version threw them off. They seemed like they were about to have the lightbulb moment, but as soon as it was that voice instead the lightbulb shattered.
Watching these two go from a look of utter confusion to a full-blown flashback-laden unlocking of memories in an instant is Easily my favourite thing about these videos, it always makes me smile
I love that, for all of the trash-talking and playing around, there is a lot of fair play. People admit it if the other person one, will call out a tie if they feel it's a tie, and they don't ask Anne Marie to bend the rules. It does make it funner that they're playing fair and square.
it's fucking wild that i somehow recognized last train home even with the pitch shift. god what a good song. edit: also these videos are fantastic and i really really hope you do similar videos because god this is fun
Again there is nothing better than naming an anime opening or ending before these two. Just getting one alone made me feel Superior before ultimately getting steamrolled with the others.🤣🤣
Same, like i instantly recognized Homework never ends from Yu Yu Hakasuo because it’s so fucking good, also i instantly got the One Piece, outro in this video.
I don’t even watch or know anime but these videos are insta-click for me. Love the chemistry between these people, and the laughs. And the music is fun to listen to also
I like how one of them in any of these episodes just dances to the beat of the song sometimes, like their way of saying "Hey I don't know this, but the beat is catchy!"
I sent in both Life is Like a Boat and Magia!! Glad to see such funny reactions when they were played. This is so tough tho. I couldnt personally name most of them, kudos to Jay and SungWon for suffering on our behalf
Shissou, my absolute favorite ending ever. I was devastated after Ouran’s episode 12 when they changed to the next one. Also, the blue exorcist ending they hate because they don’t know it, is so good.
Learning just now the Evangelion ends with a cover of "Fly me to the Moon" (Of all things) has explained a like 12 year old gag in YuGiOh abridged for me. One of those random epiphanies. Another one is that for someone who watches basically NO anime, I sure do watch a lot of videos about anime.
In playing along with these, I have a big disadvantage in not watching a lot of anime but a really big advantage in knowing the ones I have seen backwards and forwards (e.g. the drums of Tenshi Gaeshi being enough to identify it, Nico Touches The Walls is best band)
This and the name the OP series are some of my fave content you’ve done, not sure what else you can do in that vein but these are excellent and Jay and Anne Marie are great as well.
Honestly I watch a fair amount of anime but they always get the songs way faster even for the ones I know... which is why it was personally very satisfying for me when they took so long to get Death Parade. I knew that one in an instant. Love that show so much.
I really wish we could see Anne Marie's face when Sung Won guessed Ouran High School because it seemed like he instantly knew he was right just by looking at her. Edit: I just realized she could have just been nodding.
