Great Video, but wish it hadn't taken years before they had this or any classes/groups in Solano County. Yolo County has a lot to offer for those who have loved ones with mental illness, thankfully. But not Solano County. They rake in a lot of dough from donations of people who want to help and pay their directors very well; but it would be a great service if they offered real help in Solano County. It would be great if they offered classes/groups for the mentally ill and their families, there are currently only ones for families. Thank you for listening, I hope.
Is there a program for spouses/ partners? I worked as a half professional social worker so I know a lot but not enough about mental illness. I did food stamp eligibility for years and MEDICAL disability at a hospital coordinating with medicaid and SSA.
What is available for me to help with my adult son, homeless or couch surfing with no family near him? He needs aid in financial, medical, vision, dental and especially mental health treatment now. Who can help expedite SSI/SSD so he isn't doing without this aid for a couple of years going through denial-appeal-repeat-repeat??
I would recommend taking the NAMI class "Family to Family" which focuses on the needs of adult children and loved ones. Your local affiliate can also help you connect to a family support group with practical suggestions for your immediate concerns. Hugs!
So after you 'take the course', then what? What kind of concrete help does nami provide? Respite? How does one attend these groups with a mentally ill child who cant be left with just any babysitter?
Everyone who works with a person would benefit from these classes. There is new information about helping others every day. Yes this really needs a family to take this class.
